Yankees.com: CC sharp as Yankees take series from Tigers
NEW YORK—CC Sabathia turned in his sharpest outing of the young season, Curtis Granderson homered and drove in a pair of runs and the Yankees defeated the Tigers, 6-2, on Sunday at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees scraped together just enough from their numerous opportunities to score against Tigers starter Max Scherzer, posting a victory even after stranding an eye-popping 15 men on base.
Hoping for a deep outing to assist a taxed bullpen, the Yankees got what they needed from Sabathia, as the ace left-hander pitched eight innings and limited the Tigers to two runs as he charged to his third consecutive victory.
I guess we can stop worrying about CC for now.
Nick Swisher left the game with a low-grade hamstring strain, which may not necessarily require a DL stint, but will probably keep him out of action for a few games. I guess this means more Raul Ibanez follies in the OF.

an eye-popping 15 men on base
15 would be significant, but not “eye-popping.”
The number of LOB listed on GD, however, is 27.
Can that be right?
[EDIT: That obviously includes the cases where a given baserunner was stranded first by one batter, then by another. Are they calculating this stat in various ways - e.g., counting only runners stranded at the end of an inning?]
As per Jack Curry on twitter:
For those who asked, Yankees record for LOB in a 9-inning game is 20 against the Red Sox on 9/21/56. That’s also a major lg record
Yeah, sounds like they’re double/triple counting LOB by each batter. I’d assume they track it at the individual level and team level. So in a typical Yankees bases-loaded no-out situation, you’d have A-Rod, Cano and Teixeira each leaving 3 men on base, but as a team they’d only have left 3 on base.
Just got back from the game - lots of men left of base - but CC looked good, and that cures a lot of problems. Too bad he can only pitch once every 5 days. Also big thumbs down to the crowd for whipping out the triple decker wave (including the moat seats) that made several trips around the stadium during the middle innings. Stupid weekend crowd….
Too bad he can only pitch once every 5 days.
Milwaukee didn’t seem to think so, and that worked out pretty well for them.
Thank God for C.C.
Ibañez in the outfield reminds me of Bernie Williams circa 2005, which was just outrageous.
Iguana in the outfield reminds me of that kid in The Sandlot.
Too bad he can only pitch once every 5 days.
Milwaukee NYA in October 2009 didn’t seem to think so, and that worked out pretty well for them.
FTFY.
Iguana in the outfield is a vaudeville pratfall waiting to happen.
