NYDN: Yankees’ Hiroki Kuroda and Andy Pettitte won’t miss turn as they escape injury jam

Kuroda said though an interpreter that he still felt “a little bit of tightness” in his ankle area, but nothing that would prevent him from pitching.

Pettitte, who took a one-hopper off his left hand on Sunday, kept the hand wrapped during the team’s flight to Atlanta and overnight, keeping any swelling to a minimum.

“If it was a line drive, it probably would have been a lot worse,” Pettitte said. “I wasn’t too concerned about it last night; I knew it wasn’t broke, so I knew it was just a bruise and that I would be able to make my next start.”

You mean broken, right Andy?

In other injury news, David Robertson could rejoin the Yankees’ bullpen this weekend.  The pen’s been solid without their top two relievers.  Since Robertson went out on May 11 the bullpen’s thrown 59 innings and allowed 56 hits, 23 R, 20 ER, 5 HR, 21 BB and 55 K for an RA of 3.51, ERA of 3.05 and FIP of 3.31, but it’ll be nice to get Robertson back.

I hope the Dodgers go to the World Series. How cool would it be for Mattingly to run out to the third base line during intros at Game 1 in Yankee Stadium?

Why would the Tampa Bay Rays play their World Series home games in Yankee Stadium?  Is a hurricane going to take out the Trop?

Other then Banuelos, (elbow not serious hmmm?) do we have any potential major prospects above low A?

[4] Nope.  There are a few that could contribute: Corban Joseph, Musteliar, um ...

David Adams, if he can regain his stroke after his injury, could be a sleeper later this year.

[4] Depends on how you define major too.  Chase Whitley has a shot to be a very good reliever.  Maybe not closer but above-average setup man.  That has a lot of value.  I wouldn’t yet give up on Adam Warren being an average-ish SP.  Not really too much else right now, though a few other guys have been derailed by injuries (Dan Brewer) or could be late bloomers (one of the Almontes) that may be able to become average ML’ers.  Brett Marshall still has a lot of believers, though now looking more like #3 instead of #2 I think.

If you are looking for only guys with some “star” potential though, there isn’t much.  Some still believe Jospeh could hold down 2B in the majors and has enough bat that he could be an All Star. He’s still only 23.  And as above Brett Marshall if he either starts missing more bats or walking fewer, is still only 22 holding his own in AA.  Mostly though yes, it’s A+ and lower where the talent is.

Though hopefully before July is out 3 guys get promoted to Trenton - Segedin, Turley, and Murphy.  Segedin could make the majors by 2013 (September call up) if things go well.  Probably not more than 4th OF but a lot of people thought that about Gardner, too.  Turley probably a little longer because Yankees seem to want to take time with pitchers now, but 2014 possible.  Murphey tough to tell…602 OPS sucks, but he’s a catcher and it’s Tampa.  He’s also only 21 (just turned).  So…if he sticks at C (and from what I’ve read that’s a good possibility) and his bat rebounds to pre-Tampa levels, he could still be an above-average big leaguer.  But that’s a big IF right now.

Although if the Yankees are scared off by what Swisher could command on the open market, they’ll probably end up trading off what little talent they have in the minors for a cheaper cost-controlled OFer.

I rather sign Martin than Swisher

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

[7] Pretty sure if they trade to replace Swisher, they won’t overpay.  I.e. if they get a stopgap they won’t give up anything too valuable, but if they give up value they’ll get the OF equivalent of Pineda.

They already have the outfield equivalent of Pineda in Gardner. Good, young and not likely to play any time soon.

[11] You can’t have too many of that type of player.

Whomever they get, I’ll be disappointed.

[13]  That’s the spirit!

Maybe they can re-acquire Montero and see if he can play RF.

But all joking aside, I believe you are correct, Mike. Cashman appears to be taking the approach of only trading good prospects if he gets something top of the line in return (Granderson, Pineda, Vazquez - at the time he seemed top of the line).
