Yankees.com: Pettitte will make Yankees return on Sunday

NEW YORK—The Yankees plan to add Andy Pettitte to their active roster and have him pitch on Sunday against the Seattle Mariners, general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday.

“I think everyone is in agreement, he’s not going to benefit from any more time down there [in the Minor Leagues],” Cashman said.

I thought for sure he’d get another start in the minors, but I was clearly wrong.  Hopefully he’s ready.

I’m conflicted. I’m looking forward to his game introduction, but not sure how well he’s going to pitch. How long of a leash does he get? My fears are Cashman and Girardi will go 2-3 games longer than necessary if Pettitte isn’t up to the task, just because he’s so core-four-tastic.

So, the rotation is Nova, Phelps, CC vs. TB, and then Kuroda, Hughes, Pettitte vs. Sea?

I guess this means Phelps gets bumped, and Nova gets an extra day?

Yeah, I think they’ll send Phelps down to start in AAA and I’m cool with that.  He should be starting every fifth day anyway, although he’s gotten more work than I expected with the dreadful Yankee rotation so far.

I’m excited, and even cautiously optimistic. To be worse than the worst starter we’ve seen this year, he’d have to be almost historically bad. Either way, something exciting is going to happen: An acceptable arm or an entertaining meltdown. Let’s do this thing.

[3]  Makes sense having Phelps fully stretched out for when they nedd him.

Seems like Garcia can hold down the long-man role.

They can keep Phelps up through the SEA series in case something goes Kuroda, Hughes, or BattleCat bomb horribly (one of them will.) Then send him down after BattleCat’s start.

Looks like the “A” lineup tonight. Sad that the “A” lineup features Iganez at DH and Nunie in LF.

When will Gardner be back?

[7] I think he got rained out of a rehab start for the travelin’ SWBs already? Possibly on RAB.
