Six times this year teams have tried to beat the Undefeated James Shields.  Six times, teams have failed to beat the undefeated James Shields.  He’s on pace to end the year 28-0, which would be the most wins ever by an undefeated pitcher.  Let me be the first to congratulate him on such an impressive accomplishment.

Ivan Nova is no James Shields.

Yankee win probability: -100.0%

Nice comeback by Nova. His FB command was way off, but his off speed stuff was unbelievable this inning

Can’t get a word in edgewise with you people here.

I am still trying to understand why all pitchers wouldn’t want to work fast. Why does Fuse take 30 minutes between pitches whilst Nova gets the ball and is already starting his motion for the next pitch?

Congrats to James Shields on his first career perfect game no hitter!

Rays say they have saved themselves 85 runs last year with shifts.

Edit - KLong saying the shift shouldn’t affect anyone except Teix and Teix isn’t capable of going the other way.

Well then, what was the F-ing point of all that bunt talk this offseason.

TBR might want to shift someone to stand beside the-shell-of-Molina if Shields plans on continuing to bounce pitches.

It’s annoying to see A-Rod and Cano gutlessly walk in order for Teix to make the last out.

Teix, why not bunt here?

Hmmmm, Teix popped up with runners on. What are the chances?

Tex has to be moved down in the lineup.

[7] They were just making sure the Yanks would clear the pitcher’s spot (still confused why they bat their worst hitter 5th) in the first inning.

Nova with 8 pitches to get through that inning, and he K’d two of them. He is the anti-Teix - doesn’t suck, in fact keeps getting better, and costs almost nothing.

Edit - At this point, I am just stat-padding my post totals. Is there anyone out there?

9 flied out

[13] In DNYS, anything is either a pop out or HR. That’s what Gammo told me.

What is with these loud ass home plate umps this year???

Somehow popping out to the warning track in in the spirit of DNYS.

Nova pitching good, but Shields has a no hitter going.

Ok, Shields still has a one hitter going on

TSBG is rehabbing at whatever location SWB is playing at tonight. 2-3 tonight with two singles. Supposedly, he will get another game with SWB (tomorrow?)

I wonder what hilarious stuff Molino was saying behind the plate…it clearly worked.

They’re talking about 8 straights for the Yankees in the 30s+40s, but as far as I knew the Yankees have never had a gay player.

And now ARod and Cano will walk and Teix will pop out.

I’m surprised they’re playing.  I’d have thought the Yankees would have conceded this one.

Maybe it’s time to call Nova up to the real team.

I predict Teixeira will make an out this inning.

Nova is pitching in an almost James Shieldsish fashion tonight.

Cano hits the ball as hard as anyone I’ve ever seen

Glad they are going to waste a great effort by Nova by simply refusing to score one run.

Best case scenario

Teixeira getting high fives for a weak grounder to first doesn’t fill me with warm fuzzies.

At this point we’re happy with productive outs from Teix, right?

31- oh yeah.

Good baserunning.  Why the hell did he send him?

I hate this team sometimes.

What a tragic waste.

I am stupefied.

Ibanez! Less terrible than Teixeira!

Igoneyez!

Didn’t expect that.

Shields at 73 pitches through 4. Nova at 41.

R. Pena could have done that.

I read an interesting piece on Ibanez recently. Definitely rooting for him - he seems like a really nice guy.

Come on Nova, two more outs.

Nova’s breaking stuff is outstanding tonight.

Starting to rain, let’s power through this half inning.

“I would be shocked if he’s a Yankee at the All Star Break.”

[47]
Explain, please - don’t have time to look it up!

Perfect sequence to Scott.

Edit - fastball just outside, change low and away for strike, get me over curve for strike two, fastball up and in to change the eye level, and low slider for the swinging K.

Both I-Men worthy of praise. Call this one after 5 innings.

You know Teixiera, if you’re going to hit like crap you need to make that play.

[48] That’s SG talking about Ibanez when we signed him.  Little did he know he’d be more productive than a guy making 22 million dollars.

[47]
Explain, please - don’t have time to look it up!

Looking Ahead to 2012 - Andruw Jones and Raul Ibanez.

Impressive 5 innings by Mr Nova. It is almost as if he doesn’t want to be sent down.

Come on Mother Nature!

Get the tarp on the field STAT!

And a taste of battling from Nova!

[52, 53]
Thanks!

Don’t think Grando thought that was gone when he hit it.

Outrageous, Cavalier!

woot!

Tarp now.

Yay Grandy!

My word, that hook was gorgeous. Hughes once threw a curve like that…

Uh WTF…

I swear Molina is hitting like .350 against the Yankees since they let him go.

That might be more surprising than seeing Ibanez on the roster post-ASG.

Jose Molina on an 0-2 count. Seems like a good time to give up a bomb.

Tarp NOW.

0-2 fb strike over the middle is an effen disgrace. In any league.

WTF was that 2-0 pitch?

Wow, it’s pouring. Maybe the ball slipped.

It was fun having Nova’s ERA under 5 for a few batters.

Thats how Tex pays the bills.

That DP was HUGE.

7 K, 1 BB for Nova

I think my xbox is broken. It’s displaying a game on the screen that has the Yankees ahead of the Undefeatable James Shields and Teix didn’t walk straight from homeplate to the dugout last inning.

Am I rewatching a game from 2009?

And again Nova’s ERA goes back above 5.

Second DNYS special tonight. Scott didn’t think it was gone either.

Why did they bring in Scary Flyball Guy?

I wonder if Girardi is even considering removing Nova before the 7th is over?

This stadium should be torn down. Like Freddy King.

TARP NOW.

Nova trying to demolish his FIP right now.

You know Joe, just because you no longer have an official 7th inning guy, you can still relieve the starter in the 7th.

Has anyone seen Nova’s wheels? They appear to have fallen off.

81- not until 30 seconds ago.

I will give Girardi some slack. Nova has been fairly awesome tonight, low pitch count, and a DNYS HR.

Well, this doesn’t have any chance of turning out poorly.

But he lost his command and has happened to him many times in his career

2 Robertson K’s would be nice.

Girardi’s slow hook is killing me.

Swish with two contract-year throws tonight

Trust in Nova, friends.

Can’t believe he did let him face Molino

file those insurance claims boys

Well, I’m glad Nova got out of it, but now Girardi will not have learned his lesson and will pull this crap again.

Well done I-man.

Wow, excellent wriggling off the hook there.

[94] with [89] I thought Soriano was coming in with one out and men at 2nd & 3rd.

Nova, however, is a stud.
