Duffy’s a young lefty who throws gas (average FB of 93.4 mph). As you’d expect, he’s been a bit tougher on lefties thus far in his career (.269/.348/.436 vs. LHB, .295/.378/.509 vs. RHB). Although his seasonal line is a bit underwhelming he’s given the Royals quality starts in six of his 15 career starts and has allowed three runs or fewer in 12 of his 15 starts.
FWIW, Duffy’s worst start of the year came against Boston in Fenway, where he lasted just 3.2 innings and allowed 6 hits, 3 walks, and 6 runs.
Why do I have a feeling he’ll be much better tonight?
Interesting fact about the Royals, their strikeout rate as a team of 16.1% per PA is lower than 11 of the 14 teams in the AL. Their walk rate of 7.7% is middle of the pack. I only mention this because I’m hoping Nova gets back to striking out more hitters than he walks, and with the Royals that’s not necessarily a given.
Comments
HTF do you walk Yuniesky Betancourt when he’s trying to give you a free out?
Dammit Teix.
Hey lads.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdB3msFJWyM

[103] Holy shit! welcome back!
Yay, thurm’s back!
Does anyone else think Logan has earned official 6th inning guy status? Why waste him vs. lefties when he can automatically pitch the 6th?
as i was typing that thing about not worrying about nova i knew it was ill advised, i knew i was jinxing him. Then i remembered that I’m a rational, not to mention insouciant devil and I went ahead with it.
Poor decision.
[104] Baltic Thunder!
Holy effin’ pelican beaks, thurm returns.
Who’s Therm? When he drinks too much single malt does he go Therm O Nuclear?

From closer to 7th inning guy in 9 months. Solid career progression there Soriano. Please opt out.
Did everyone else listening to the radio just laugh as hard as I did?
[109] Nope. He just kneels before the Sori and strokes the molasses badger.
Dammit, Francouer. A little lower next time.

Is this ump just deciding whether a pitch is a ball or strike before it’s thrown?
David Robertson is pretty badass.
This is kind of the game I was hoping Burnett would have yesterday.

Robertson is a scary scary man.
Some insurance runs would be nice.
OTF, you are very welcome.
Is this ump just deciding whether a pitch is a ball or strike before it’s thrown?
Yeah, one of those pitches last inning caught more than enough of the plate. Just looked it up and Kerwin Danley ranks in the bottom 25% of umpires in correct call percentage.
115. Yes he is. Bromance indeed. Schteeeeve are ya there?
i think many of you are aware of my ahem, feelings towards Robertson…but all silliness aside, he’s just the funnest Yankee. Kinda came out of nowhere, didn’t have huge expectations, has gotten better as he’s played more and in higher leverage. Seems like a good dude, and seems to lock in when the stakes are highest.
What’s not to like?
[105] Does that make Wade the panic-button-A.J.-induced 5th inning guy?
Maybe Noesi can pitch the 4th.

[122] I’m still working on that metric I mentioned last week, and before I gave up on it in regards to RP, Robertson had the 2nd best rate of players I plugged in to Uehara.
[126] Who had the best? Was it PapelBard, the two-headed Best Evah ReliefMonster?

[126] Uehara, Papelbon was 3rd or 4th.
KC busting out Seek and Destroy for Mo? Keeping it on a Metallica tip. Solid.
Has to be Al Albuquerque.

[129] Albuquerque did OK, but he walks like 6 per 9. Makes Roberston look like a control pitcher.
No one tell Mo that he suppose to suck now.

WWWMW seems to be in the rear view mirror.
Maybe Mo can keep his job for a bit longer.
95 on that last pitch?
I’m enjoying WRWMW significantly more.
Nice to see Mo is totally cooked. Should have held on to Kyle.
My broadcast of the game just got cut off for Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader. For the people working the WCTX crew, I can answer for them quite certainly ‘No’.
Now its back and I missed that last strikeout. But all they are showing is the fountains out in centerfield….excellent work, guys.
[127] Duh. I read your comment as meaning your evaluation system was named Uehara.
The Phils still haven’t allowed their 400th run. Filthnasty.

The local fox channel hasn’t figured out how to correctly convert their broadcast to between widescreen and “full screen” so I lose about 30% of the picture every time I have to watch a game on FOX. Unfortunately I still get 100% of the sound.

[138] No, I just suck at typing. Uehara has been sneaky good. BB rate is pretty amazing.

I’ll have a premliminary version with all SP over 50 IP ready at the end of the week hopefully. From there I plan on adding in park and league adjustments. You guys can take a look, tell me what you think and give suggestions on how I can fix it to work for relievers as well.
I’ve tried to balance concepts I like between the simplicity and results based RA and underlying performance indicators used for FIP and DIPS metrics.
[142] - Did you bake in the necessary Yankee bias?

[143] Naturally.
[103] *happy*
