Jeter before and after swing rejigger?  But can you please clarify what I’m looking at, I have a little trouble with heatmaps…so my guess is based on what I think I understand of them.

I’m going to say A-Rod vs RHP this year and A-Rod vs RHP in the past.

Jeter before and after swing rejigger?

Close. Right player. I guess it depends on when you consider he retooled.

But can you please clarify what I’m looking at, I have a little trouble with heatmaps

The maps show outcomes as determined by pitch placement.  So for the top map, he basically had no power outside of balls up and in.

ExpWOBA is a bit more complicated as it factors in all pitches seen by the batter, not just ones that determined the outcome of the PA (hence all the red around the edged where walks are more likely).  I generally don’t use it as much, but in this case it helps make the point for this player.

Close. Right player. I guess it depends on when you consider he retooled.

When he was on the DL last year.

Sorry, I meant A is 2011 before the injury, B is after, including this season.

Thanks for the explanation, that’s what I was thinking.  But I don’t get how he could have had such a high xWoba on pitches outside the zone…or still seems to have.

It’s nice to see a graphic illustration of where the opposite-filed power comes from.

Walks.

I’ve seen others use

Post All Star
After hitting 3,000

But I’ve heard him say he didn’t retool then.  He said he did it when he was on the DL.

[8]  “Walks.”

Duh.  Thank you.

Don’t HBP count towards OBA in its various forms ? I mean, with 40 games a year against TWN, there must be some sort of league adjustment factor, as well.

Derek is also 2 walks from 1000, also known as the DJ1K milestone, and 2 doubles from 500, (DJ.5K).

Interestingly he has 2 more doubles than walks this year.  Clearly this is proof that he’s lost his batting eye as he can’t draw a walk to save his life…

I think that’s the proper attitude to take when talking about the Captain on this site, right?

[11] Yes, that the proper attitude.

So Jeter worked with Gary Denbo to retool his swing…fire Kevin Long!

Player A is Jeter before breaking up with Minka Kelly, player B is Jeter after.

So for the top map, he basically had no power outside of balls up and in.

This supports my argument…..

Jeter was definitely hitting the ball harder post-DL/swing rework. The 3,000 hits wast a coincidence, but I’m sure it didn’t hurt to have that not weighing on his mind, also. It doesn’t have to be an either/or.

Derek Jeter is a cancer on the team. He is not a true leader (that was Posada), despite what all his teammates and coaches say. He is the most arrogant human being on the planet.

Are these pictures of Pineda’s two MRI’s? I’m confused.

OK, Player A is Jeter through the first 17 games of 2011.  Also known as the middle of the “Jeter is Cooked” era.

Player B is Jeter through the first 17 games of 2012, or the beggining of the “Zombie Jeter” era.

Hughes start tonight is giving me the feeling of impending doom.

[19] As in, the beginning of the end of Garcia as a starter?

[19] For the Rangers? I know what you mean.

I freely admit to being wrong about Jeter…unless he craters after a hot start.  Then I was right.

[23]
FG, it’s just like evaluating the Jesus trade.  We may have been wrong by results (and - wonderful!). But I still think we were right given the information available at the time.

Yes, there was nothing wrong about thinking Jeter was cooked in 2011.  2010 was a poor year, followed by another poor half year in 2011.  And 2008 wasn’t all that good either (2009 was great).  Mid-way through 2011, it was a stretch to say “but 2009!”

It really is great that he’s back.  This is what HOFers do.  They defy (entirely reasonable) expectations.

[23] My prediction on Jeter:

He finishes the year hitting .360, and leads the Yanks to AL East crown, but he loses the batting crown to ...
Ortiz, who finishes at .362 but skips the last game of the year because he can’t find his “eyedrops”.  This results in the Red Sox losing their last game and missing out on the last wild card to the Twins, as Josh Willingham finishes the year at .285 with 29 HRs and 139 RBIs.
Hamilton is in the running for the triple crown, hits 42 dingers but the pressure gets to him and he goes on a bender last weekend of the season.

And who wins the MVP come November?  The run producer Willingham

[26] - Even Mike K and I lost faith by the time he went on the DL.  I have no problem losing faith.

Some were just too gleeful about it.

Yeah, I never got the glee thing from supposed Yankee fans celebrating the demise of Jeter, and I hate him as much as anyone*.

*Not really.

There was a time i used to get excited for Hughes day.

Now I loathe Hughes day. I’m getting really irrational about him, I almost just want him to keep sucking so they’ll pull the plug on him and I’ll never have to suffer through another one of his lame ass annoying “well aside from the 5 ER in 3 innings there were some positives” starts again.

I know that’s mean, and I don’t really mean it. I just want him to be good, and he just isn’t.
