Well, last night was not a good start to the series. I had to watch it in a bar with a bunch of Met fans (including my brother). My father (also a Met fan) even called me twice (once after Davis’ “home run” to gloat and once after the next two batters got hits to tell me that Pettitte should retire). With R.A. Dickey looming in the finale of the series, this is a big game.
Comments

The Yankees will win today, and win tomorrow.
Doesn’t it seem like Chris Young has been around forever? And yet he is only 33.
n Pittsburgh’s 4-1 win in the series opener vs. the Tigers, Burnett won his seventh consecutive start, allowing two hits in his six innings. The right-hander is the first Pirates pitcher to capture wins in seven straight starts since Dock Ellis won eight in a row in 1974.
[3] and shortly thereafter, in 1976, he was picked up by the Yankees.
Is that what you’re trying to tell us, bebop?
Because I have something to say to that.
I can’t wait until interleague is over if only to keep Miami from playing the other AL East teams anymore (of course the Yankees don’t play them at all - figures).
I miss Harold Reynolds. Brandon Phillips deserves a Gold Glove because he throws the ball through his legs and hits home runs.
[5] Didn’t we open the season in Miami and get beat ?
Yay, Jeter stole a base and became… a RISP.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand… here’s Mr. Robinson!
Correction, please.
Jeter should be fined for that. Baseball 101.
According to GD, Cano lives up and away.
Which is where Young is pounding him.
Of course, GD could be full of Trout. The zones could be measured by The Scout.
Thanks to MLB’s exclusive blackouts of 5 games at the same time on one channel in one national audience, I’m getting the A’s and Giants.
I may just drunkblog High Plains Drifter for anyone who’s interested.
Oooooh, the 3 hombres just killed Morgan and got a bunch of TNT dropped on ‘em by Clint. He shot the creepy dude’s ear off, too !
Clint was a badass, back in the day.
Creating RISP in front of Arod and 145 effing RISP Robbie is monumentally stupid. I dont believe Robbie’s results are random. He’s got full blown RISP yips.
How long until we trade for Jordany Valdespin ? And what would Joe call him ?
Jordany-ey ?
Ha ! He made the cowards paint the whole town with red paint ! And left the little person in charge.
Love that movie.
And, after I’ve seen it 10 times or so, thanks for spoiling the ending.
Right now - RISP, NYY-style
All inning long, apparently.
I really should be rooting against the Rays, but I just can’t help but enjoy a Papelbon blown save.
Probability we’re swept 92.37%
Looks like an ump took part of a shattered bat to the dome yesterday.
Just another reason to replace them with diodes and CCD’s. At least behind the plate.
Support the umps. Get them off the field.
Welcome to Lago Hell.
RISP fail mass hysteria?
I think being horsewhipped to death is about the worst thing imaginable.
After being RISP-failed to death, that is.
And now after a few bad starts, RISP choking of a historic nature, the fielding is going.
Mets and Yanks are really 2 different stories this season. They are
Apparently the fail is contagious.
Hey hey hey ! Mordecai shot the skunk who was gonna bushwack Clint ! He had it coming.
Will we get another hit today?
[28]
You’ve already reported the ending of the movie.
Are you watching it backwards
How did that carry for a HR? Especially on that pitch and that swing.
I really should be rooting against the Rays, but I just can’t help but enjoy a Papelbon blown save.
It was the best of both worlds. A Papelbon blown save and a Rays loss.
[30] Untrue. The first guy gets horsewhipped to death. The next gets hung from the neck by a whip. Then he shoots the guy who plays his brother in the movie with the orange-angutang, and some weasel with a pencil mustache from the town is drawing a bead on him and the midget shoots the weasel from behind, saving the day.
And just in time, next up “Heartbreak Ridge”. The fatguy is about to pull a blade on him in the jail.
Ow !
You might want to check the story about the Schilling video game disaster in R.I. I’m not good with links, but the blog by T.Bogg on the Firedoglake (yes, I am a liberal) commented on it.
[33]
And then he leaves the red town with the sign.
“Stitch Jones ?” Man, I grew up in Elizabeth NJ and never met anyone named “Stitch”.
Who’s the home plate umpire in this one ? Stevie Wonder ?
34 been following that what I like is how free market Curt was only to happy to take govt loans for himself. Firedog’s a little left even for me.
I particularly like the discription of Schilling as a “typical Randoid parasite”.
Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling said Friday that the collapse of his 38 Studios video game company probably has cost him his entire baseball fortune, and he placed part of the blame on Rhode Island officials, including Gov. Lincoln Chafee
This is where Cano excels.
Yanks look sharp at the plate and on the field tonight.
Tough to watch right now
I fear we’re only playing slightly below our ability while during the streak we were playing well above.
[42] I fear that too. But the pitching could continue to be good, I think. Position players are a different story. They need to trade for an OF or a good DH bat, so they should stay in the ballgame to win the division.
Nova has been brilliant today.

I was trying to be optimistic earlier but this is total horse shit. One hit by the leadoff guy in the first inning, two errors. Absolutely putrid and inexcusable.
26. If the Mets keep up this pace with two outs and men on this season I’ll eat my hat. Fluke season from Dickey and an absolute career year from Wright, along with a surprising bounce-back by Santana and contribution from Nieuwenheis, all that has them at seven games over. They are pretty ordinary.
[23] mass hysteria is supposed to be popular among teenage girls and Yankee hitters.
Ibanez needs to get DFA’d.
Martin used to be more patient, but just 3 weeks ago. He’s hacking at everything now
Arod has to stop hitting into DPs when it counts and hitting solo HRs when it doesn’t and 145 RISP Robbie is excrecable.
84 mph fastballs = Yankee Kryptonite.
[50] so knuckleballs will just be “don’t bother”?
Only 80 pitches for Nova, who’s pitched around 2 errors. One of them an inning ending DP.
Jeter swung through an 85 and 87 mph fastball.
Time to tie this up, Arod.
Arod is hopeless unless there’s a 5 run differential and no one on.
By stealing that base, Grandy just made Cano a .145 hitter.
Sweet popups tonight, guys.
dazzled by Chris Young. Wow.
Beginning to totally hate 145 RISP Robbie Chokee
Grandee is stupid. Fine him and anyone who gets into RISP Robbie or Arod up.
Pathetic cubed!
Walk Quintanilla to get closer to the pitcher.
He certainly pitched him around. Got him an a 2-0 changeup outside the zone
Pathetic. Young looks better at the plate tonight than all the Yankees combined.
Game over
At least we have Rapada

I am actively pissed to be watching this game instead of doing something else with my night.
4 in a row, I hope this streak could be shorter than the winning streak
[65] Mrs. Dirty Hippie made me turn off Clint when they started playing with automatic weapons as she was serving supper.
So now I’m watching House on the DVR.
Right here.
Ok. DFA Ibanez now. Good they had him for this last AB
Fistpumps in the pressbox.
That was fucking great. Win this fucker.

Scoreless bottom seventh and the Yanks would be in a good shape. Big inning.
[72] - Indeed. And who better to handle it than Cody Eppley?
ugh…
What the fuck is Ibanez doing in the field?????? That’s on Girardi.
welp
[75] I’m going to pretend that that is the NL’s fault.
Brett Gardner, how I miss thee….
[77] No. That’s a big mistake. Just the worst mistake

Gardner would have caught that ball with one foot.
LOOGIE!
[79] The NL, you mean?
Logan’s Run….
And apparently we get a Paps BS and a TB loss.
Cake eaten and had!
LOTGIE! That’s was nails.
Warning track power for Arod
Just missed, Alex.
“And apparently we get a Paps BS and a TB loss”
And a Thome walk-off, tying him with Sosa, for those of us who root for that big galoot.
Now how about some good times at Shea, er, Citi?
I am drawing comfort that Alex’s misses are at least classed “flies out sharply” rather than the normal “pops up to shallow RF” we’ve been getting accustomed to.
The last two pitches weren’t even close.
DRob don’t need no defense.
DROB is a true believer in the AA theory.
A BUNCH OF US MISSED THE “AA THEORY” THING.
CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HAVE THE DECENCY TO EXPLAIN IT TO US!
We thank you for your support.
[93] - Seconded.
Once you’re in on AA theory, you can’t admit it exists.
[95]
Says one of the others to have asked about it.
Hah.
OK, but don’t let anyone know I showed you this.
Small unnoticeable fistpumps in the Citi pressbox.
At Village Vanguard. Set finished, pleasantly surprised at final but reading comments sounds more like we lost then won. No kudos, no written fist bumps.
[97]
Nobody showed me what I don’t know what you’re talking about who are you anyway.
But how would that explain comments like [92]? If we were actually talking about anything anyway, what who no idea whistle…..
