OaklandAs.com: RHP Danny Farquhar claimed off waivers by the New York Yankees
OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s announced today that right-handed pitcher Danny Farquhar was claimed off waivers by the New York Yankees.
Farquhar was claimed off waivers by the A’s from Toronto June 9 and was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento that day.
I never heard of Farquhar, a right-handed reliever, but he seems like an interesting guy. According to this scouting report, he uses a different motion vs. righties (sidearm/submarine) than he does vs. lefties. His stuff is supposedly pretty good, but his control is not. Maybe the Yankees think they can get another Cody Eppley out of him or something.
I have no idea what corresponding roster move(s) is(are) coming to get him onto the 40 man roster, but I’d assume he’ll be stashed in the minors for now.
Comments
Now that the Sox have traded Shrek, there’s no one to oppose the prince.
Farquhar is a friend of a friend. I’ve never met him but it’s pretty cool we picked him up. I remember him getting bombed in his first cup of coffee against TWN last year but he had two other scoreless appearances.
Looks like the Yankees moved TSBG to the 60 day DL to make room for Farquhar.
Anyone else get the feeling that we’ll never see TSBG again?
[4] there’s always Old Timers Day
[5]
Actually, I’m going to Old Timers’ Day, as fate would have it.
[6] Me too. First time.
Brewers are talking about trading Greinke if they can’t agree to an extension soon. I can’t really think of anyone on the Yankees/in the system I wouldn’t trade for Greinke.
Pulled this out of a RAB article:
Robinson Cano has hit .333/.411/.714 in his last 45 games.
That’s a pretty awesome stretch of dominance for over 1/4 of a season.
[8] Can we insist they take Nun-E with the real prospects?
[9] We Cano is locked in, he is, other than maybe Hamilton, the best positional player in the AL. If only there were some drug they could give him to keep him locked in all the time.
[8] I would agree for sure if we could also get a 72 hour window - and successfully - sign Grienke to an extension. But for essentially a three month rental…I’d be hesitant to give up Williams, and would also have some reservations about ManBan (he may be critical if they’re going to get under $189M, and can’t guarantee Grienke staying), Sanchez, and Bichette. Which I know is most of the top talent, but for just a rental…if they’re serious about getting under 189M for a couple of years, they’re going to need to grow their own talent.
