Friday gamethread is the secret gamethread.
Tigers broadcasters just said the Yankees haven’t been very good so far. Hello, pot. How are you? Black, still?
I’m not familiar with the Tigers pitcher, but his ERA is 0.00 which pretty strongly suggests that we’re boned.
Didn’t we just suffer through Flaherty for six games. Is the by far worst color(less ) guy gonna get the most games?
My prediction for this inning. CC will strike out 3 batters and give up a home run to Cabrera.
Great, one of those umpires with the ball/strike calling capabilities of a monkey…
At least the bases weren’t loaded for that RISPfail. Shouldn’t Binder order the players to remain at first on all WPs.
Awesome start, CC.
Damnit.
CC just wants the team to be comfortable, playing with a first-inning deficit, like they’re used to.
CC has the AJ fastball tonight
Considering Sunday’s sure loss UJD’s confidence in Phil not withstanding, this game is a near must win.
“You would think, this is a good thing”
At least neither Arod or Cano aren’t up.
Correction never mind.
This AB is worth it for homeboy in the hoodie behind the plate losing his mind at these close pitches.
Only way we score there
Granderson!
Optimal.
Did Ortiz just homer? He sure lost weight.
I assume everyone who’s swung the bat this inning should be sent down?
Edit: Granderson can stay.
I love Granderson. Rangy CF with power, the best kind. It’s going to be tough when they let him go after 2013.
I love Grando
I need to go out to get cheap sushi every time the yankees load the bases

Granderson isn’t going anywhere. There’s no way. He’s a better long term option than Hamilton and Ellsbury. I think the Yankees are aware of that. They can talk up 189 million, but at the end of the day, Granderson is someone you build around.
Cannot FUCKING STAND Costas. Why the hell is he talking about Barry Bonds? Dumb tiny POS.
[24] I would love to believe this has a happy ending but I just don’t see it. Granderson will be entering his age 33 season. Matt Kemp will be making $21.5 million per during both his age 33-34 seasons and that deal wasn’t negotiated on the free agent market. I just don’t know what kind of contract will be amenable to both sides without putting another dagger in the long-term payroll. How many years would you give him?
Granderson has already signed a team-friendly deal once so maybe that’s the kind of guy he is or maybe it means he’s ready to get paid.
If SG or Fabian is around, SJ needs you to activate his account.
Come on, fat man. Get out of this inning.
wrong fat man.
It might be time to press TSBG back into service. Even with an arm in a sling, he’d get that.
Good thing the Tigers really Yankee’d it up that inning.
Seriously, Flaherty is still an announcer?
A run! A hit! with RISP!
Flaherty’s daugher, the most boring unpeppy cheerleader ever.

26. 5 years, 95 million. Caveat: Give him the extension after this season. I’d do the same with Cano. Salaries are only going to shoot upwards. I am fascinated to see the contract Melky Cabrera garners. He’ll probably sign early in the offseason and if he breaks the bank, the market will get even sillier than we can anticipate. If I’m the Yankees, I do a dual press conference for Cano and Granderson immediately after the World Series, pay them both in the neighborhood of 20 million, and move on with life.
Big man is agile.
[35] That means roughly $110 million tied up in 5 players on the wrong side of 30 through 2016. Yeesh. Forget $189 million. I don’t think they can build a consistently competitive team for $230 million with those liabilities. Note that I am not claiming to know the answer to this dilemma either.
32 seriously three straight series while Cone, etc. sit.
Well there’s an awful call.
This umpiring crew is a joke.
“Gameday is currently unavailable for this game…” ?? WTF ?
Sort of amazing that CC looked pretty rough early on and still managed to throw a 7 inning QS
And ARod’s decline continues. He looks lost up there. I’ve noticed his K:BB has been increasing the last few years, but he has had some seasons with poor ratios before.
SNY has an interesting game despite the score.
Indeed.
Yay Johan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Johan did it. Good for him but I’ll miss that record
Yay Johan!
How come Young didn’t leap to make that catch ? It was on the warning track and all. The LaalAaaAAAlAAllAAlAaaAaAAaA players have conditioned me to spectacular leaping catches on routine cans o’ corn.
[47] It’s just so much funnier when the Mets are full of futility.
He can get on a tear huh John
MVP!
Michael Kay needs to spend more time ragging on A-Rod.
Yay for Johan! Glad to see he’s pitching again.
Yay Granderson and A-Rod!

37. I echo your concerns but I think there is a good chance that Granderson ages well. The Yankees are in a tough spot but I’d rather see them roll the dice on these guys holding up instead of going cheap when they have declining A-Rod and Teix on the books for fat money anyway.

Clay Rapada not likely to be a 20 million dollar man.
[55] Yep I agree with you about Granderson. For that reason I’d rather they stick with him instead of Cano if they have to make that choice. Though it’ll suck having 4 20+ million players and none of them homegrown while shipping out the one star who came up through the system.
I feel like this whole ongoing issue deserves a prominent mention under “opportunity cost” in college econ textbooks.
Efficient Soriano? What Elder God did we please today?
Death, taxes and Soriano
woot win!
[58] None. It had to be the Estra-terrestrials.
