Yankees.com: Ibanez’s eighth-inning slam sends Yanks past Jays

NEW YORK—Raul Ibanez crushed an eighth-inning grand slam off Jason Frasor, powering the Yankees to a 6-3 victory over the Blue Jays on Monday at Yankee Stadium.

Ibanez unloaded on a 3-1 pitch from Frasor for his 10th career slam and first as a Yankee, sending a high arcing drive into the right-field seats to mark the sixth grand slam hit by the Bombers this season.

The blast made a winner of reliever David Robertson, who pitched a scoreless top half of the eighth for New York.

So now, are we finding out that Dr. Andrews knows a little more about elbows than TSBG, who dismissed the good Doc’s assessment and said “it doesn’t matter what he says” or word to that effect ?

I had a feeling that the shockmaster was due to do something unexpected

Shockmaster with a higher .OBP than Montero. Rooting for Jesus to get it going at this point, he’s really struggling.

Any thoughts on trade targets to fill in LF?

I don’t see a move to fill LF unless they get an offer that gives them a potential RF for 2013.  I think they’ll stick with a platoon of Jones/Ibanez with Wise as defensive replacement late.

Oh noes!  Big Papi has an achilles injury.

He’ll simply rub some Jamba Juice on it.

For the record, I was sitting in a bar enjoying an adult beverage during that AB with a sales representative from another firm and when the count reached 3-1 I made the statement, “He’s going to be looking middle-in here and if he gets his pitch he’s going to hit a HR, otherwise he’s not going to swing.”

And what a sweet swing it was.

Who was it wanted someone besides Iganez on the Yankees?

I’m over Montero.  I’m rooting for Justin Smoak II.  Choke on it, Jack Z.

Shaked, did you wind up buying anything?

Finally, 117 comments for a Monday game against a non-contender, and I think some new names.  Build the community!

everyone except Cashman, as far as I know.

[10]  Well, I was implicating myself.  I guess I didn’t do a very good job.

Too bad we don’t
have Montero and his 280 OBP or Damon and his 286 instead of Ibanez at DH.

Per the game thread, I was at Fenway tonight.  No meteor.  Thanks for the moderate concern for my safety.

I complained about Shockmaster yesterday.  I will continue.

His OBP sucks.  We need Branyan.  [objective pipe smoke is goooooood]

Oh, and by the way, Hughes.  7IP, 2ER.  In DNYS!

Earthquake in a Storm Trooper mask…pure gold.

Was I the only one screaming at the TV for Ibanez to take and make Frasor throw two strikes?

Yeah.

By the way, is there maybe something to this Andruw Jones teaching Granderson how to play CF stuff? He looks much better.

[17] That’s something I’d like to hear more about. Granderson’s catch was the best part of Sunday’s game. And [9],[10] ... I’m also Guilty, Guilty, Guilty.

I wanted lots of guys over Ibanez.  I wouldn’t have been happy with the price on almost all of them though, so I was content with Ibanez.  Especially as Cashman had shown in the past with these low-cost contracts that if the player doesn’t perform, he’ll happily jettison them.

As for LF…I generally agree with SG.  With the caveat that if the “right deal” comes along, Cashman will pull the trigger.  E.g. if the Phillies ask for only something like Ramiro Pena and DJ Mitchell for Shane Victorino (they won’t, just an example), I think he’ll do it in a minute, and then try to use Victorino’s experience with the team to get him signed to a friendly contract.

I actually called the RussMart HR last night. True story based on the statistical law of “something’s gotta give.”
