I’m not sure Joe Girardi grasps the concept of ‘cleanup’ hitter.

So. We’re really going to tune in for another day of this, huh?

Way to catch ‘em by surprise, Cap’n.

Grandy, too? Does Gomes have a peg-leg I don’t know about?

Terrible bunt attempt from Cano. He had way too much on that.

Teix looks bewildered at that strikeout. Like someone hasn’t shown him the film of his own ABs this season.

I swear to God, I will do this whole chatter by myself. Or until I leave work in a couple hours.

Hughes pitched well because he faced the Mariners and they suck

I see Hughes is pitching at his usual pitch count efficiency.

Good job by Hughes mixing up his pitches. Of the 15 pitches he has thrown all have been fastballs

Wow…19 pitches, 19 fastballs in the first inning

Another tidy 20-pitch inning from Hughes.

I suppose 20 fastballs is better than 19 fastballs and one cutter over the wall.

Chavez trying to take someone with him on his inevitable trip to the DL after a game spent playing on the turf.

First Brazilian player in MLB history

WTF is wrong with making easy defensive plays?

Just two three-pitch innings away from getting back to a decent pitch count.

Another rally successfully snuffed out. Teix’s work here is done.

Well that was a real surprise…

Now that they’re trailing, I’m setting the over/under on Yankee base runners for the rest of the game at 2.5.

There’s still time to take the under.

Swish is bad at running the bases.

Hughes has given up at least one home-run in each start this season.  How long can he keep it going?

The current terribleness of this team is staggering.

Does this team lead in GIDP?  When down by 3 or fewer runs I bet they do.

Just throw a fucking off speed pitch. Can’t throw just fastballs.

Can’t be much more frustrating than this. This team is by far the worst Yankee team since in almost 2 decades

I just love you guys. It’s like reading my own thoughts. I’m not even drinking yet.

Wow, 2 whole hits. This offense is a waste

80 pitches through 4IP.  Good night for Phil.

That’s one awesome popup from the cleanup hitter.  And with RISP to boot.

Now batting cleanup….

If Teix isn’t going to use that bat for anything productive, I’d like to see him develop a gimmick. Go up there and swing with a guitar, or a particularly large fish. Kind of like a reverse Gallagher.

I really thought the cleanup hitter would come through there.

[32] That would make this team so much more watchable. Maybe instead of intro songs each batter could have their own schtick?

Phil Hughes is the CT-est CT that ever CT-ed. Discuss.

Very good outing by Hughes so far. Too many fastballs, but I liked how he mixed his change against righties last inning.

So much for Hughes having a good outing against a good team

Gehrig, Mantle, Berra, Bernie, Arod (who’d I omit? ) and tonight.

When they have Ben Francisco and Yan Gomes and Rajai Davis in their lineup, I would quibble with calling the Jays a good team.

[39] At least they’re not the Mariners.

Cory Wade is our best reliever now, isn’t he?

I can’t remember a time when a 1 run deficit felt so massive.

It would be cool if Granderson homered here.  But it would also suck knowing the next run won’t come for 7 more innings, if they make it that far.

I’m bored…

Well, there goes any hope

That was fun.

Stick a fork in this team.

What an inspiring team.

Yankees jumped the shark big time.

40 Mariners have Montero, we have D.L. but not Hughely

I know this team is done, I just hope they at least try to rebuild. Let Swisher, Cano and Grandy walk. Save the money and take the picks. But then I know they won’t do that, because they like signing expensive FA who won’t be in their prime 2 years after they sign them.

This team will be bad for a while

They’re so bad we can’t even complain.  Where’s the Charleston River Dogs site?

Bad and boring is no way to go through life as a baseball team

Kinda don’t think Jays needed insurance runs

Abandon all hope ye who have posted here!

[55] Sorry bop. I grew up in Philly, surrender is nodinmy lexycon.

[32] They could put excepts of this clip when El Kabong Teix comes up to bat instead of playing his theme music.

Hate to break with the general zeitgeist here but it seems like at least Hughes wasn’t horrific. I expected something like 2.1 IP 6 ER. Course I didn’t watch a lick of the game so perhaps he pitched worse than his final line?

I wonder if Giambi, today, is a better left-handed hitter than his 20 million a year replacement.

[59] The answer, of course, is yes. At least that’s the case if we’re going by recent performance alone, since true talent is hard to judge.

3/41 RISP last 5 games, 3/60 last 9 losses

[61] That right there is enough to spread -2 or -3 WAR around someone’s actuals.

In their latest display of futility, bases loaded, nobody out, no runs scored—two force outs at home and a pop up.

Aren’t you glad you came back, Andy?

we won!

oh and todd frazier!!! ru rah rah!

Nova either looks impressive, striking out hitters with big swings and misses but can’t induce weak contact
