Yankees.com: Yankees hit all day to back Garcia’s 150th win

Even an inning after Raul Ibanez added another deep home run to his career-long collection, the Mariners still wanted to face him. So Oliver Perez intentionally walked Mark Teixeira to load the bases for Ibanez, who broke the game open with a two-run single in the sixth inning of New York’s 6-2 win on Sunday afternoon.

The Yankees built their lead in the early innings against Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma but consistently added on, making it easier for Freddy Garcia to teeter through the Mariners lineup en route to the 150th victory of his career.

Nice win. It does sort of put CC’s dominant performance into perspective when Fredo pitched so well against these guys. They are the Mariners, after all.

Ichiro’s ridiculous “one single hit in ever game” streak continues, with Michael Saunders losing a lazy fly ball in the sun for a double.

The Yankees go to Detroit tomorrow for a four-game set against the Tigers. After catching King Felix in this series, they get to open up against Verlander in Detroit. Oh boy (I also like that Baltimore gets Seattle next and misses King Felix).

In other news, the Yankees were “pleased” by recent X-rays for Pettitte. I presume that means he will still have a foot at the end of the season. Also, the Yankees seem to be interested in perhaps using Gardner in September as a pinch-runner. He could never make the playoff roster as a pinch-runner, could he? Your pinch-runner has to at least have the ability to stay in the game, no?

I bet you can find a bunch of playoff teams that had players that pinch ran and never got a PA, but maybe not as many where the guy didn’t play the field.

Sorry, I meant “stay in the game.” I edited accordingly.

AFAIK, Gardner’s injury does not impede him playing defense…does it? Since it’s his non-throwing arm he could theoretically come in as PR/DR?

How would one of those artificial blade leg thingies work for a pitcher ? I’m thinking it would help if it were their back leg, the spring action would give them extra drive off the rubber. As a leading leg to lang on, I can’t see it working so well.

Also, regarding meteors, the Trop is in desperate need of a meteor strike. Failing that, I suppose wherever TWN are playing. If that were Texas, it would be even better. Really, any stadium where they light off fireworks has it coming.

[3] I was thinking that too, but honestly, if they were going to do that, why not just keep Wise? He’s probably gets you 75% of the way there, and you don’t have to worry about Gardner’s getting re-injured and messing up 2013.

Yeah, exactly. Then again, as we saw with the Red Sox last season, they couldn’t find a single PR/DR available at the close of the season (and I believe it burned them a couple of times during their historic collapse). Is Wise still available?

[4] They are basically designed to mimic the achilles tendon/calf action, so I don’t think they’d give a meaningful advantage.

Misty and Kerri are friggin good.

Prefer Aura and Mystique.

[9] Strippers?

Fury and Siren

OMG that hurt

Usain Bolt vs Sarah the cheetah: who ya got?

Bolt! Wow! Seeing is believing!  Michael who?

13 Good kitty

Those guys on the pommel horse make it look there’s CGI involved.

Dude, your hatred for swimmers because NBC chooses to highlight them (before track and field even starts?) is kind of over the top.

Hey bebop did you see how much attention Bolt and Blake got, especially compared to the American sprinters? WTF, I was sure that NBC was a network of pure propaganda, set out to brainwash us into hating athletes from other countries. Could it really be that they’re a ratings-driven business that chooses to focus on stars? Nah, too simple.

[17]
Yankz, time to wake up.

Did Hitler swim? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-6Sz3kytKo)

Did Stalin swim? (http://www.euroheritage.net/stalinshomegallery.shtml)

Did the shark in “Jaws” swim?

I think I’ve made my point.

Anyone know the record for consecutive games with exactly one hit? I know it is less than 56. smile

yankz should maybe watch some women’s beach volleyball and relax.

Men’swimming is awesome. So are track & field events. Why can’t we all just get along?

[14] - The problem with Bolt (and most winning sprinters) is you just know they are juicing.  It’s not as fun to watch when you think of it as a competition between pharmacists.

[21] I’m doing my part to keep the peace by maintaining a profound lack of interest.

Every four years we have to not only endure presidential politics, we have to suffer through 2 weeks of hype and artificial drama, from athletes we’ve never heard of before (nor will again) competing in sports that wouldn’t normally rate the overnights on ESPN 8.

Anyone know the record for consecutive games with exactly one hit? I know it is less than 56.

From this article.

- His hitting streak with exactly one hit in each game is the longest since the Dodgers’ Willy Aybar had a 13-game streak in 2006. The Cardinals’ Ted Sizemore has the longest such streak since 1970, going 16 straight games in 1975…

[23] Although a lot of drama is definitely artificial (thanks a lot, NBC), there are also amazing feats of human body and spirit. Look at what Pistorius has accomplished: he is an inspiration to many, many people worldwide. There are lots of other inspirational stories - we just don’t get to hear about them because of #NBCFAIL. To me, that’s what Olympics is all about, not Michael Phelps being interviewed by Ryan Seacrest.

[26] Pistorius is amazing. I’m really glad he’s gotten the chance to compete and been good enough to advance.

The problem with NBC is that they create artificial drama. The coverage we get is drastically different than what any other country gets. I spoke to a few friends from Canada and the Olympics are covered and easily available on any number of their public/national channels. Also it’s insane that I have to jump through hoops to watch the olympics on my PC (vpn to the UK and watch the BBC feed).

The Olympics is about creating opportunities to sell advertising. They will give you coverage designed to maximize that. It’s not about the athletes’ performance, or their back story. It’s about selling razors and soda pop and smart phones.

Five minutes on the high jump qualifiers and long jump finals was far too little.
But an exciting Badminton final at 1am, who knew Badminton was so fast paced.  Not my childhood Badminton for sure.

(26->28) absolutely and I might add Justin Bieber’s video message to Missy Franklyn.  Really NBC?  Really?

He could never make the playoff roster as a pinch-runner, could he? Your pinch-runner has to at least have the ability to stay in the game, no?

Everyone remembers Dave Roberts right?  He’s the guy who Boston had on base before they canceled the playoffs in 2004.  That’s what he did in 2004.  Appeared in 3 games, entered all 3 as a PR, and was removed after his role was done.  So yeah, it’s definitely doable.  They can carry at least a couple of extra players since they’ll cut the pitching staff down, having one by only a PR isn’t awful.

I was thinking that too, but honestly, if they were going to do that, why not just keep Wise?

I just think that Gardner is an option is all.  They also have Nunez, Dickerson, or probably a handful of other guys they could use as well.
