The second-best team in the AL East (after Tampa Bay) visits the Bronx for the start of the most important series ever.  If the Yankees get swept, their already microscopic lead in the division will shrink to a negligible 4.5 games.

So don’t get swept.

Today’s annoying split of the day.

Matt Wieters vs. the Yankees in 2012: 35 PA, .467/.543/.767, 1.310 OPS
Matt Wieters vs. everyone else in 2012: 337 PA, .215/.294/.374, .668 OPS

Does David Phelps has a 0.00 ERA in July? Why are we starting freddie? (I know it is too late for THIS game, but going forward…)

Gonzalez’s changeup looks like it’s going to be a problem.

Hey team this guy should be hit.  He’s not even a, lefty.  For better or worse its Freddy’s spoy in the rotation until he has a few clunkers.

The Shockmaster trying to keep that OBP over .300.

Man, it’s going to suck when Chavez explodes into a pile of unconnected, spring-loaded parts.

Chavez! Back Pain Incarnate!

You know what really is going to stink? Watching Ichiro play every day. Saying he is a shell of what he once was is an insult to shells.

Is that you Phil Hughes?

On 2nd thought Fredo

Girardi just loves playing Stewart, doesn’t he?

The Yankee combined OPS+ from their catchers is what -  60?

Kingman has not been good lately.  245 BA.

Paul you just lost a lot of points with me and I disliked Trump well before he became a political figure.  Forever!

[13] I’m enjoying Suzyn recount her fond memories of Lew Ford when he hit .300 for a while .. he was a pretty good hitter ... sigh ... did I ever tell you back in ought-4 we used wear an onion on our belt?  It was the fashion of the time ....

Scintillating showing by the offense so far against who? Time to watch Breaking Bad.

So, I see the offense has picked back up right where it has left off.

[14] Just the big yellow ones, though. Because of the war.

Ichiro sucks, but this is Cashman fault.

Wouldn’t a one-armed Gardner still be better?

Wonderful defense too. Good thing I recorded True Blood last night…

We are seeing the Iguana we feared all along.

The Yankees have a bad team right now. It’s not that they are playing bad, it’s just that Ibanez, Ichiro, Chavez, Stewart and Andruw suck. They are an old team, with lots of downside risks and a lot of injury risks.

Officially concerned

nice to see that Ichiro can’t throw these days either.

Sterling is hitting Ichiro leadoff and Jeter 2nd in his fantasy lineup.  Or did I mishear?

Why is Stewart playing for the first place Yankees?

Still owe one more, Raul.

Hooray for runs.

If Garcia pitches the sixth there should be an investigation. Nine hits and two “double plays” that were scalded. Melido Perez could have pitched better tonight.

Trade Ichiro? Maybe there’s another idiot like Cashman who thinks he’s not done.

Ok, who here is actually behind the @BinderGirardi Twitter feed?

[27] Agree.

[29] I just turned the game on and had the EXACT same thought.  Sounds like I’m glad I missed Fredo tonight.

Is Granderson ever going to be great again? I mean, like Austin Jackson?

Kingman strikes(out) again.

So….I missed the West Coast trip, and most of this weekend series - and I gotta ask…wha happened?  Can’t just be A-Rod being out.  I said I wouldn’t get concerned/panic until the lead got down to 5 games, and I’m sticking to that….for now.

Heart of the lineup looks good.

The O’s win every close game and the Yankees lose every close game, so this one is over.

Hopefully Cano didn’t hurt his wrist diving for that ball in Seattle. Been free falling since.

Wilson Betemit starts on my All “Used to be a Yankee” team. Which, in case you’re wondering, has a pretty good bullpen over the past two years and a lot of guys who can play first base.

This team sucks right now. Plain and simple.

[39] This team sucks, not only right now. But with Arod out and with Ichiro, Ibanez, Jones, Nix and Chavez playing on a daily basis this team will suck for a while.

God this team is boringly unwatchable

[40] They are asking people who used to be complete baseball players at a given position, but who are now one-dimensional, to play as if they were who they were 5+ years ago. Jones, Ibanez, Ichiro, hell even A-Rod before he got hurt.

Remember when DH was for a used-to-be player who could still hit but not field or throw anymore ? Now we have players who are only partially able to fill the DH role, and what’s worse, we’re running them out into the field.

We’re living in the past with this team.

This is going to be one epic collapse.

I see I missed a big fat pile of guano.  Four effing hits and a crap Fredo.  Townies about to be tail gating us.

Let’s be real though, this skid of 7 losses in 10 (soon to be 8 in 11) have all been close. Five of the losses have come by 1 run, and two losses have been by 2 runs. Yanks haven’t been playing great, but they’re one bad pitch here, one bloop hit there away from playing decent ball over the last couple weeks.

The starting pitching has been solid, though the cracks are finally starting to show in the pen.

This is not a great team by any stretch, but they’re not so bad.

Scratch that, Itchie !

Say it. Say it! Shout it!

I see Booney contributed also.  How do we give up so many two out runs.

“New York’s Rising Sun” -Sterling

One run loss pending?

I still would love to know why Girardi needs to play Stewart so much.

At least we’re going to get this one close.

I don’t believe this bullshit about Ichiro and Boggs could hit homers if they wanted to.

Crap, Tex is hurt

55 good question.  Manager’s new pet?

What happened to Tex?

Tex is hurt and the season is over.

What happened to Teixeira? Is this serious?

Yes, please, for those of us who have the volume turned off, what happened to Teix ?

Tex jammed his hand diving for a ball in the seventh.

I don’t think anything is broken. I think it was a day-to-day injury. I think they can get by with Swisher at 1st and Suzuki in right (with Jones in left).

Cano is rolling over everything.

Please just let the O’s score 10 runs in top 9th. Can’t take yet another goddamn 1 run loss.

Oh for thirteen for Cano.

Thirteen what?

Grandy (Kingman) 271 OBP over last 14 days and sparkling defense

Please just let the O’s score 10 runs in top 9th.

Chad Qualls is warming so you may get your wish.

271 what?

Phelps was doing fine, Joe. Stop with the overmanaging

Can’t leave Phelps in. He’s too good.

Haven’t watched any of the game up to now. Why Qualls?

The white flag has been raised with Qualls.

(73) Indeed. The quallsperience is gonna suck.

CANO IS PLAYING LIKE DOGSHIT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL

Sometimes Cano is too smooth.

Will they go 1-2-3 or will they strand the tying run on third with no outs?

Why Qualls?

I guess Girardi wanted to give him a nice send-off.

Yay, another 1 run loss!

Pelican beaks that are sanctified.

They sure do love the CTs, don’t they?

this is not going to end well

Pena’s not even getting to third

Gameday says Ibanez swung at two awful pitches?

6 fucking balls, Iguana. 6.

[88]

Swung at strike 3 on a pitch in dirt. But before it dove down, it was still a ball. Ball all the way.

90 Sure is making a habit of K’ing in close and late spots

GEGIDP now in order

Any chance we can win a close one?

[93] Three: Fat, slim, and none.

Chance?

Sure, there’s a chance.

Just not a good one.

Martin pop out to end the CT.

Nice AB Ichiro

Send Pena on first movement ? Only chance.
