I still hate the idea of leading off with your best power hitter. Particularly when the 7-8-9 in your lineup had a collective OBP in the .300 range.
The only question I have about tonight’s game is this. In what inning Phil Hughes’s ERA will become higher than Rick Porcello’s? Being an optimist, I am going to say it happens in the second inning, not the first.
Comments
Sorry to do this to you guys..but here comes the revised and updated edition!
Three B’s now debris. TSBG to be amputee, Pineda recovery no guarantee. GOAT out with a knee. Former MVP can’t hit off tee, Andy soon a retiree. Cano and Grandy require rupees, Ichi and McGehee provide minimal glee. Need marquee spree ASAP…Melky+Greinke under Xmas tree? Hopefully!
Nova barely ST invitee. Already 16 DPs for Captain 6-4-3. Hughes is bad says FIP, Kuroda returning home across the sea. Can’t help but expect more from CC, and don’t get me started on Teix’s OBP…
I foresee: ALDS and out in 3.
You unemployed these days?
[1] Can’t help but think you could find a way to work in the two-dubbya-cee in there somewhere.
Hey ! That rhymed !! I’m a poet, too !
Wait, no it didn’t. Shit.
Wait, all these games have been counting? I thought this was part of the Olympics and thus meaningless.
Battle of the disappointing former top prospects tonight, fun. Porcello is still only 23(!) so I guess he’s less of a disappointment.
Who works the count better than Grandy?
Ibanez.
It would also be funny if opposing fielders went around the horn to get Jeter out even with no one on.
A fine beginning.
I’m annoyed that Time Warner has not put the current Breaking Bad up on on demand yet. Was looking forward to missing the first 45 minutes and then checking the score of the mismatch to be.
From what we saw in the 1st inning, it’s obvious this is going to be a Tiger rout.
not a home run!
Once again, 0-2 and can’t put him away.
Another great AB by Kurtis!
Tigers broadcast just said batting Grandy leadoff was a good idea because he can give you a one-run lead in the first inning.
Ichiro as bad or worse then we feared.
Did you guys know his full name is Curtis Mayfield Granderson? It’s like this team was assembled by Mel Hall.
[9] meh, it’s One of those “very special” ones, Jesse gets inspired and goes back to school to be a chemistry teacher. Walt’s family gives him a birthday hug and they go to Disneyland. Hank gets first place in a local homebrew contest and learns a very important lesson about sharing.
Or maybe not.
Is Verlander still pitching.
Cano is buckin’ for Captaincy.
This team is special when it comes to double plays. Just special.
Did Grandee always strike out at this rate?
Chavez! Not a DP!
So, the question is, will it take Hughes more than 2 batters to give the lead back?
[21] Career K%: 22.6%; 2012: 27.8%; 2011: 24.5%.
Great. Now Swisher hurt.
that’s a home run.
I was just about to ask how many he’d hit?
They have yet to conceive a stadium that could contain Phil.
Why does Flaherty do more games then any of the other far superior guys.
Lead reversal in 5…4…3…2…
not a home run!
Impossible not to hate Flaherty. He is so obvious, always says the same things about how backup players need that big hit and mentions all the intangibles he can.
[32] He’s proud of his fastball
Hughes just can’t finish off batters. Its almost like the hitter has the edge 1-2
Hughes has not thrown a changeup this inning.

Answer: Yes.
Wait, what question are we answering ?
Exciting first set ladies beach volleyball. This game not so much. Kerri and Misty make the big plays. Yankees not so much. Impressive inning team. Where are the Mariners when we really need them like always.
Can’t be worried about the Orioles. But the Rays and Red Sox are a big threat now. The Rays with Longoria and the Sox with their complete lineup are going to be better teams than the Yankees. This team needs to win at least 93 games and it doesn’t seem likely right now
Hughes should be pulled right now. He has nothing left
and by the way, it was more than obvious that the rotation wasn’t going to keep being elite.
PULL HUGHES NOW, JOE!!!!
[42] Too late.
JOE GIRARDI SUDDENLY IS A STUPID MAN, VERY STUPID NOW.
Like that he pulls Hughes early, but left Nova in forever yesterday.
This team looks done. Thank you Cashman for being a fucking idiot for the last 3 years and destroying a championship team the way you did.
[45] Hughes pitch count today: 102. That’s an early pull. Nova pitch count yesterday: 68. He was left in forever.
Wha ??
Well, you could argue that he learned his lesson from yesterday.
How he let Hughes face Cabrera? He had nothing and Cabrera owns him. Girardi is partly responsible for this team bad play lately
[48] You could. You could also argue he’s using a Magic Eight Ball.
I personally argue that he’s hell bent on getting 6 full innings, even when the pitcher is struggling. Someone should have realized that throwing 40 pitches the previous inning was not a good sign, either of his current performance, or his prospects going forward that night.
Hughes is such a tease. I use to think we were choking but its more that we simply epitomize mediocrity and Ichiro fits right in nicely.
TEX and SEA doing their part for us tonite. With TOR in TAM someone’s gaining on us either way, so that’s a meteor situation, especially with the game played in the Trop.
I use to think we were choking but its more that we simply epitomize overpaid and fragile, worn-out former stars declining to mediocrity and Ichiro fits right in nicely.
Fixed.
Binder’s been bad since the left coast where he jumped the shark a few times.
53 sharp correction Pin
[54] Are we sure somebody didn’t swap that Binder at the luggage carousel in Oakland as part of some sort of Oceans 14 type of manouver ?
Remember when we used to fall 2 runs behind and still feel like the game was winnable and worth watching ?
I miss those days.
56 Hmmm Matt Damon is a townie fan and the new Bourne (original Bourne free) is out and Damon was unavailable so that’s what he’s been up to.
I am going to take comfort tonight in the fact that this won’t be a 1-run loss. And also a box of cheap red wine.
Great!!!! Let Eppley face 2 lefties in a row and allow a run. Eppley ucks against lefties and you have Rapada available to face them. If you don’t want to use Rapada then use a RHP who is not a fucking ROOGY.
0 for the season trailing after 8
[58] For no good reason, I watched “Taps” on Netflix a few nights back, and in looking up film details on IMDB I gleefully discovered that the role’s of the kids who start the fight outside the gate are officially “Townies”.
Ichiro!
And now all the stupid decisions Girardi made seems LARGE!
Fuck Girardi. Why does he let Eppley face 2 lefties in a row? Why did he let Hughes face Cabrera?
The Yankees have not walked this game. I am about tu jump out of the window!
Eppley ruined the one run loss (all there is to look forward to)
You also have to look forward to Balitmore finishing off their comeback. Fucking Mariners.
Holy old school! Kay and Paulie bitching about the grinning Robbie. Never thought it would be articulated anywhere but here.
I guess it’s Flash now. I just turned the game on.
Missed it. Why was Cano grinning. What did they say? I love Petiites attitude on the mound. Intense, focused and constantly on himself to do better. Cano could use a little of that.
[68] And the Devil Ray game ended without a meteor strike. Today is going to be a disappointment on all fronts.
Chamberlain has been a fine replacement for Qualls.
Can Phelps pitch every inning?
Who is this Dirks character?
Flash never cracked a grin in his life. I find him dreary as a broadcaster.
“This has been a very frustrating season” doesn’t quite do justice to my conflicted feelings, but it’s as close as I’m going to be able to get.
Flash, the plan is SECRET.
How is it that a runner on 2nd can run all the way to home plate on a 1-base play ? I mean, singles are just that. And yet they keep going ahead and running all the way past 3rd base and cheat their way into scoring a run.
I’m holding out hope that this bunch can follow the 2000 Yankees model of winning less than 90 but finding a way to scrape it together in the playoffs.
Every pitch Joba threw above 90 that inning was a ball, In play (no out), or In play (runs). All the out pitches were in the 80’s.
Welcome back, Joba. Great stuff.
What a shit show. Makes me even more pissed about passing on Darvish et. al. and all this cockamamie talk about tightening the budget and getting players cheap.
They’re cheap because they suck. Go out and spend some fucking money.
I missed this game, fortunately. This pack of losers are a bunch of losers.
US asking for a replay on balance beam
Any chance of not getting swept?
Goddamn shame we didn’t have Chavez starting 10 years ago and he wasn’t so fragile. Would have made a helluva Yankee and prevented some godawful mistakes.
Did anyone every say a damned word on how “hitting one hundred” Joba walked in the door with a max velo of 93?
100!
One single word?
The Yankees did not draw a walk today. They are not being patient, not having good at bats.
[84] Seems like I carped about it his first or second appearance.
I was prepared to suspend my Joba hatred. Silly me.
[82] No.
There’s a walk. Time for a Suzuki slap single to load the bases.
Have to admire them for retaining the gumption to tease.
Wait this isn’t over yet?
Whatever.
So Chavez breaks the unwritten code, and scores all the way from second on a single.
Someone’s getting plunked for that.
Oh for the love of Farnsworth they held him at third
Wow. Big-time teasation.
It so frustrating that they are going to end up losing this one.
How did Chavez not get hurt on that play?
I guess it would get tired if I asked that about every play (whether or not it involved Chavez).
1 run loss restored.
What a CT.
poop
I am so fucking sick of Kurtis.
