Good to see Bird back. I also like that they’re not throwing him back into the top of the order. Just in case that there was an issue with pressure.

If Bird recovers, then you just send him to the #4 spot, move Judge up to #6, drop Castro to #7 and you’ve got yourself a reasonably good lineup, even without Sanchez, Didi or Gardner.

By the way, apparently Gardner is just day-to-day. He can play today even, if they need him. That’s good news.

Sanchezo? Sanchoz? Sonchez?

Good to see Bird come off his deathbed. Yeah, he was sick for 5 days, or covering for the ankle injury is more like it.

Judge made it all the way up to the 7 spot without Gardner! Somehow still behind Hicks and Castro though.

[2] Yeah bruised jaw and sore neck. It sounds like Weeks is mostly OK too. Lucky that both are essentially fine after a hit that hard.

Did Kap have TJS last year or was he just shut down for the year?

[1] I like having Judge as protection for a returning Bird. But I’d do it higher in the order. I don’t think Bird was pressing, I think he was hurt. And I think Judge is not going to change his approach based on where he is in the order.

FWIW, here’s the lineup I’d have liked to see today:

1) Holliday DH
2) Headley 3B
3) Bird 1B
4) Judge RF
5) Effsbury LF
6) Castro 2B
7) Hicks LF
8) Romine C
9) Torreyes SS

When Sanchez returns, I’d put him at 5, dropping Effsbury/Gardner/Hicks to 7/9 and moving Torreyes up to 8. When Didi returns, he’d fit in at 6, followed by Castro and two of Gardner/Hicks/Effsbury at 7/8/9 (in whatever way optimizes the lineup’s L/R sequence).

[8] Torreyes should be higher in the order. Torreyes should be ALL the spots in the order.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Torreyes, particularly as protection for Judge. Maybe I shoulda swapped Toe and TRO.

[7] He was shut down.

OT   Eli the dumb.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning was in on a scheme to sell phony game-worn gear — sending an email asking the team’s equipment manager for “helmets that can pass as game used,” according to blockbuster court papers obtained by The Post.

The legal filing also alleges that Big Blue failed to produce the smoking-gun request — sent from Manning’s old-school AOL account to an official NFL account — even though “they claim to have no document destruction policy.”

But Manning turned over the incriminating email last week in connection with a civil racketeering suit that accuses him, his team and others of conspiring to fleece collectors of authentic athletic uniforms worn on the playing field.

Manning’s email is contained in a pair of exchanges that allegedly began when his marketing agent, Alan Zucker, asked Manning to supply “2 game used helmets and 2 game used jerseys” as per the two-time Super Bowl MVP’s contract with memorabilia dealer Steiner Sports.

1 hole =/= 5 hole.

The CoT just lit up like a goddamn Christmas tree.

Severino is throwing some serious heat.

Cash tends to have a good eye for other team’s talent, so maybe Hicks will become a real player.

How many groundballs does Severino need to get to start recording outs?

Jesus Sucre? The Rays ACTUALLY have a Sweet Jesus? That is tremendous.

These Yankee pitchers don’t seem to respond well to bad breaks. Luckily, Smith was overly aggressive.

Bird still looks off.

What do you know, Sevy looks like he’s learning how to pitch instead of throw…

Yeah, I guess they’re right, Smith was probably intentionally trying to make sure they didn’t throw home. I apologize, Smith, and I’m sorry you hurt yourself on the play!

[21] Bird Flu?

Castro still learning to hit.

[25] He’s a life-long-learner.

Giving up a home run to Bourjos is a negative indicator.

25 Flunked out

That’s the Hicks I remember.

[27] That was ungood.

9k through 6 is pretty, pretty good.

[31] HR allowed to Peter Bourjos is pretty, pretty bad.

Severino looking strong!

pitch 103: 97
pitch 104: 97

Yes, please.

At least Bird made some solid contact but offense looks woeful.

[35] I’m actually not super encouraged by that. He swung at the first pitch from a guy who has been pouring first pitch FB into the zone all day. He looked out of wack in his first AB and watched a fat fastball go by him to K in his second.

I still think Bird will hit, but he’s looking lost right now.

Dang Hicks! Really pushing for an everyday spot.

Wow Hixie making a liar out of me.

Leadoff walk ungood.

Hicks hasn’t been DFA’d yet?  WTH?

Betances… please.

From ungood to good.

Anybody remember Wetteland?

Betances needed the pressure.

He’s no Chapman or Miller or Mo, but Betances is up there when it comes to my faith in a guy getting out of a crazy jam.

I’m not saying Betances’ curve to Longoria made me aroused, but…

[45] Don’t forget Robertson.

Wait? What! Castro walks? Unpossible.

Severino’s performance is already a win. Love it when you’re rebuilding.

That was a nasty change.

Will I ever get tired of shots of normal sized people next to Judge?

No, no I will not.

The new Intentional Walk is the whackest thing ever. Remember when the home crowd could boo and then subsequently cheer the next hitter coming up? It was fun, it was dramatic. What a joke. Geeze!

[53] But now games will be about 15 seconds shorter.  Win!

•  Rutherford 0-2 with 3 BB’s.

•  Chance Adams with a decent outing.

Don’t forget Robertson.

Oh, good point. I always had faith in Robertson with the bases loaded.

I think Bird is done.  He should join Teixeira at the glue factory.

[57]  According to Waldling, Girardi said he has a bone bruise that may not heal for months.

[58] Paging Mark ‘bone bruise’ Texiera. Crackhead medical staff alert.

Yay win!

Over .500! Severino! Hicks!

I always liked hicks.

Great win! But Greg Bird, this is what its like when doves cry. Please start hitting.

[63] Did Girardo run out and hug him?

You guys, you guys !!

Tied for - wait for it - SECOND, with the ‘27 Townies !!!

Very enjoyable win against a .450 team. Me happy.

Any time we want to throw a pity party for ourselves, imagine being a Blue Jays fans right now. 1-8, best player hurt and playoff expectations hanging over their heads.

“Sweet Jesus”
That is awesome. (I’m still amazed that people were so unamazed at a pitcher with the great and terrible name of Grant Ball Four.)

“and playoff expectations hanging over their heads”
Way, way over their heads, apparently. (Ok, it’s not even ten games yet, but I just liked saying it, ok?)

[69] I tell everyone I know about how incredible that name is. No one seems even mildly interested.
