There are so many good movie jokes regarding Freddy.
Bring me the head of Freddy Garcia…
Take Fredo out for a ride in the fishing boat…
Anything involving The Rock…
Also, I would like to take advantage of being the only one here to once again float my “Comments link at the top of the post” idea.
Pin’s argument about Pitch-FX & catchers is compelling.
The only caveat I’d add is that it may take a heaping load of evidence to get the umpires out of calling balls and strikes, and if this helps with that, I’m all for it.
I would say Selig finally having a stake driven through his vampire heart would go a long way towards robot umpires.
It less of an argument than it was a rant. But the elephant in the room, which the article never acknowledges, is that PitchFx and now ControlFx, are outright indictments of human umpires for calling balls and strikes.
HWFG.
Game winning run coming in 5…4…3…2…
At this point I’m happy when Freddie only gives up 2 runs a inning.
Phelps warming up yet?
[8] There goes that down the Garcia.
D.F.Fucking.A. him, right now.
Seriously. Go to a 4 man rotation now. Now.
Maybe Pettitte will bring Clemens out of retirement?
Other than the 3 run bomb, with 2 outs on an 0-2 count, Garcia looked like he had great stuff!
Unfortunately, robots calling balls and strikes will never happen.
IIRC, The already agreed upon expansion of instant replays had been postponed to 2013 because they couldn’t agree on the compensation for the umpires. Now imagine what the compensation would look like if that would be taken away.
And Jesus do the Yankees suck.
He strikes out the side !!! Whew ! Great stuff. What we’re needing is a strikeout specialist ! Yeah, baby ! Stuff. Stuff. Stuff.
How many people with reach base against Smyly during his complete game victory:
a) 0
b) 0
C) 0
d) 0
Jeter now hitting under .400 - we are screwed.
Is the Jeter hot streak over? Did Verlander ruin him?
Can we trade Freddy and Melky to the Mariners for Felix ?
I’ll take C, just because it’s capitalized for some reason.
Good Boy!
It’s gotta be tiresome to try to climb out of a hole every single night.
One year contract for Swisher every year from here on out.
That doesn’t count as reaching base because he didn’t stay on one base and we already know HR’s kill potential rallies.
[24] Seriously. Even if they have to go one year $30M each season, he’ll produce.
postponed to 2013 because they couldn’t agree on the compensation for the umpires
Ah. Herein lies the beauty of going to robot umpires. How would that negotiation go ?
Umpire Representative: Well now, if you eliminate the umpires, how will we be compensated ?
Pin Representative: {burp} eh, you won’t. You’re all fired.
UR: Yes, but the umpires you bring in to replace the ones your firing…
PR: No compensation. No replacements. Bugger off.
UR: This is an important labor dispute. We’ll strike if you do this. You won’t be able to hold a game without umpires.
PR: You’re not listening. We’re going with no umpires at all. That’s our intent. We don’t need you anymore. Any of you. All of you. You can’t strike from a job that doesn’t exist anymore.
UR: My membership won’t stand for it. They’ll picket.
{At this point a trap door in front of my desk opens up, swalling the UR whole and sending him down a flaming slide towards the rotating knives}
Maybe they can salvage a labrum from Freddy and put it in Pineda. You know, just kind of parts him out. It seems like the best move to get some value there.
Freddy Garcia is essentially a batting practice pitching machine.
I don’t know how anybody could’ve expected Garcia to do any better than this against this offense.
Just forfeit
Can you smell what The Rock just left steaming on the carpet?
I doubt we see Garcia pitching in pinstripes again.
I’m so glad they didn’t skip his start.
Colon era+ 155, Garcia 48 and getting worse. So we can’t blame Cash for the Pineda trade or resigning Garcia or can we. I imagine Colon is only good for a half year but that beats the hell out of worthless. Enough bad decisiions become statistically significant. How much would Colon have cost. Could he have signed both like last year.
I’d like to begin panicking about our starting pitching.
Hughes and Fredo. How many last place teams have worse 4 and 5s?
Yeah. Garcia is done, isn’t he?
The German battleship Bismarck was severely damaged by WWI-era bi-planes because they were so old and flew so slowly, the German WWII anti-aircraft fire control radars couldn’t adjust to target and kept firing too far ahead of the planes.
That must be the binder’s strategy for why Garcia is still out there throwing 84 mph heat to major league batters, and explains the 3 K’s in the first inning.
I disagree with the whole strategy of trading runs for outs starting in the first inning.
Wasn’t Garcia shot at the end of the season and the playoffs last year too? I mean, not this bad - this is bordering on Wang ‘09 April bad at this point. Who would be next to start (other than Andy in for Hughes of course)? CC, Kuroda, Nova, Andy, ???
I love that tickets for today’s game on Stubhub were noticeably cheaper than other games. The Fredo Effect!
Other than giving up 6 runs whilst only recording 5 outs, I thought Garcia had great stuff!
Remember when we were worried about the logjam of starting pitching?
The bullpen is going to be spent by May.
#40 - Phelps and Hughes swap spots?
Remember when FREDDY was complaining about the indignity of being promised a rotation spot and then they sign Pettitte ?
Or did he not complain, just others complained on his behalf ?
Drew Smyly is the dumbest fucking name in history.
oh Mo.. six runs?
[46] I think others were complaining, but we can blame him anyways.
Nice .732 OPS there, Tex.
Remember when we were worried about the logjam of starting pitching?
Remember when some here were worried about Freddy’s feelings being hurt if he wasn’t allowed to start?
Edit - Pin beat me to it
He, no joke. Yankees are selling garden gnomes. I hope they all have Pedrioa heads on them.
I’m excited for 2013. Should be interesting to see how CC and Nova do in the two man rotation.
Wasn’t Garcia shot at the end of the season
If only.
Jon, don’t forget that Betances and Banuelos will be ready to walk 6 guys per 9 innings next year.
Edit: Fredo gave up 15 ER in 18.1 IP last September/October
Ha Ha ! They do ! They really do ! It even has gritty facial hair !!
It was too much to hope for !
[54] Freddy would kill to pitch that well now.
That was a pretty piss-poor bottom of the second against Smyly.
Rapada to the rotation!
Isn’t there some journeyman vet innings eater they can sign for a pittance and take a flyer on? A 2012 version of The Frying Dutchman? What is Kevin Appier up to?
What about taking some of Barry Zito’s contract of the Giant’s hands?
Are the 5 best pitchers on the Yankees all in the bullpen?
[54] This has probably been complained about elsewhere already, but I am pretty concerned about it. It’s early but you probably can’t count on Andy, Kuroda, Pinata, Hughes, Banuelos, Betances, or Fredo to be a realistic option for next year’s rotation. Maybe one of the kids is a #5 in 2013.
So…what does Cashman do? He pretty much needs to acquire a reliable #2/#3 at the very least, right?
Why can’t we develop pitchers like Ian Kennedy?
I think you could pretty easily convince me that Cashman doesn’t really know what he’s doing. When was the last time the Yankees had a decent 4-man rotation going into the playoffs? In 2009 they might not win without the off-days.
Scary thought this team could use AJ big time. I still wonder why Fredo not Bart?
Fun game to play during this loss, name you 10 least favorite Yankees currently on the roster -
1) Garcia
2) Hughes
3) Garcia
4) Hughes
5) Garcia
6) Hughes
7) Garcia
8) Hughes
9) Iganez
10) Nunez
1) has to be Tex.
Or Jones.
Anyone with a lightening bolt, there’s no link to this thread from the home page, just the prior story.
Probably just as well.
If Pettitte is stretched out to 85 pitches now, is there any sane reason you don’t just bring him up now ? 5 innings of Andy before you go to Phelps is way better than 1.1 of Garcia.
Alex Rodriguez credited a morning session with hitting coach Kevin Long as a key to his success in Friday’s 7-6 victory over the Tigers…“We figured out a few things and hopefully we can keep riding that,” Rodriguez said.
See what the Centaur did there.
I think it’s time we started looking on the bright side of things.
1) We aren’t getting swept at home.
2) We didn’t get shut out today.
3) We’re getting used to being terrible, which is a good thing given the austerity program we’re on. May as well get used to it now.
[68] From what I read, they are having him make one more start of 90-95 pitches then he is likely up after that. That next start is Monday, so he could be ready to start in the bigs by next Saturday.
Only problem is Garcia and Hughes are each scheduled to pitch once before that. Phelps for one of them, but not sure what they do with the other? Maybe have Hughes and Garcia both pitch and see if they can allow 30 runs combined?
Gardner was scheduled to take dry swings and swings off a tee on Saturday. He has been on the disabled list since April 19 and believes he could be activated on May 3, the first day he would be eligible to come off the DL.
Maybe only four more games of lazy Andruuuu and Iganez patrolling LF.
#BrightSide
Why couldn’t Tex tear his labrum?
which is a good thing given the austerity program we’re on
From what I have read, they just need to get under the $189M threshold in 2014, and then every 3 or 4 years after that to remove the harshness of the luxury tax penalties. But they do seem hellbent on doing it in 2014 based on the lack of pursuit of CJ Wilson and Yu Darvish.
They can probably patchwork holes in the 2013 team by overpaying on one year deals, but 2014 isn’t going to be pretty.
Granderson is so not in this team’s plans going forward.
First, he doesn’t suck. Second, he will cost money.
Every time he hits a home run he’s saying “Trade Me”.
Swisher wants a new contract somewhere else, too.
shut down by some clown named Guy Smiley and another Garcia stinkbomb—thankfully I had errands to run….Swish is gonna get $$$ from somebody with all these statpadding shots he keeps hittin…..
Why swing on 2-0 Teix when you aren’t even close to being the tying run
I can’t wait for Swisher’s October swoon and the Yankees using those 5 games as the “justification” to let him walk.
I wish we had 2000 vintage Glenallen Hill to send up right now.
Come on guys, you’re missing the CT!
C to the T…...
I knew how it was going to work out anyway.
Any word from Joe or Cash on Fredo’s future (hint IMO its in the past)?
[85] No word, but as I mentioned above, BattleCat could be with the club and ready to start by next Saturday.
Hughes’ next start is scheduled for Tuesday and Garcia’s is Thursday.
Phelps could take one of those, but who takes the other?
(85) I’d bet he’s done. He’s worse than Hughes.
I would guess that Hughes makes his next start, and bet anything that Fredo doesn’t.
Townies pitching gets better, ours not exactly
