Yankees.com: Joe Girardi gets Possessed by Joe Torre

Rafael Soriano and Dave Robertson combined to allow four Twins runs in the eighth inning after CC Sabathia tossed a gem, retiring the final 17 batters he faced.

Just because you have a potentially great bullpen doesn’t mean you have to use them IN EVERY SINGLE GAME THAT YOU HAVE A LEAD IN.  Soriano had pitched in three of the first four games of the year, and there was no sense using him tonight with a four run lead.

SG with an all CAPS sentence.  Think he/we are pissed?

What an awful loss.

Yeah, I am still fuming.  I need to take a walk or something.

That was a game they really should have won.

Watching the Torreardi postgame assblasting right now. Joseph seems a wee bit irked at the snarky questions coming at him.

Wow, this press conference is making me angrier.

Reporter: Joe, who would have pitched the ninth if Soriano pitched a scoreless eighth?

Girardi: I’d have used Robertson to start the ninth.

Reporter: So why not flip them?

Girardi: Because I am going to use my eighth inning guy.

WTF?

[3] I’m sending the Yankee BP over. You can walk all night.

Could be worse, you know.

Pete, is this were I say “could be raining?”

We also got fucked by the schedule.  Since when do you play NINE straight this early in the season.

Seeing Joe Nathan blow an 89 mph fastball past Jeter for the third out didn’t exactly help things either.

the Red Sox being 0-4 makes me feel much better, of course the Twins in YS is really those free wins that you shouldn’t let slip.

Very nice, OTF.

Too late.

The complaint thread potential of this game is off the charts. Joe Girardi has official 7th inning, 8th inning and 9th inning guys. I think he is taking his official position a tad too seriously.

Also David Robertson is not one guy I would trust much with bases loaded. He can get a strikeout, but he can as easily walk people. Control artist he is not.

Lets have a pool on when/if Jeter hits his first home run and total number of home runs.  Predictions?

The complaint thread potential of this game is off the charts.

I’d like to complain about Shaked constantly bring up Thurm’s joblessness.

Let it go already.

[16] I’ll take the Over.

[15] For some reason Robertson doesn’t worry me. Not sure why.

[16] I will say Jeter will hit that first HR around Easter, and he will hit about 12 this year.  Before the season, I would have said he would get #3000 around June 1st… now it is looking like July 15th… guh…

Still pissed off.

[15] I had the same reaction, but then I thought, “If he walks in one and strikes out one, we’re still up two, with Mo in the 9th.”

I had already pretty much counted this as a win after they went up 4-0 with CC cruising, which makes it especially painful.  Even in the eighth I expected Robertson to minimize the damage.

Having just got home from a gig, I am newly pissed off.

You all go to sleep; I have a 6-pack of Victory Prima Pils so I’ll take it from here.

What gig?

Robertson was maybe a foot away from getting out of it, which really sucks.

Girardi’s bullpen management was baffling to be sure.

Also, it seemed like Swisher misplayed the game-tying bloop double by Delmon Young.  He either needed to completely sell out with a full, head-first dive at the ball for the out, or stay on his feet, keep the ball in front of him, and give himself a chance at preventing the tying run from scoring.  Certainly a difficult decision to make in a split second, but a better play could have been made.

Also, it seemed like Soriano might have been squeezed a little, but I didn’t see any pitch/fx kind of data to support this…

[24]  When not at my day job or on RLYW, I play trumpet.

Armstrong or Miles?  Morgan or Hubbard?

Armstrong over Miles, Morgan over Hubbard, but you’ve got me all wrong.  Chocolate Armenteros is the man.

Don’t even know who that is.  I’m only just beginning to become aware of Afro-Cuban jazz (really, Latin jazz period).  I ordered this the other day on a whim after hearing “Los Gatos” on the radio.

Lets have a pool on when/if Jeter hits his first home run and total number of home runs.  Predictions?

I predict he never homers again, ever.

“Los Gatos” which is Spanish for, The Gatos.
