In his 12 starts prior to his last one, Tanaka had put up a 2.77 ERA and I thought he had a chance to end the year with an ERA under 4.  Unfortunately, he got blitzed last time out and that isn’t going to happen.  When he gets shelled today, even an ERA under 5 will be wishful thinking…

It’s worse when Boston has a win already in the books before first pitch gets thrown in NY.

This team will be lucky to get out of the WC round, they already threw away the division with 23 blown saves, 16-25 in one run games and an inability to get big hits.

Girardi must really hate Austin and his 1100 OPS against LHPs both here and in Scranton. Also 3/5 against Miley with a home run.  Yeah his success against LHP might be a small sample fluke but why not go with the hot hand and see if he fails?  Its all right there in the binder.

Clint Frazier has pictures of Girardo….

I’d like to see him play 1b and today and sit Head or Todd.

[2] It’s 3 1/2 with two weeks to play. Not exactly a Diamondbacks-vs-Dodgers deficit. I’ll hold on to my hopes of a couple of breaks either way getting them the division. It’s more fun than being resigned to fighting for the right to lose to the Indians, even if that’s the morning line favorite.

Miley’s got it tonight.

TRO OPS over 1000 this month.  So this will be a 15-2 win followed by a 2-1 loss tomorrow.

What team is this?

Could be 15-2 by the second.

Apparently they’re only allowed to score in one inning so they better tack on few more here in the first.

Sonny gray spotted in dugout crying “why not for me?”

11 7-6 O’s

Paulie with an interesting observation. I like how he talks hitting and Coney pitching.

Every g-ddamn game… score a bunch in one inning and then watch as the pitching staff gives it away. This is stupid. We’re the idiots who keep watching this slop and expecting different results night after night. I’m watching me some HBO.

15 Feel better now

Can we tell Judge every PA that the Yankees are up by 8?

Stat padder.

Holliday looks terrible. Any chance he doesn’t make the postseason roster?

Yes he does seem to do well when they are up by a lot of runs. But had he hit into a DP and the lose 7-6 we would say he stinks. So I will take the HR

None. Vet presence.

[21] You can tell the cultural zeitgeist is fraught and it’s seeping into every area of people’s lives when even veteran RLYW’ers start thinking “y’all complain too much.”

Stat padder vs. O’s.

Did Judge do something wrong there, too?

He is really good when the yanks are ahead by a lot

Judge is keeping the dream of 50 alive.

Remember when Judge did this every other day?

Deja Sunday Vu all over again.

I could get used to this.

But I won’t, of course.

You’ve noticed?

[26] To be fair, it was 6-1, and early in the game, when he hit the first one. And he owns the O’s. What will Buck do the next three games?

[30] little bit.

This is gonna look like a ST game here in an inning.

26 The whole team. Judge didn’t even play in yesterday’s offensive RISP shit show.

Ok so I don’t want to do this in full detail but, yes, Judge’s best split by run margin is when up by more than 4, when he has a 1.300 OPS.

But he also has a .960 OPS when the Yankees are behind, so let’s not let this narrative get out of hand.

[34]  Are there league numbers for those situations?  Like I would guess that in situations where a team is up by 5+, everyone’s OPS goes up.  At that point you’re pounding the other team and they probably dip into the back of the pen.

Dumbest headline ever:  “Yanks Among Those Interested In Ohtani.”  At the bargain price he’d command, which team ISN’T interested?

Do we own the tie breaker if we finish with the same record as BOS? I think yes.

Yesterday it was Clint and Romine then in the next inning Gary, Didi and Castro who shit the bed.

Yes. Why is Tanaka pitching?

34 Behind by how many?

(34) Let me get this straight. When the Yankees are up by four or more runs - which I guess means they’re facing pitchers that aren’t pitching very well otherwise how else would they be up four runs - Judge is hitting better than his overall line.

Late and close 218/378/385
Margin>4 370/480/901
High leverage 217/357/500
Low leverage 291/435/612

TO once again paraphrase Berman… Leggo Gallegos.

Did Mitchell pitch himself off the 40 man or was he already history?

Eric Kratz’s season quietly flying under the radar OPS 2500.

We might have to keep sh*tting on this during the game. This team obviously feels the heat of my contempt and performs better because of it.

Crazy win by the Indians to keep the streak going. They sit alone now in second place on the all-time list. Five more wins and they’ll own the record all by themselves.

Still hate Girardo. No need to have Tanaka pitch the 7th. Let Judge go for 3 in a row. I seriously am starting to hate this guy. But 14 games over! And Sanchez has the all time Yankee single season record for HRs by a catcher.

[51] And Sanchez missed several weeks of the season, plus the three game suspension.

Jay Bruce joined the Indians and they’re 31-5 since then. But the Yankees couldn’t dream of eating that $3 million left on his contract. Noooooo.

And they’re 20-3 while Miller was on the DL.

[53] Honest question, Brian. Are you really sad that Jay Bruce isn’t on the Yankees? Whose ABs would Jay Bruce be taking? Because, honestly, Clint Frazier looks pretty rough out there, and I’m more interested in seeing Clint Frazier.

[51] Tanaka should have been able to pitch through the 8th. He was in the low 70s late in the 6th.
