Yankees.com: Pettitte tosses gem to earn first win since 2010
NEW YORK—The eyes that claim ownership of the most recognizable stare in Yankees history were flickering with intensity, even with seven zeroes already on the scoreboard. Andy Pettitte wasn’t done yet.
Needing few words to convey that his vintage form had returned, the left-hander completed eight scoreless innings for his first victory in 22 months as the Yankees defeated the Reds, 4-0, in the opener of Interleague Play on Friday night at Yankee Stadium.
“Big league W’s are precious,” Pettitte said. “It’s a good feeling any time you get a win. It’s what we’re playing for, to win games and help this team to win. I didn’t come back not to help us win. I just feel like I’m doing my job, really.”
I wasn’t able to see the game as I’ve been hopping flights all over North Carolina today. But apparently Andy looked good and gave this team something they desperately needed. Maybe I’ll just stay down here and they can rip off a few more wins. Actually, in a couple of days I will be leaving the country for a week, so expect the Yankees to take over first place by Thursday.

Jonathan pulling an Eduardo Saverin?
BattleCat didn’t just look good, he looked great. Pinpoint control, all his pitches working, changing speeds, and only battling when Stewart decided to drop strike 3 and then throw the ball into the stands along the 1B line.
Even when Binder tried to leave him in one inning too long, he excelled despite velocity dropping to 86 on his fastball (110+ pitches in.)
I know the Reds are a AAAA team, but they have some dangerous hitters. BattleCat made Votto look foolish a couple times, including runner on 3rd with one out in the first inning with a soul-crushing K. I don’t think the other SP have informed him yet that you have to fall behind within the first 6 outs or it’s not an official Yankees’ game.
Now the Yankee offense, until the 9th inning when Baker left some dirty hippie in one inning too long, looked like Veras all night. Why is this team allergic to scoring runs?
You know, I was trying to come up with an appropriate perjorative for Arroyo last night, and I just couldn’t match the poetry of “some dirty hippie”. Which is odd, since I had to drive through downtown Portland yesterday, so it should have been top of mind. Bravo, Ted.
I took my daughter to a Dodgers game a couple weeks ago vs the Nats, and one of their guys has long hair, can’t remember who. I yelled “get a haircut, hippie!” which prompted my daughter to do it to every player. Also, no matter how many times I explained that we weren’t watching the Yankees, she kept chanting “De-rek Je-ter.”
Also, are we going to have hidden game threads from now on, because the Yankees won last night?
Schilling = Bankrupt! bwa ha ha ha
