Sabermetrically aware baseball fans understand that W-L record is overrated. For example, did you know that there are 13 pitchers who are undefeated despite having a higher ERA than Jeff Niemann? That means Niemann’s effectively better than a theoretical undefeated pitcher, which makes him an even more difficult matchup than James Shields was yesterday.
Yankee win probability: -100.0%

Jeepers that Rays line up is so bad. If the Yankees had that line up they would scrore 650 runs or something. I can see the rays fluking their way to 850.
[1] Against a Yankees defense that refuses to shift, they might score 900 runs.
It’s not that the Yankees don’t shift. They just shift in the opposite direction of where they should.
I can see the rays fluking their way to 850.
But I could also see them floundering their way to 650.

You two should stop carping about the Rays run production.
Wise should be the everyday LF until Gardner returns. Which will hopefully be for the Seattle series.
How would you approach doing a chart showing in game win expectancy for a team that starts at -100%?
Did Zobrist lead off with a hit in that exact location yesterday?
[5] Stop? It’s the sole thing I can focus on. May you didn’t say “stop,” though. I can’t tell. I have a hard time herring.
I’m just glad that Phelps is not pitching for a rotation spot tonight.
Phelps is slow.
Everything going right for jeter
I am really enjoying HGH-era Jeter.
[9] Holy mackerel! I thought I’d just skate by with my comment, but now I’ve haddock with you guys. Shad you continue, I cod see my way to perching elsewhere.
You’re such a bass.
[15] I’d say that’s accurate, moray or less.
Holy shift!

How long can Teixeira be in the taco of the order? The hitter is barely a stale corn shell of his former self.
Swisher is like a new Dorito shell, not at all gross and worth the $1… I would guess because I’m so hungry right now. And he gets a hit!

Ok, Martin is going to bust out of his slump like a soggy mess of poutine through a cardboard bowl. And it will still be a good thing, this metaphor be damned.
IN Play OUT(S): The Russel Martin Story
Martin is pretty bad
feh
Come on, .400!!
Wise has a career .257 OBP. OBP!
We don’t have a kid in Triple AAA who can play the outfield and projects to, like, a .300 OBP or something??
Dickerson would definitely be a better option than Wise. But he’s out of options so they don’t want to risk losing him for a 2-3 week injury like Gardner’s.
Suck it BJ!
[24] After watching NunE, Iganez, and Andruuu play “defense” in LF, I will take anyone who can stand out there and catch the ball. Even if they are an automatic out at the plate.
Isn’t Teix like a .257 OBP as a LHH now? Maybe when TSBG is back, Wise can play some 1B against RHP.
How would you approach doing a chart showing in game win expectancy for a team that starts at -100%?
You don’t. It’s impossible for a team with a win expectancy of -100.0% to win so you’re better off thinking of things that can go into a pie chart.
We don’t have a kid in Triple AAA who can play the outfield and projects to, like, a .300 OBP or something??
There’s a young buck by the name of Jack Cust who could probably OBP .350 or so, but it’ll come with baserunning that makes Jorge Posada look like Rickey Henderson and defense that makes Raul Ibanez look like Gary Pettis.
That was quite the impressive offensive inning.
Yeah, I like Wise because of his excellent defense. I don’t mind that he’s an automatic out. He’s just a placeholder until Gardner returns.
[28] Wait til next inning with Teix due up. You ain’t see nothin’ yet.
Phelps’s velocity seems down today.
Does anyone else have GD not showing pitch speeds, locations, etc?
[31]
Perhaps if he doesn’t have the ominous “great stuff,” he can prevent the other team from scoring?
Great movement on his pitches though.
Does anyone else have GD not showing pitch speeds, locations, etc?
The power outage at the stadium may have messed with the data feed.
[32] Reports indicate power in the disgraceful press box is out. That would do it.
Teixeira’s been very valuable for Yankee fans in his role as bathroom break,
Shiftacular.
My mlb.tv works awesome on my Ipod and Ipad, shitty on my Droid.
Swisher making Tex look like a fool.
Maybe now the Yankees can sign Russell Martin for 4 years and $2M.
Swisher Every RHP making Tex look like a fool.
FTFY
Good thing they didn’t extend Martino
edit: Basically #41
Did the power go out again?
Do they really need to tell us not to attempt to climb out of our car on the freeway and jump onto a car carrier full of Audis?
[45] with cruise control, the crash might not happen until you are safely away in your new Audi.
Awesome things happening in KC.

[46]
So everyone’s cruise control is teh suck?
Is Robertson warmed?
These walks are really annoying.
Meh wins are overrated. Kid never really got stretched out properly. I think this start lasted longer than Garcia’s did combined.

Logan’s been really good… but I agree with [51]. We didn’t even mention Hughes. or AJ for that matter.
Big Boone Logan fan.
Good job by Logan.
Sorry I’m late for the game. I hadda do some housework before my wife gets pissed off about this dirty house.
What’d I miss ?
Boooooooooone !!!
that was an absurdly high leverage situation for Boone Logan…
That was some clutch pitching
that was an absurdly high leverage situation for Boone Logan…
Probably the best move given the options. What would you have done differently?
My wife is at a poetry reading so I can watch the game.
I hope they’re not done scoring tonight.
Dear inept Yankee offense,
Jeff Niemann is not this good. Please stop sucking.
-Jonathan
So, Devils or Rangers?
I would settle for a solo homer and two run lead. The Rays offense is putrid without Longo.
That inning sucked the fart out of an asshole.
Also if the Knicks need to get it within single digits by the end of the quarter.
58—Whenever two men are on get Robertson loose quickly just in case…..
Apparently the Yankee defensive positioning sucks as much as their shifts. That’s the second ground ball double to that exact spot in right center.
Wolverine is shreddin’ ‘em.
Wait, I thought we were supposed to IBB Sean Rodriguez with a base open?? Binder??
that was an absurdly high leverage situation for Boone Logan…
Logan against a LHH is probably the second best option out of the Yankees pen right now behind only Robertson against anyone. Who would you trust more in that spot? (Knowing the aren’t using Robertson in the 5th inning and they HAD to pull Phelps before he imploded) Sori? Wade? Scorpion King? Eppley? Mitchell? Rapada?
Not looking so good for the Raynjuhs….
NICE THROW CAPTAIN!
And a great call by the ump
Would they go to Robertson again?
[72] I was always on the past a diving Jeter, how many runs is he costing them side of things, but after watching NunE, Jeter’s defense seems worthy of those gold gloves.
Nor the Knicks, but that’s more expected.
[74] Why not score 5 more runs and not have to worry about it? Or have a downpour start right now?
Wait, why is there a Yankee player standing on a base?
Another reason ARod > Teix.
God, Tex is a piece of shit.
Tex’s OPS: .649
Wise: .633
That wuz fair!
Teix is the most fuckin’ cooked anyone has ever been. I hope a shark eats one of his limps.
That’s a triple with Ibanez in LF.
Non-awesome things happening in KC
When Gardner gets back, I hope they put Swish at 1B, Wise in RF. Just for a day vs. a righty. But Wise will probably get sent down.
silly tv voices, thinking the Yankees could get three save chances in three days.
83- Alomar and Vaughn. Belle with Ballamor. One Kevin something something with NYY.
Wade to the rotation.
Wade for the 8th. Can’t watch Soriano back to back days
Could be worse, we could have Pujols at 1B.
Mo on Robertson:
“He is capable to do that. We need to work on little things, but that’s minor; that’s things that we can fix. But you cannot fix heart. ... Robby is capable.”
What a cool fucking quote.
I swear, every quote out of Mo’s mouth is Zen-like.
I am going to predict that the Yankees do NOT score this inning.
That’s a triple with Ibanez in LF.
I said that out loud when he made the catch.
Any chance a Yankee gets on base this inning?
[92, 93] When gods speak…mortals listen.
Also, listening to Mo in the pre-game press conference: I love how he addresses everyone by name. It’s a nice personal touch - I bet the writers love it.
The fact that Wise has seen 3 pitches this PA already makes him an upgrade over Teix.
Carmelo Anthony is not really that good. Neither is Amare.
[95] On base, sure. Touches home plate, never again.
