Yankees.com: Yankees’ hot start fizzles in loss to Twins

NEW YORK—Joe Girardi offered up a prophecy Monday afternoon that he’d rather have not seen come true.

Just hours before his club took the field for the series opener against the visiting Twins—who have had remarkably little success at Yankee Stadium over the last 10 years—Girardi noted how formidable the heart of Minnesota’s order is again, with the resurgent health of Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau, and the addition of outfielder Josh Willingham.

As formidable as the heart of the Yankees’ order?

Losing to the Twins at home is not something that can be spun.  They stink, and now the Yankees have to try and make up for it.  Taking the next three games would be a start to that.

ted, thanks for keeping the jean jacket tradition flying. I missed most of the game.

It’s Derek Jeter’s world. We’re all just living in it.

“Bring me the head of Freddy Garcia.” - Mel Hall

[2] I want to drink beer out of his empty skull.

By the way, I can’t believe Girardi left Freddie in as long as he did.  Was Phelps unavailable?

Granted, I’d have probably used Wade too and Wade stunk last night.  And WOE took the game off after the 1st (though man did Swish get screwed on some calls).

I think I read that they wanted to give him until Tuesday.

As formidable as the heart of the Yankees’ order?

So far, yes.  Cano, A-Rod, and Teix have a combined OPS just under .700.

Is it me or is Swish getting the worst treament by umpires of any Yankee this year?  does anyoen ahve this kind of pitch FX data by at bat. Off the top of my head, I can think of at least 3 Ks that had no business being Ks this year. Then again, did you see the treatment Cody Ross got yesterday?

Buck Showalter is telling his crew today “If you’d have put up a little fight against the gd Yankees, we’d not only be in first, but running away from the pack !”

So far, yes.  Cano, A-Rod, and Teix have a combined OPS just under .700.

Yes, that was my point.  Complaining.

Apparently my complaint recognition average is well below replacement level.

[9] Technically, it was less of a complaint than an expression of disdain.

[11] Great, another inside joke that we can all run into the ground.  Just what this blog needs.

[12] excellent complaint.  8.5 on the kvetchometer.

I somehow have the feeling that if Cano’s BB% is 12.8 at year’s end, he’ll win an MVP…

[14] He’ll need a bit more than 0 homers and 1 RBI.

Didn’t we do that a lot last year, that is have a good first inning and then take the rest of he game off?

We as in this blog?  I don’t think we take innings off.

[16] Probably not, but I don’t feel like going back through 162 game logs…

What if this is the Yankees this year?  Spotty starting pitching, age catching up with everyone (except the Captain)?

I’m gonna start reading Astros blogs to see how they deal with it.

I think you need to be a mental health specialist to really understand how they are dealing with things over there.

I think what we did a lot of last year was get a few baserunners in the first, then GIDP them, then fade to the finish as the game went on with a tease towards the end.

[15] I think Cano’s focus on walking more is going to prove as deleterious to his game as all those home runs he hit last season.

I’m gonna start reading Astros blogs to see how they deal with it.

Meth helps… so I’ve heard.

Frustrating that the Yankees starting pitching surplus has so quickly devolved into a need.  Pettitte can’t join this rotation fast enough.

Between Evelyn Woods and Meth I’m able to get thru a Sons Of Sam Horn game thread in last then an hour

Derek Jeter’s good start has some in the media talking crazy. As premature as they were to write him off last summer, they are also premature thinking he’s on the way to the MVP.  Today I read that based upon a ten game performance that 4000 hits may be within reach. I would be pleased with a .300 plus season with at least 160 hits and 140 games played.  That would be remarkable for a player turning 38 in June.

I’m still pissed that the Yanks traded Montero. Noesi too, for that matter. I’ll be surprised if Pineda wins 10 games in his Yankee career. I hope I’m very much wrong. It’s irritating also that our so called most immediate alternative to Montero, now has serious back issues.  Austin Romine.

This year? Sweet.

It’s irritating also that our so called most immediate alternative to Montero, now has serious back issues.

FWIW, I always thought that Sanchez was a better comp, but he’s by no means an immediate replacement. And Montero was a DH, so I don’t know that you can call Romine his replacement either. I’m splitting hairs I guess.

[27] - He could get 4000 hits this year, but not the way Cano, A-Rod, and Teix are hitting.  He just won’t get enough PA with 3 automatic outs in the lineup.

[29] You could bat him 9th. Second lead off. Most dangerous spot in the line up. Probably would get enough PA’s that way.
