Rodriguez 3B
Cano 2B
Teixeira 1B

Here’s an interesting fact for today’s game. Ivan Nova and Edwin Jackson have combined for 11 wins this year, which is 11 wins more than Cliff Lee has.
The best thing about today’s game is that it reduces the number of non-DH games the Yankees will play by one. Everything else is secondary to that. I was hoping the Yankees would take two of three in this series so in theory I should be happy. That being said It’d make me happier to see Ivan Nova getting his ERA down further to more closely reflect how well I think he’s pitched this season, and if he can do that today in a game the Yankees can win then all the better. I’d estimate that unless Nova gives up zero runs, the Yankees won’t win this game, so that’s the goal. Keeping the ball away from LF is probably going to be key in that case. And away from SS. And away from 3B. And away from CF.
I’m sensing a pattern here…

So you’re saying Nova is going to require Great Stuff (TM) today?
That seems inconsistent with the “zero runs” requirement.
I really love the fact that this substandard lineup is being used not because of this being a House Money game but because Swisher got hurt and Martin caught 14 innings yesterday. If not for those two things happening, Swisher and Martin would both be in there.
I really dig that about Girardi’s lineups.
[2] So you’ve resorted to lying yourself about House Money lineups now?
I’m pretty sure A-rod is House Money.

You want to talk house money? Miguel Cairo and Willie Harris are batting back to back in the Reds’ lineup. And Cairo steals a bag!
Jeter is house money.
Can the house money get a hit with RISP?
It’s hilarious how they come up with ways not to score.
Doomed.
Better than a GIJP.
Kept the RISP number at an oh-fer while getting a run in. Smart, Teix!
nope!
Harper is so good he can make a diving catch without leaving his feet.

Teix made solid contact and so did Ibanez. The only poor at-bat in that sequence belonged to the Centaur. Still a promising inning. Unless Jackson settles down. Then we can complain.

Give Cano the gold glove right now.
Wouldn’t they have to give him the Golden Non-Glove ?

Ah, yes, the golden hand.
Nice job by Stewarto, deflating that RISP average.
I searched and found the most House Money lineup Torre ever used. Get ready for this 2003 lineup Torre used in the second game of a doubleheader at the end of the season after the Yankees won the first game.
Erick Almonte - SS
Luis Sojo - 2B
Ruben Sierra - RF
Jason Giambi - DH
Fernando Sefuignol - 1B
Karim Garcia - CF
Juan Rivera - LF
Drew Henson - 3B
Michel Hernandez - C
Also, not House Money related, exactly, but in 1998, when the Yankees won 114 games, Tim Raines batted cleanup twice and Chad Curtis batted cleanup once (they won all three games, of course).
We’re gonna need a new strategy.
listening to the games on radio has taught me that lawns desperately need feeding.
very nice finds, BC
a bigger boat?
Well, the “allow no runs” one is off the board.
safari on the iphone should have a reload button at the bottom of the page, so annoying to scroll up and down
24- I totally agree, or at least an instant “move to bottom of page” button. (In case you don’t know, if you tap the clock it automatically scrolls all the way up.)
Ivan Hoe-va (where is Mel anyway?) has had long ball issues since spring training.
didn’t know that, thank you. and you’re right, Mel is MIA
It was even worse when pages had 300 comments.
This team needs TSBG back
This team needs 2009 ARod back.
If the AL East had six teams and the Nationals were one of them, what place would they be?
If you use fWAR.. last place.
It just makes me marvel at how shitty the NL is compared to the AL.
So, we can’t have a sausage race, or a presidents race. If we wanted to upgrade from the virtual subway car race, what would we have ?
I’m thinking a street people between mascots representing a squeegie boy, a mugger, a guy with a 3 card monty table, and a guy selling fake designer watches.
Baseball-reference has a measure for strength of schedule. The AL East is five of the top six. The Mariners are the odd team out, in fifth place.
They also have SRS (simple rating system, which is your run differential adjusted for strength of schedule, basically a measure of team strength.) The AL East is five of the top six. The Rangers are the odd team out, in first place.
Granderson doesn’t want to stand around in RISP.
When Granderson is at the plate, there’s ALWAYS a runner in scoring position.
21 homers on June 17th. Dayum.
[30] Second or third. They seem legit, just running into an insanely hot Yankees team right now.
Edit - I didn’t take the time to look up SOS or fWAR, which disprove my point. But them being allowed to use a DH instead of P hitting would boost their offense assuming they were allowed to construct a squad for the AL East and not just surprised at the last minute to find out they were now all of a sudden in the AL East.
Also, maybe it’s time to have ARod bat 2nd, and simply focus on getting on base, and move Grandy to the middle of the lineup. Unless the issues with RISP means all of his HR automatically become K’s.
[38] Granderson will still be hitting solo HR’s batting 3-5. The lineup is circular.
[39] Excellent point. If only TSBG were alive to get on base in front of him.
I DO think Grandy should be moved to third when Gardner returns with Gardner batting first and everyone else just moving back one.
Oh wait, Gardner’s not actually ever coming back. Never mind.
[37] yeah, there isn’t really a good measure. SG could reproject everyone, but that’s different from “where would they be [now]?”
[42] Consider we don’t know what they would have done to fill the DH spot, and how that changes their offense, or how their pitchers handle facing AL East hitters in the multiple disgraceful launching pads they inhabit, it would be tough to tell.
Also, it is just me or does the ball seem to not carry that well in this park. Several times balls that seemed to be HR just died.
This will test the theory of Granderson up with RISP. Can’t wait for the inevitable K.
I can’t believe the Yankees need to win their ninth straight just to stay a game and a half ahead of the Orioles. Stupid interleague games.
Blech.
It’s because of Miracle Buck.
0-8 with RISP today.
The AA theory is panning out exactly as predicted. The NYY are on pace to finish 64-98.
Can someone explain the AA theory, I think I missed its genesis.
Also, 4 pitch innings are fun.
nova being insanely efficient
Cano!
Arod’s future is in the past. For Cano the time is now
0-9 risp
It’d be hilarious if Jones, of all people, broke the streak.

The Revenge of Canobi.
Yes, would someone please explain the AA thing to Ted. Otherwise he’ll just go on and on about it.
Edit: I also missed it and have no idear.
[56] I was hoping it would be a pitcher to break the streak, preferably a reliever.
The streak lives!
Hilarious. Two solo homers, a sac fly and a passed ball. It is like an elaborate prank they’re pulling on the rest of baseball.
Yay scoring with RISP without a hit !
Also, we seem to have a fair incidence of hits with RISP with out the S.
43 also, you can’t predict baseball
That was pretty cool GBA.
Also, the black kid is the one with the chops even though she got to play the melody. Nice job.
Are they IBB’ing Nova to encourage Binder to put in a PR and take him out of the game ?
Edit: I was typing based on the first 3 pitches, then GD caught up.
63 you shouldn’t even try
Four more years of Arod at 30 per.
[67] But we’ll always have 2009.
Turns out Nova’s pitch count limit should be 90.
Pinch hit for Ibanez with Martin and then Wise in LF
Kay trying to spin the Soriano signing as a clever insurance policy for Mo since you know, no one else on the roster could possibly close games.
“Soriano pitches better in the 9th inning than he pitches in any other inning.”
-Michael Kay
Edit - Soriano is now officially “saving their 2012 season.”
Easy as 123
safari on the iphone should have a reload button at the bottom of the page, so annoying to scroll up and down
Technically only scroll down, if you tap top of the screen (around where the time is at) safari (and all the other apps on iPhone) scrolls to the top of the page.
Thassa nice a sweep!
Yay streak! Yay RWHWRISP!
oops, double post,
and the iPhone thing was answered in the immediate subsequent comment.
Yay sweep! Yay shirt tug from the bad attitude! Yay Cano not enjoying ARod’s creepy hug from behind! Yay Ivan the not terrible! Yay for sweeping clown bros!
Dumb signing but a posteriori I’m glad he’s here
Didn’t Bill James say RISP was the most meaningless, irrelevant stat in the game?
[80] Pitcher wins have to be right there, but I think he said it was the most meaningless stat in terms of predicting future performance.
