Yankees (62-35) @ Indians (41-56), Monday, July 26, 2010, 7:05pm **Game Chatter**

NYY: Javier Vazquez (34, RHP, 8-7, 4.68) vs. CLE: Jake Westbrook (32, RHP, 6-6, 4.74)

Lineups
NY Yankees

Mark Teixeira, 1B (.264/.375/.488)

Robinson Cano, 2B (.332/.388/.560)
Jorge Posada, DH (.268/.376/.496)
Curtis Granderson, CF (.244/.315/.419)
Francisco Cervelli, C (.269/.344/.339)
Brett Gardner, LF (.298/.393/.401)

Cleveland
Michael Brantley, CF (.162/.229/.212)
Asdrubal Cabrera, SS (.280/.315/.357)
Shin-Soo Choo, RF (.292/.393/.481)
Carlos Santana, C (.270/.418/.516)
Travis Hafner, DH (.262/.365/.418)
Jhonny Peralta, 3B (.248/.310/.391)
Matt LaPorta, 1B (.254/.326/.381)
Trevor Crowe, LF (.262/.318/.365)
Jason Donald, 2B (.270/.324/.425)

Seeing Rodriguez in the lineup makes me feel happy.  Can Teix get his SLG over .500 tonight?  Can the Yankees not do something stupid like trading Jesus Montero?

Joe Girardi just announced that Sergio Mitre will move back to the bullpen. Dustin Moseley will fill that spot on the rotation.

Girardi said he thinks Mitre, because of the injury, is better prepared to pitch out of the bullpen rather than the rotation at this point.

Uh Oh Sergio

The Mighty Mitre has struck out.

When this series is over, who will have a higher OPS, Jeter or Granderson?

A bit annoying that the guy with the best OBP in the lineup is batting 9th.

[1] I don’t understand this, what does Moseley have to offer over Nova or even Phelps?

Re: 4

Not being a prospect?

By the way, I’m all aboard the Nova bandwagon.

[4] Veteran-ness?

Edit: I didn’t see [5] when I hit submit.

4-He must be good because Beane is an extremely bad judge of ability

[5] Seriously, what about Moseley’s history (both in general and this year) suggests that he represents a better option than Nova? Nova might not be good but at least he’s sort of unknown. We know that Moseley has been mediocre at best in his ML career and pretty damn mediocre this year in AAA.

poor Danny Haren!  forced to face the Red Sox and their Ace of Aces™ today—a cruel welcome to the American League….

did we reach any conclusions about Joba or did it all just fade due to boredom and quiet despair?

[10] His xFIP is 3.5!

Also, he sucks.

take your pick.

[10] “did we reach any conclusions about Joba or did it all just fade due to boredom and quiet despair? “

He’s too bad to keep and too good to trade.

Joba answered and said,
How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?

Jake Westbrook is a guy I wouldn’t mind the Yankees getting in a pure salary dump (i.e. < B- prospect).

On a serious note, am I the only one who cheers on the inside whenever Jeter doesn’t swing at the first pitch of the game?  I mean, I know he’s grounding out to SS or 2B, but at least see more than one pitch per PA

What’s the over/under on the next Jeter contract now?  2/30 is looking very generous.

Sinker ball pitcher + Jeter = many dead worms.

[5] Nova bandwagon? How many people are on that three, four? Does the editor-in-chief count for two?

[10] Not sure, but some great photos of Oscar Gamble were posted a thread or two ago. Here ya go:

1976ToppsTradedGamble.jpg

damn, Jeter is currently being outSLUGGED by TSBG…..

Re: 18

Tons of groundballs? Decent walk rate? Fastball up to 97? Count me in.

19—ah, yes, a classic!  Underrated player, OG….

Oscar today, and yesterday.

alg_gamble.jpg

I think they’re going with Moseley/Mitre over Nova b/c they expect Pettitte back soon.  The chirping sounds like he’s only a couple/three weeks away.

No need to jerk around a real prospect.

so to summarize:  underrated player, repping the ‘fro, and better against lefties than Curtis Granderson….

With how anxious the keep saying BattleCat is to get back out on the mound, I am becoming more and more convinced he will be back for 2011.

I am pretty sure that HR bounced off some guy’s skull out there in RF.

Javy and Hughes got the HR fever, does Eiland got the cure?

“With how anxious the keep saying BattleCat is to get back out on the mound, I am becoming more and more convinced he will be back for 2011. “

I agree.  The old war horse always wants to answer the bugle.

He’s got to start thinking about the HoF.  He’s the perfect 4th SP for the Yankees (even though every year he ends up #2 or #3); quality 180 IP+ and no long-term commitment.

No reason for him to step away as long as he’s this good.

[28] Does Eiland have a cowbell?

Granderson strikes out a lot, huh.  And looks awful doing it.

Too early to congratulate Westbrook on his perfect game?

Congrats to Jake Westbrook on his first career perfect game and to the Indians on obtaining Jesus Montero in a trade for him!

Is Joe Gordon the answer to the trivia question?

Consistant.

Looks like he’s trying to hit those grounders now.

Swish!!

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by Swisher’s goodness this year.

[34] I think the answer is Clu Haywood.

[36] It’s actually a much greater accomplishment to ground a ball exactly at the same player over and over than to get on base. Jeter is simply bored.

Good thing there’s a 5th umpire in the booth that can see the replay right away and…aw eff it.

They should have called that a base hit purely on the fact that Trevor Crowe is a horrid fielder.

for those of us with Gameday, was that a catch against Alex or a trap?

[43] - More like an extremely short short-hop.

Edit:  It wasn’t 100% obvious that the ball hit grass, but it most likely did.

That was a cannon from Choo.

That throw was insane.

Great play by Choo, shitty running by Granderson or is it all Posada’s fault?

Granderson wasn’t comfortable with the whole getting-on-base thing.

Ok so he was safe. Nice calls from the umpires tonight.

On the A-Rod hit/out - it was obvious that the ball bounced - what wasn’t obvious was if it bounced from the tip of his glove to the back of his glove or did it bounce from the field to the back of his glove.

Granderson was safe.

Umpiring is fun.

How does the umpire miss that call at second? He was staring right at it!!

Granderson MIGHT have had a small case of not automatically hustling, figuring it was out. If so, not cool, Curtis!

That’s 3 outs in 2 innings the umps have given away.  That’s kind of a lot.

good Javy.

That’s the way you field your position.

I would have expected Brantley to bunt there.

Wow amazed he scored on that.

This third out is taking forever. I feel like Jeff Nelson is pitching.

First Susyn complains that the Indian drumming dude ain’t there, and how it reminds her of the Indians; now that the drumming starts, she complains about the noise level. All that complaining, she must be a lurker here.

Come on offense.

All in all, two runs in six innings, with enough pitches left over to throw the seventh (and maybe even the eighth) is pretty darn good.

Now if only A-Rod can hit 600 in the seventh.

I will accept an RBI triple by A-Rod, as well.

BC, that Major League revealed thing was pretty interesting. Might have been a weird storyline shift, but it could have worked. Plug away again, if you feel like it.

Does anyone else hate the IO TV ad?

I want to punch all of those actors in the face.

Thanks, vil, don’t mind if I do! smile

Here is the legend (Indians-related, so oooh…topical!)

Man, A-Rod needs that home run so he will stop pressing so much.

Holy shit, Scherzer and Garza are both, you know, pitching well against each other!

Does anyone else hate the IO TV ad?

Show off.

(Indians-related, so oooh…topical!)

That’s part of it too. Been awhile since the Indians were a playoff threat, it seems.

WOEtastic.

Not a good offensive showing by the heart of the lineup that inning.

Two men on in the bottom of the sixth for Tampa - a walk and catcher’s interference and now 3-1 on Longoria (one out).

Walked the bases loaded and MLB Tonight is going AWAY from the action? Gah?

It would be great to hold them to 2 runs here.  MIH.

Vasquez is a big fan of using lots of pitches to get the third out of these last few innings.

Scherzer K’s Pena.

Yeah, right, TVH? So weird.

Phew.  That was painful to watch.

Come on offense.

Really, Scherezer? Really? A GRANNY? Really?

How often does a pitcher lose a no hitter on a GS?

Hey its a hit!

The no named battle orphan did pretty well didn’t he?

Westbrook has been mediocre this season, but WOE don’t care.

I think Grandy’s woken up for good.

Wait….what just happened?

I’ve always liked him.

Where has this Granderson been all year?

The Grandy…...........well he can.

Curtis wants to know how many games we have left against the AL Central.

I like this version of Granderson.

[85] Vs. RHP anyway.

Picked the right time to start watching!

Also, what’s with the trade rumours?  Is there some idea that any trade must include losing Montero?  And no one even wants him?  What gives with that?

[93] Strange indeed that no one seems to want Montero. For Lee, I can see it, no one else available is worth it.

Hey, was that Captain Groundball?

Shocking outcome to that Jeter AB.
I’m now convinced Mike Gallego is inhabiting Derek Jeter’s body.

“Also, what’s with the trade rumours?  Is there some idea that any trade must include losing Montero?  And no one even wants him?  What gives with that? “

I know.  I’m expecting to hear the “Blue Jays reject offer of Jesus Montero for Scott Downs” any day now.

That’s nearly four dingers in two games for Granderson. Wow.

I enjoy this MLB Trade Rumors headline: “Yankees trying to trade Chan Ho Park”

It is the same as: “TVH trying to have sex with Scarlett Johansson”
