Spiders.com: Garcia, Ichiro lead Yanks to win over Jays
TORONTO—Freddy Garcia turned in another strong performance and was backed by a collective effort by his offense—including five RBIs from Ichiro Suzuki—that helped guide the Yankees to a 10-4 win over the Blue Jays in the first of a three-game set at Rogers Centre on Friday.
When the worst team in baseball history regresses back towards their mean it’s going to be ugly.
Comments
Just back from the Pirates v Padres game. Pirates easily topped any Yankee entries for “worst loss of the year”.
A .129 team like the spiders has a 0.2% chance at a three game winning streak and 0.03% chance at a four game winning streak, although I guess since they’ve already won three straight they’re 12.9% to make it four.
Nice to have an otf drive-by in the game thread. Also, three in a row is not to be sneezed at, as giorgio demonstrates.
Speaking of spiders, I discovered and killed a brown widow in the back yard. Life for my daughter has now become a fun game of arachnid roulette.
[3] If I reported doing that, Dr. Mrs. Rilkefan would have the family packed and moved into a motel in about 5 minutes.
3 one of the many reasons I could not survive outside of a big city. The occasional water bug is bad enough.
Thanks to the Toronto injuries there is still a doormat in the AL East—even with the O’s rising to respectability (mediocrity, really, as I think we’ll see in time).
regression to the mean is a fallacy ... just like this team.
[4] All the bad things in horror movies take place at a motel. I’m not going to look up spider movies, as I’ll just assume they followed the formula.
Even film producers have a binder.

[3] Interesting fact: Brown widows are invasively displacing black widows in much of Southern California.
[9] Case in point, my back yard—though I’d never seen a black widow before.
[4] Wife was there, couldn’t keep it secret.
