Yankees: CC Sabathia (L): (126.2 IP, 3.91 ERA, 2.5 RA-9 WAR) vs. Rays: Jake Odorizzi (R): (123.2 IP, 4.58 ERA, 0.7 RA-9 WAR)

Lineups

So fWAR says this Yankee lineup is 13 wins better than this Rays lineup.  And yet, the Yankees have only six more wins.  That’s annoying.

6 more wins and 8 less losses = 14.
I’m an actuary! You can’t argue with that math.

Gotta play headley over Frazier, no?

Headley has been hot in the second-half (before his 1-6 yesterday), .326/.392/.535 (144 wRC+), so yeah.

And yet, the Yankees have only six more wins.  That’s annoying.

I blame it all on Bird’s -0.9.

[1] I think Headley is ahead of Frazier in the depth chart, it’s just about mixing and matching between Holliday, Headley, Frazier and Bird so everyone gets at-bats AND rest.

When the OTHER Frazier comes back, it’s going to be nucking futs trying to find at-bats for everybody.

But yes, in the Wild Card game, Headley better be there over Frazier.

Clint has been activated.

Other Frazier is active for tonight’s game.

Anyone know if the visiting team still gets a percentage of the gate, or has that all been upended by revenue sharing? Do the Mets get any cut of this?

Much rather see Austin get those ABs, Clint was hitting 140 in his last 42 ABs as if the pitchers figured out how to approach him.  Since his injury he hit 118 for Trenton in the playoffs.

Congrats to Odorizzi on his no-hitter.

So Nick Johns… uhhh…. Greg Bird is hurt again?

Offense back to normalcy.

With Bird out why isn’t Headley playing against the RHP?

Jacoby’s secret weapon.

This has to be close to some sort of record. Five baserunners in 3.2 IP - 83 pitches.

If Tyler Austin keeps it up, he’s going to die of cheek cancer before he reaches third base.

Would it shock anyone if this is the only inning in which they score?

Wait, Judge struck out?

[18] No more than it will when Danny Espinosa hits a 3-R HR to make it 5-4 in the 6th

May not have to wait until the 6th

[20] that AB right there is why Joe will let CC face Espinosa in the 6th…even though he’ll have allowed a screaming double to Puello in the inning and will clearly be gassed

[16]  How do you know about Todd-AO?

23 I’m of a certain age, I remember when that was the new big thing.

CC only good for 4 1/3 and DRob in in the 5th.  This pen’s gonna be burnt out soon and why did Binder use Green yesterday with a 7 run lead.  Binder needs to trust someone else.

Longoria was up (8 career HR vs CC) and CC had been losing it. Bringing in Robertson there was the correct move.

when’s the last time gardner had a HR or SB? May 31?

Just in. [15] and [17] are interesting… what did that mean?

Interesting pitch distribution to Judge here

What was Gardner complaining about?

Leiter really surprised that Castro gives away ABs?

[28] He looks like Johnny Mize in that old Red Man ad. Except with six times more tobacco.

BAA of .141 and an ERA over 3.00.

So far I have been wrong twice - questioning why Frazier is playing and why Girardo never takes out CC early. However, using Drob for 2.2 on Sept 11 after using Green for 2+ with a 7 run lead seems like he is choking under the pressure of a pennant race.

let’s fall way behind Cesar Puello, shall we?

whatever happened to throwing the ball right down the fucking middle against the mook who’s hitting .105?

Hopefully the mound visit is to remind him to stop sucking.

Was that last out a HR in YS?

Why did they decide to do this instead of flipping the two series?  Is there a chance Tampa won’t play any more home games?

The google tells me the Rays are expected to play at home this weekend, but I guess no one knew what was going to happen when the games were rescheduled to Citi.

For all the griping we do, Robertson is being deployed smartly by Girardi. Their best reliever pitches the highest leverage situations.

42 Green yesterday and Thursday?

Tribe has increased their differential to 218 during this stretch. Buddy of mine pointed out that they’re a -500 favorite tomorrow with Kluber going, which neither of us could remember anyone being that big a fave in baseball. That’s absurd. That’s like a lopsided boxing match. Floyd was -450 at some books for McGregor.

[45] Sounds like the gambler’s fallacy to me.

It’s very hard to win 20 in a row.  Only 2 teams have done it in recent years so Detroit is like a sure thing despite Kluber. Take the odds.

[47] Definitely the gambler’s fallacy.
