I’d bet that’s the same lineup we see next Tuesday. Sorry Hicksie.

I may have to go in for jury duty on Tuesday. I swear to god if it’s dragging on past 3, I’m sending whoever is in the box to the chair just to get home in time.

I would start Hicks and Holliday in the postseason.

[2]  The best way to get out of being a juror is to come up with a reason why you have a conflict or personal situation that renders you unable to hear the case fairly.

Or… who was the pitcher with the palmball… Clay… Clay… Clay Parker, right?

[3] Right. Which is why I plan on stashing a Black Lives Matter T-shirt and a Confederate flag in the car for quick access, depending on the perp.

Getting back to rookies with 10 wins,  I am getting Ivan nova and Alfredo Aceves.

As to why some pitchers come here and stink -I am going with Yogi that 90% of the game is half mental.  If true, Expecting a GM to know this in advance is asking way too much.

I got picked for Grand Jury last summer it was 95 and the AC barely worked.  It was 3 hours a day for 4 weeks and you can not get out if you have a pulse. Fortunately they pick more than they needed and draw names and I got lucky and and dodged 3-1 against odds to be free for 4 years.

Jesus, how do you do that and hang onto a job? I get that they can’t fire you for jury duty, but it seems like it would cripple your wallet at the very least, with a tolerant employer. Or lead to some aggravating shit if you work for an asshole.

[6]  Repeating from the last thread…Tanaka.

8 I would’ve had to work Sundays, I usually work Saturdays anyhow, and after jury duty 2 or 3 times a week assuming I got the 9-12 shift and I’m never up before 10. If I had the 1-4 would’ve been worse. The first time I went on jury duty many years ago you had to stay 10 days no matter what. I was in jury selection and this asshole lawyer started giving us this pompous, condescending civics lesson. Afterwards they asked if anyone had any problems being neutral and being a wise ass at the time I said I was prejudiced against the lawyer because he was so pedantic.  Later I ran into the lawyer and he asked me what pedantic meant.

I was supposed to go down for that no matter what and agreed to go on a certain date and forgot and lots of time has gone by and nothing has happened.
Don’t know what the take-away is…

In CA you can postpone jury duty (twice maybe?) if you have a vacation or pressing work need, and you can indicate when you’re available.  I chose the week before Labor Day (this was civil court), figuring NOBODY would start a trial then.  Telephone system tells me I have to show up the Friday before the holiday and I figure now I’m screwed.  But when I arrived they handed me a piece of paper saying I’d completed my service and I turned around and left.

I’ve also heard that (again in CA) that if you’d rather not go, just throw the summons away and don’t respond.  If there’s ever an issue you can just say you didn’t receive it, which amazingly enough is a valid excuse.

In NY you can pick any date within 6 months and then are allowed 1 postponement, used to be 4. I liked to pick a Wednesday before a holiday and if you’re creative you can find a reason not to be chosen. If you say you work per diem a lot of judges will excuse you from a case. Grand jury is different there’s no getting out except by the luck of the draw.

In CA you can volunteer for civil grand juries, which I suppose gives the elderly something to do.

Last time I got a summons I got the flu something fierce and forgot to call in to see if I was needed. When I called them the next week they read me the riot act and made me reschedule. Apparently Nevada is more uptight about it than Cali.

Some of they guys in my office just throw out the original questionnaire.

My son in law just got a job with the DA which I figure gets me off the hook for a while.
Also I like police officers.

Judge doing Judge things.

Fifty is so mundane, now fifty one OTOH is cool.

There worse ways to start a game.

“Judge doing Judge things.” Not long ago that could have meant only striking out with RISP. This is… better.

Still time to get to 60.

I like good police officers and good teachers, bad police officers and bad teachers not so much.  I want accountabilty for both.

Starlin Castro, Zen Master of plate discipline.

Damn but Didi and Toe sure bring a lot of fun to that dugout.

Not that it matters but I wonder if Judge can get his avg. up to .300. Somehow I feel that would be important for his MVP case. And I really want him to win.

First MVP tie since ‘79 would not be an absurd outcome. Or does the BBWAA mandate that there would have to be a runoff vote or something now in the event of a tie?

Boy that was a terrible send.

If the lead is down to 2 games heading into the final series the Red Sox will be feeling the heat big time.

Here’s a fun article about the Mets:

http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/sources-mets-owner-fred-wilpon-protected-terry-collins-from-getting-fired-1.14297441

I think Bird should probably be on the postseason roster.

[33] I will 1 Angry Man it.

Ramos has been hitting the ball hard against them.

Ol’ Postseason Momentum Sonny.

per fangraphs:

It’s not just that Judge is the least clutch among all qualified hitters this season. After some additional digging with my curiosity piqued, I found that he’s the least clutch hitter of all-time in a single season (dating back to 1974, at least, the first year for which WPA data is available).

Gray’s worst start as a Yankee. Yeesh.

I don’t mind giving Holder a shot, but he’s looked like shit. Maybe take him out?

Why was Holder even in this game?

This is embarrassing. Maybe unclutch Judge can get up and pull them back a couple closer.

This is a fucking disgrace.

And the inning isn’t even over yet!

Probably the worst inning in Yankees history since at least 1964, right?

Still, the way they’ve been hitting I didn’t think they’d stop at 4 runs today.

Yikes, Sanchez just got hit in the shoulder/back.

Alright you mutt, let’s not bang up the Kraken before Tuesday.

He’s still in the game, so it can’t be so bad.

How does someone who looks so bad at the plate hit .300?

[52]  I feel like guys often stay in to run, then leave because they start to feel it while standing on the bases.  Fingers crossed.

Banged up shoulder/backs don’t seem to be as scary as stuff like elbows, wrists, etc.

[55]
Brian with the triple Axel, double Lutz backwards and upside-down antijinx.

I don’t think Shreeve should be on the postseason roster.

Holy shit I leave for 45 minutes to watch an old Justified and this shit. Effing Sonny Gray this is worrisome and this is on him but Heller is much better than Holder as I said last time so why was he in here, did Binder not learn? Meanwhile the inconsistency of Gray and Tanaka does not augur well.

This one seems to have gotten away from us

Does Girardi even care about this game? Bringing in holder and Shreveport?

Let’s see if the Yankees can make a townie style comeback for once.

I don’t mind so much bringing in Shreve as Holder. Heller has looked OK and why not Garcia or Kahnle.  Try to keep it close.

When’s the last time this team came back from more than 2 runs from the 5th inning on?

This is why one game playoffs are stupid. Anything can happen in one game. Stupid.

[64]
But don’t you understand? Stupid is exciting!

[17] Works with federal court in New York. Won’t work with Westchester County though, they are a persistent PITA, or they were a few years ago.

I have the game on both my phone and TV, because I’m walking back and forth in the house.  Different commercials on each device. Weird.

Not even a mini CT. I know this is simplistic and then some but it seems like once they lose the lead they seem to lose interest.  Teams that never come back don’t go far.

[68] One and done?

Blessing in disguise? At least it all but eliminates the scenario where the Yanks end Sunday tied for the division and have to play a one-game playoff vs. Sale. Game 163 is a lotta risk/reward.

One infield hit and one walk in the last 3 innings.

If we get by the Twinkies which won’t be easy, and how many times in a row can you eliminate the Twinkies, is CC next in line?

[70]
It’s a highly convincing disguise.

Stat padding Hicks.

Missed this one (fortunately) but why did Joe not bring in Kahnle to relieve Gray?  Holder seems like a throwing in the towel move doesn’t it?  Here I thought they were still going for the division.  Heck, even Green should have been available (1/3 of an inning yesterday).

I don’t think he plans to do anything chasing the division that would put the WC game at risk. Probably wise.

Right, so ... why not Kahnle?

Anyone other than Holder or Mitchell would’ve been a better choice.  Kahnle seemed like the natural choice, Heller’s looked good, Green for a hitter, even Shreve or Garcia.
