Jayson Nix SS
Ichiro Suzuki LF

Over his last five innings, Jon Lester has been arguably the most dominant pitcher in baseball, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out 11.  While David Phelps has pitched pretty well this year, his last start was the longest outing of his brief MLB career.  He should be able to go to about 90 pitches today, which means he may get through the third against Boston’s lethal lineup.

Realistically, the Yankees’ only hope of winning this game is if Boston makes some errors and the bullpen can pitch six shutout innings after Phelps is pulled.

Lovin’ the Ciriaco nicks.

Perennial Cy Young candidate vs unproved rookie well below Betances and Banuelos on depth chart.

OMG just saw Andruw batting cleanup and the mighty Casey fifth.  Miss Arod much against lefties?

Has Granderson’s reinvention vs. lefties foundered? He’s not a better choice than Joenzz for cleanup?

This season Andruw v. Lefties 95 wrc+, Granderson 110.  Last season both at 151…

Girardi floating the idea of Teix possibly needing a DL stint if the wrist doesn’t get better in a couple of days.

If Phelps can pitch like Hughes did yesterday in the innings in which he pitched well then we have a shot at only losing by a run or two.

If that’s not a house money lineup, I don’t know what is. Get well soon, Teix and Arod!

This is getting ridiculous.g

“If Phelps can pitch like Hughes,” indeed!

Nine of ten times two runs are more then enough for Lester.

Perfecto gone

So far, not so good

Although we may be able to do some damage if nobody swings.

There are the two Yankee base runners for tonight. Might as well start drinking now.

great AB there by Robbie

“There is no more dominant pull hitter, in the American League, than Andruw Jones”

Other than Teixeira, who is physically incapable of hitting the ball the other way.

Fizzled in an effing hurry.  Yuk.  How will this team every beat a team that has a lefty with a pulse WO Arod and Tex

If Phelps can keep Ciriaco in the park, I’ll consider it a job well done.

Bam Bam Ciriaco strikes again!

the joke of ciriaco continues…

President Palmer needs to be assassinated.

haha. Nick Punto is unbelievably bad.

is it even possible for this line up to score 2 runs?

Way to get base runners and do nothing.  Blown DP call?

[26] He might have had his toe on the bag still when he caught it. I’ve seen way worse neighborhood plays regardless, so whatever.

is this offense even capable of hitting the ball out of the infield?

what’s the opposite of a wolf?

a kitten?

or maybe a baby turkey. family friends decided to raise a couple with their chickens. the turkeys are extra awkward.

robbies ABs today both terrible looking

[29] A chihuahua?

Cano also a lot worse this year vs lefties 225 point lower OPS then 2011.

Better hope we can get to Bard and Papelbon later

Phelps locating well with the fastball. Been brutal on the righties today.

Let’s say Phelpsie continues to pitch well while Nova-y continues to suck. Do you send Nova down when CC comes back?

we have any amazing ability to hit em where they are…

Phelpsie must have looked at this lineup and went WTF!

Grandy does not suck.

[39] That’s one way to hit ‘em where they ain’t!

Granderson! Just need a few dozen more solo shots today.

That was better than awful

Granderson sure Ks a lot.

Six solo shots in a row is, like, a lot.

37. Nova could conceivably lose his rotation spot in September. He just hasn’t had a very good year, unfortunately.

[47] Maybe for their next trick they can try hitting one with a guy on base….

is there a reason they can’t get this guy out?

Ciriaco and Punto. Of course.

pretty sure if punto scores its over with this lineup

I think it might be over regardless of whether Punto scores or not.

The run should count double when it’s given up to two hitters that shouldn’t even be in the major leagues.

Ciriaco 798 BA vs Yankees

Of course Tim McCarver is arguing run six is more important than run five in a 6-4 game. Of course he is.

I hate Andruw Jones. He doesn’t hustle at all, he is the worst OF in the game and doesn’t hit at all.

Phelpsie deserves better than this disgrace.

Jones is not a favorite for me either.

I would like to request that the Yankees be batting a reasonable percentage of the times I come back to look at GD.

Jesus Christ on a pogo stick.

[61] hahahaha

Joenzz has been better than I thought, but I’ve found him entirely antipathetic since he came up.
Soon he’ll be both antipathetic and pathetic. At the same time.
Like matter and antimatter.

Hughes+Nova for Ciriaco? Who hangs up first?

Does McCarver really think the Yanks would shut CC down ... to preserve his arm via a fake DL trip? Is that what I’m hearing here?

Ciriaco would be annoying the hell out of me if the Red Sox weren’t so cute with their 58 and 62 record.

“Why not put Strasburg on the disabled list… Sabathia’s on the disabled list…”  McCarver’s hurting my head.

And fuck this team not being able to get out Ciriaco.

Now they have Phelps all wound up worring about Pedrey Ciriackerson there on 1st.

[66] No. He thinks that’s what they are doing.

[66, 70]
It would be amazing if he were right. But that would violate all the laws of physics.
Also, it seems unlikely Gardner would need this much rest.

does Lester actually look good, or do we look bad?
(not sure which I’d prefer, but…..)

well, phelps deserved better, especially since its a given Logan let’s super ciriaco score.

What an outing for Phelps, he was outstanding today.

Was Phelps as good as GD made him look?

There’s an ad for Internet Explorer?!?!!!!

FOX was annoying me so much that I switched on the WEEI broadcast with TV on mute. Even Joe Castiglione is more bearable.

Wombat, Phelpsie was excellent.

Guys, I’m totally fine with the Ciriaco thing. The way he’s been completely taking over games against us lately, it’s like getting to watch a Mays or Mantle in their prime. How cool is that?

Page 3 is the rally page…

[64] Some things are their own antiparticles.  Maybe.

[80]
Not nice!!!!!!!

Granderson Ks a lot.

Looking at the contradictory quotes of SCOUT, I can see why teams would want to replace scouts with computer analyses of data… oh, wait…

So, who else thought Grandy would go 0-3 with 3 K’s today?

How will the Yankees fail to score this runner:

a. K looking, 5-3
b. 2 IF popups
c. 2 Ks
d. K, caught stealing home
e. Other

Good job Martin/Nix

I think that fly still keeps us on pace for (b). It would help if Ichiro keeps it between the mound and homeplate though.

certainly one of the more pathetic showings this season

We’ll be getting to pg. 3 any minute now, right?

TYMsRISPfail

How to turn a 5+ era pitcher into Koufax in 27 easy ABs.  Tomorrow Beckett morphs into Felix.

I’ve missed IBBs.

If you look past the results produced by this version of the Yankees lineup (which is temporary) Phelps and Granderson have both been very positive stories today.

If Yanks had any sense of humor, tomorrow would be a special joint KFC/Bud Light promo day.

Not that temporary.  Arod hasn’t swung a bat in a while and Tex may go on DL.

[97] It is, but only in the visitor’s clubhouse.

Win this one in a walk-off fashion
