Seems to me that losing the play-in game isn’t really any worse than losing in the DS.

It’s even better. They get to “make the playoffs” while we get to get all the frustration of the inevitable first round loss out of the way in one night instead of a week. We will be saving tons of time. Maybe some of us can even clean our houses.

Amazingly, this awful team is only half game out of the playoffs. Thanks, Corpse of Bud Selig!

This thread isn’t showing up on the mainpage.  Whatever.

This isn’t showing up on the main page. Probably not a big deal as I am likely the only one watching.

Also, I think I just saw BattleCat strike out 4 in the first inning all whilst battling.

Congrats to Bronson Arroyo on his first career perfecto!

Also, congrats to Miguel Cairo on his first career 4HR game!

38 year old DH Miguel Cairo.  Who could have predicted that?

[7] The National League, that’s who.

I have to leave soon, Ted.  You going to be okay in here by yourself?

3/42 productive AB my arse.

Two years ago Arods double woulda been in the bleachers

3/43 Swish

So frustrating.

3/44 eff productive outs

BattleCat!

I can’t believe how awful this team is right now.  Dwyane Wade?  Ready?  Shouldn’t he be losing games to the Pacers somewhere?

Speaking of Teixeira, his season reminds me of that scene in the Little Giants where everyone talks about how much they suck and how they “played sick” for the whole season just so they didn’t have to look miserable.  Yeah, I went there.  Little Giants references on May 18th.  Top THAT, ted.

[15] This season reminds me of watching People Under the Stairs at the age of 8. I am completely horrified, but can’t look away.

Reminds me of the Ali/Holmes fight

We got our daily alottment of runs.  Time to go to 4 corners.

I’d like to register a complaint

This looks promising.
(Unless people suddenly believe in “low run scoring environment.”)

Was that bases loaded no outs? 3/47 now? Truly pathetic, truly EFFING PATHETIC and Tex isnt even playing.  WOEest!

Maybe some of us can even clean our houses.

But then they would… NOT NOT be clean?

I dont think our self prevent offense
is such a good idea Binder

[22]
And without even the dubious benefit of a DP.

This offense is the Bizarro Dimaggio streak.  Do we lose on an error a/o a Soriano BS?

Merkel and Selig ordered Yankees to adopt an austerity offense of one/per.

If I’m Dusty, I order his pitcher to walk the bases loaded to start every inning. I see a series sweep and three no-hitters in a row for the Reds. Historic.

The offense has killed this blog.

Thank goodness there was no one on base so he could hit that one out…

Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to EVERY SINGLE EFFING ML PITCHER.

Oops Selig is pissed.  Shut up Flash.

That ball was hit pretty well.

Thank goodness there was no one on base…wait, what?

Iguana might make it to August at this rate.

I’m starting to like thie interleague play. It allows us to get the most out of our AAAA roster and rotation.

Yay some brilliant effen pitching!!!

Yay meaningless games ! Yay Goatboy ! Yay Iguana !

Yay seeing AJ Burnett in a Pirates cap !

Apologies needed from all those who came here last weekend to pronounce Andy’s career over.

[38]
It was ONE START!
Looks better after two, but still not a lot of velo, even for Andy, and… low run-sc… forget it.

Jesus, Jon, I apologized for ragging on Jeter.  How much do you want?

[38] Nobody said his career was over. We said he was cooked. He’ll probably still give us one more win and 7 losses before his career is actually over. Sheesh.

What, Pin, did you just successfully defend a dissertation… in complaining? In NOT cleaning the house?

No, I’ve just decided there’s money to be made in appendectomies.

I’m a Doctor in the, eh, Detroit sense.

Jon, I pretty much Fredo’d AP after/during game 6, 2001 WS. Dead to me. I thought he was still in Houston with his good ole buddy Rajah.

[43] I got that. The reference not the film.

So what’s the takeaway here? That there are three and a half fungible starters now, counting Kuroda, Hughes and Nova for half each? That’s enough for the playoffs.

Assuming they get to the playoffs.

... this is the year they add three more wildcards and stipulate they all have to come from the AL East, right?

[44] I remember telling Mrs. Dr. Pin, during a game in late 2007, to pay attention because she was probably watching Moose’s last game. He was washed up and that would be that.

Then 2008 happened. I really wish he had gotten to be part of 2009.

I will admit harboring a certain animous towards Goatboy when he R-U-N-N-O-F-T to Houston. Probably coulda had at least one more ring.

... this is the year they add three more wildcards and stipulate they all have to come from the AL East, right?

They’re going to do it like a PGA cut line. Townies and better records all in. Townies have the bye in the first 4 rounds and meet the survivor in the WS. All games played in Fenway. Visiting team still has to travel cross country between games 2 and 3, 5 and 6.

Isnt there a chance that a year off might freshen Andy’s arm?

@ bop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KX5jNnDMfxA

[49] He was hitting 88-90 on his FB for most of the game, although his cutter sometimes is a tiny bit slower. But plenty of separation from his 71 MPH curve that he was putting on the corners at will tonight. He did drop in velocity in the last 2 innings but that’s understandable

I was reminded of the 6 or 7 gutsy battlerific innings against Cleveland in ‘07 when the Yankees again only gave him 1 run and he just kept putting up zeros. His stuff was actually better tonight as he had to battle out with DPs all night that night. Just a similar situation with the Yankees on the ropes (down 0-1 in a 5 game series then and 3 straight loses while looking horrific now).

This time there were no midges and Torre to F things up.

I wasn’t a fan of him running off to Houston, but he came back and essentially played on year to year contracts instead of holding them up for max years and money. I don’t like his holier than thou image, but he ditched his family and came back for almost nothing this year.

Plus, game 5 in 96 holds a special place in my heart as it was the first time any of the teams I supported won a title.

Yay BattleCat! Yay Boooooooooooooone!

OTF Crafty lefties often age well and the HGH helps.

Anyhow OTF 50 I would have gone with the Jimmy Charles 1960 one hit wonder instead.

“I wasn’t a fan of him running off to Houston”

I thought at the time that that was on management.  Has new info come out that suggests otherwise?

I think management didnt quite push Andy but also didnt try to hard to keep him preferring Javy.  Hah!!

[54] I always thought it was on The Boss too, but some on here have been making it seem the other way. Anyways, I remember rumors of George trying to lowball him and never really liking BattleCat (remember he tried to force them to trade him at one point.)

Ironically, BattleCat blew out his arm in 04 and wouldn’t have been available in the cancelled ALCS anyways. Having him in 05 and 06 certainly would have helped though.
