Sorry for the early start. I’m going to be out of contact for the next few hours and I just wanted to make sure we had a game thread up in time. I’ll try to edit the lineups in before the game starts. Let’s hope that the Mets are as accommodating to the Yankees as they were two weeks ago (and this past week, as they took care of the Rays and the Orioles).

I’m really looking forward to seeing an exW-L at the end of these inter league shenanigans. Just putting that out there because I really appreciate seeing those charts.

Also, the Mets closer called the Yankees players “chickens” today, which is ESPN newsiness at its finest.

[1] The Mets closer is a turkey.

I am a soaring eagle.

Bud Selig is one of the creepy vulture creatures from the Dark Crystal.

I would trade the Yanks’ TBA for the Mets’ TBA.

[2] That would be a Skeksi.

I’m going to try to enjoy the next two games because I have a feeling that Sunday’s game is going to make me very angry at the Yankee offense.

[4] You know, I actually looked that up last weekend.

Edit: did you have to look that up?

The eagle never lost so much time as when he submitted to learn of the turkey.

[5] No, no—-I’ve always loved the Dark Crystal, especially the music.  I did check to make sure I was spelling the word correctly though.  Thought for sure there was an “x” in there.

[7] The Dark Crystal left quite an impression on me as a child, so I went back and watched it about a year ago. I really enjoyed everything except for the gelflings. I’m not sure I agree with the decisions to go with such wooden main characters against the rich complexity of the rest of the world and puppetry.

Are they going to get this game in?  It just started raining here in West Jersey.

[8] I can recall being very disturbed and moved by the connection between the Mystics and the Skeksis.  I agree completely—-the Gelflings are easily the least interesting part of the movie.

Just started pouring at stadium

Billy Crystal’s brother from another mother?

I live in Queens and the rain has pretty much stopped.

Near Columbia it’s been off and on, off for the last 20 min. or so.
Anyone here live on Gerard Ave.?

0-1 with risp

[15] I was just about to ask.
That is the BEST case scenario, right?

Hello 3 game losing streak

RISP Robbie fail

.145 with RISP for Cano

“Let’s go Yankees” chant is louder in Citi field than in DNYS

That was quick. The Yankees are regressing to their mean, can’t win that much games with this team

This is fucking brutal. Later.

OTF, all comes back vs. Frankenstein Francisco in the 9th.

Here comes 0-2 with RISP

At least make it a ballgame, Derek

Just love how the 10 game winning streak is going to be cancelled out by a 10+ game losing streak.

Does it only seem that losing streaks are unusually often followed by losing streaks of at least 3 games?

[27] That’s some sentence.

If your losing streak isn’t followed by a three game losing streak, it wasn’t much of a losing streak.

[28]
Good point.
But you know the word you need to correct to make it work.

One of those games…

Hate the NL rules

Can’t pull Pettitte for a PH now. Doesn’t make sense

[30] Farnsing?

Niese is really good

After one bad and very unlucky first inning, BC settled in nicely.

How do you pronounce “Niese”?

Vintage Arod

Cano looks really bad against lefties

Yay stat padding!  Maybe the rest of the team will do some stat padding also without noticing that the game is getting closer.

Fangraphs has Alfonso Soriano as an above average defensive OF. I never thought he could be an above average fielder, but if that’s sustainable I would like him in a trade where the Cubs eat most of his salary. Is that impossible?

Maybe Alex’s stat padding ways rubbed off on Andruw.  Remember, the Mets have an unassailable lead, so get those stats up everyone.

Soriano earns 18 million a year through 2014. If the Yankees can have him at 7 million per year, they should at least think about it.

Take a strike there, Derek.  It’s not like you are going to hit one out against a RHP

[43] Agreed, but ZIPS projected him for 2.9 wins this season.  If we take away 0.5 WAR per year, that makes him worth 4.3 wins in 2013-2014.  I doubt the Cubs will offer him that cheap.  Fair value is more like $10.5m/year if the Yankees trade them nothing.

Wade is not fooling anyone lately

[45] I agree, but maybe they can get him cheaper. Not probable, though.

Nice of Wade to give them more room to statpad.

Wade is the worst pitcher in baseball right now.

Before tonight’s awful performance, in the month of June hitters have a .318/.385/.727 line in 26 PA against Wade.

What if they throw in one or two of the promising prospects they’d just screw up otherwise?

[49] Tim Lincecum says HA!

Even when Tex gets hits it seems like a miracle when they fall in, his low BABIP is here to stay

[50] Well, Ruth had a better career line than that (.342/.474/.690), if by uncomfortably little.

[54] What a line for the Bambino

What if they throw in one or two of the promising prospects they’d just screw up otherwise?

I removed the parts that can be assumed in all cases. More economical in terms of 1’s and 0’s.

That was effing sweet like sugar.

What a shot for Cano!

If they can hit 3 more dingers they will lose in extra innings

I think I wanted to post this, but the comp is ridiculously slow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cqCNX_ZoDw

Does that count ? It was hit without RISP.

Wolf setting things up for Frankenstein in the 9th

Swisher is bad at defense. Time to let him walk

Come on Joe, it’s a high leverage situation, maybe the last out of the game, you can use Robertson here. You’re not getting a RHB against Eppley. And he really sucks vs lefties

[63] Fangraphs says that the LI was 0.4, and they don’t even konw about WOE

The word is SHIT!

Nice of Iguana to turn a 4 pitch walk into a 2-2 count.

Edit: got the BB anyway, so it was really a genius move to drive up the pitch count.

Chicken ala Queens?

Blast here, please, Captain.

This is setting up nicely for Granderson’s go-ahead TYM.

Let’s set things up for Alex to do more stat padding.

Game over.

This is setting up nicely for Teix’s go-ahead TYM. For which he is long overdue.

Chicken shit

Teix is a fucking glue pot.

Sure hope they end this awful losing streak when I’m at the game tomorrow

Bad news- Yankees lose
Good news- someone shanks Sandusky and he slowly bleeds to death.

Bubble is bursting like Lehman brothers.  I predict 7 in a row.

3 straight ugly losses. The Yankees just can’t hit with RISP

Can not hitting with RISP really be a skill?

[79] Don’t underestimate hall of fame talent.

Not a skill but it CAN be a psychological thing.  I don’t think Cano this year is a fluke.  All of Arods incredibly ill timed DPs?  And Swish has admitted to pressing in the post season.

41-28 and made a 5-0 first inning hole into a competitive game. Don’t complain too much, yet.

[82] Spoilsport.

The new winning streak is not going as well as expected.
