Ooooh, the Yankees have a better than -100% chance of winning the game.  I’m intrigued.

so I’m here…..anyone else?

I guess that could have been worse.

Apparently not.

Here’s hoping there’s some regression in the Texas ERA:FIP area starting this game.

[3] At least he did it efficiently, right?

Walking Nick

Is it May yet?

Way to move the runner over with the sac DP, Teix!

I stepped out for a minute; how did that run score?

Passed ball.

[9] Jeter went to third on a Teix double play then scored on a passed ball.

Catcher is afraid of Centaurs. Pissed his pants and let the ball through.

Yankee Centaur Mystique.

I think CC is going to be OK tonight.

I really, truly do.

Thames being the automatic platoon is silly.

Thames is becoming the definition of SSS luck.

6 in a row.  Niiiiiice.

0 walks, six SOs?

Oh, awesome, hitting Nick Johnson with a pitch - that is nothing to worry about, right?

I still think Tex should just bunt every at bat.

That was nothing short of retarded.

I’d love to see a complete game W for the big guy tonight.

Is that 45 pitches through 4? I hope Phil Hughes is watching this.

Ha, Alex, I get why everyone hates you.

[25]
Wha hoppin?

Can this qualify as a TYM for Thames, or is he already a TY since his first home run?

watching C.C. and his amazing FIP today, I’m thinking about the discussion in the previous post about how fangraphs bases WAR on FIP and not RA.  How do FIP zealouts (and I obviously believe it has HUGE merit, i’m just not convinced its flawless) reconcile guys like Vazquez, Mo, Glavine whose performance differs from FIP meaningfully and virtually every year?  Sorry for the tangent….

[26] It looked like MAYBE he faked getting hit on the foot on a ball in the dirt.

freaking mouse batteries.

Crawford scored from 2nd on an infield single.

Isn’t that one of those oddly rare circumstances?

It looked like it hit him to me.

Oh, also, thanks a lot Thames - k’ing with the bases loaded and no outs. Nice.

Suboptimal, but not sure what the hell Gardner would have done either in that spot.

One of those patented triples off a lefty would be nice.

[32]
Thames was heeding Earl Weaver’s famous advice.

The ump just royally screwed Wilson on strike three.

Remember Game 2 of the 2009 ALCS?

That just happened.

Yay, errors!!

rain starting to fall….ruh roh

Li’l prowess!

4-1 lead, maaaaaaaaaaybe they should hurry things up a bit and let CC get the top of the 5th over with so the game is an official game?

Granderson can’t be a 2-hole hitter if he can’t go 1st to 3rd on a single, right?

Yay cheap rally!

[32] Where did you think it hit A-Rod? It looked to me like it hit just past his front foot. I’ll admit to always being suspicious of guys who take off out of the box like that in questionable circumstances.

Hey Nick, go ahead and make out so we can get the fifth in.

Jeter hears your plea, Brian.  Jeter hears all.
But NJ just can’t help walking.

I guess we can’t ever ask Nick Johnson to hurry up. smile

Okay, CC, one-two-three and get a cheap win to follow a cheap rally!

Crawford scored from 2nd on an infield single.

Isn’t that one of those oddly rare circumstances?

I’d wager it happens mostly when balls are deflected by an infielder way out into foul territory (but not past the infield border), and with two outs.

Where did you think it hit A-Rod?

Yeah, on the back side of his front foot.

Barely hit him, but I think it hit him.

Two more, then let it pour.

Does anyone know what channel the Flyers vs Devils game is on? I’m unable to find it.

Nice K by CC.

LET IT RAIN!

Nicely done, CC.

The Devils are playing on the NHL network, I think, thurm, which sucks.

Swish gliding nicely.

[53] MSG+ for that game thurm.

You could stream it.

It’s nice having an ace.

I’m just checking, but wow.  Based on the box Sabathia seems worth two, possibly two and a half of the Red Sox aces.

Teix is digging an impressive hole.
Excavating, I should say.

[60]
You’re not rooting for the game the right way, fgas.

Thanks BC. I just wanted to check it out. I’m so out of the NHL these days I don’t even know if I have that channel.

Nordic Hurdling League?

Nasty Ho Liquor.

[62] Teach me to do better…

Don- MSG+ blacked out, NHL channel showing me highlights. Whatevs. The Pacific awaits.

Marcus Thames is a hitting machine.

Fgas, you knew what I meant, I think, no?

How often do white guys PR for black guys? Its gotta be somewhat rare.

[69]  WPete, sorry, no maybe my (first) Friday cocktail is hitting me harder than I realize.

[71] Less praise, more complaining.

Wait, Gardner just stole on a pitchout from a LHP?  How did that look in real life?

NHL channel showing me highlights.

Yeah, it’s totally ridiculous how they handle their stuff.

I just meant Red Sox = low budget, shoestring True Grut, doing it the right way.  Red Sox aces are real aces.
Yankees = CC = money, doesn’t really count.
You’re not rooting the Right Way.
Right?

[72] It’s funny because that that’s actually my default setting.  My daughter is going to have serious problems.

Absolutely right, Pete.

Noting that the rain isn’t stopping the game, the Yankees go back to scoring.

TVSBG just scored on a two-out GIDP.

By the way, how ridiculous was Orlando Hudson’s argument about race?

There obviously is prejudice out there, but the notion that Jermaine Dye and Gary Sheffield aren’t getting big money offers because of their race? Too silly.

[76]  Yeah, CC is too tall and fat to have Grit.  And black.

Who can name three black ballplayers commonly called “gritty”?

Did Jackie Robinson get any big contract offers this year?  Well, did he?
There you go!

Yay infield hit!

[82]
Jackie Robinson counts as 23579825798 gritty black ball players.

On-field delay?

I heard TUSBG was out on the base path by hitting himself with his own line-drive to 2nd.

Come on, Rangers, just take the loss!

It would be interesting to analyze money paid versus value as measured in advanced metrics and see if there is a difference by race.  My belief is that as far as money goes, baseball pays (and overpays) for talent, but I’d like to see a study.

[82] Figgins, Dwarfdoia, and…........Tony Taylor. Oh Babe Ruth and Monte Irvin.

For those wondering, TSCC scored on an infield single because one of the recently acquired Red Sox defensive standout (and truly, no snark meant) Adrian Beltre lost the ball in the light, and it got away from him.

Who can name three black ballplayers commonly called “gritty”?

It’s an interesting situation - yes, they’re never “gritty,” but they do often “play the right way,” unlike Hispanic players, who are neither “gritty” NOR “play the right way.”

Whites, of course, are “gritty” AND “play the right way”

What did O-Hud say?

That Jermaine Dye and Gary Sheffield being black is why they did not get big money offers this offseason (and presumably why he did not get any big money offers, either).

[82] Mickey Rivers, Bernie Williams, and a player to be edited in later.

[91] I am exposed to WAY TOO MUCH Angels baseball, and although the broadcasters and fans genuinely love all their guys, gritty/scrappy/gutty only gets applied to guys like Eckstein.  It’s hard to call this really perniciously racist, because they over-love modestly talented black and spanish guys too, but it’s interesting.

Bernie Williams, like Chone Figgins, is what Torii Hunter would call an “impostor.”

OTF, check out the pics I posted to the DRLYW FB group.

Maybe that’s just what the words mean - white, not power hitters, look like they put a lot of effort into every move on the field?

Bernie Williams, like Chone Figgins, is what Torii Hunter would call an “impostor.”

You mean he… dresses like an umpire and sits behind home plate ?

[97] Did I just join the wrong group?  I only see two pics.  But I’m bad at FB.
