NY Post: Yankees interested in Ibanez
The Yankees have interest in lefty hitting Raul Ibanez, according to sources. Ibanez’s average dropped to .245 last season with the Phillies, but he hit 20 home runs and drove in 84 runs. Ibanez, who will turn 40 in June, has drawn interest from a number of clubs.
Ibanez recently had a productive workout with hitting guru Rudy Jaramillo and believes he has corrected flaws in his swing. Over the past six seasons, he averaged 24 home runs and 100 RBIs.
The Yankees are not expected to pursue Cuban defector Yoennis Cespedes.
When the Yankees are “not expected” to do something, they usually end up doing it.

Immediate reaction upon reading headline:
Please, for the love of Jesus, no.
Immediate reaction: where’s SG to tell me what to think?
i can never remember which one is Ibanez and which one is Shane Victorino. But I do know this, I don’t want either one on the Yankees.
A Russel Branyan and Andruw Jones platoon should be very good, they easily could combine for a .360 wOBA. That’s Montero like
Let me contemplate this under the branyan tree.
Ibanez’ role on the Yankees would be to take a few hundred at bats against righties away from Nunez and Jones and maybe take a few innings in the field away from Chris Dickerson. At the right price, that would be a plus. I wouldn’t mind having an aging DH to fill the gap until Laird or Bichette is ready to move Alex there permanently.
I could have substituted “Damon” or “Matsui” for “Ibanez” in the lead sentence.
Now I remember what SG told me to think. Basically it’s this: after Pena and Betemit, the remaining candidates are virtually interchangeable.
So here’s my opinion: after Pena and Betemit, the remaining DH candidates are virtually interchangeable.
Since Betemit isn’t around anymore I don’t really care at this point. Pena was never anything other than a long shot to begin with.
Isn’t Raul Ibanez a truly terrible defender? There’s that. I guess he wouldn’t play the field very much.
[4]The advantage of signing Branyan is that it might force Sterling to change his home run call for Russell Martin.
[10] Imagine if they ever go back to back though. The horror.
[11] The Muscles from Russells. Done.

Back to back triples would be worse. Hustle….
{10} branyon goes canyon?
Russell’s Athletic!
I hope that’s not already Sterling’s call for Martin. I have no idea what it actually is. Anyone?

39 years old. .707 .OPS last season at Citizen’s Bank Park. If they are going a route this uninspired, just sign Damon.

I agree. Damon brings some baserunning to the table, too.
I suspect the Yankees will make low-ball offers to a number of players including Ibanez and Damon.
Whoever takes it, gets to wear pinstripes in Tampa this spring.
Not a bad idea. If someone takes the $2M, hope they have one productive season left. If they don’t, DFA them by August.
Oswalt apparently going to sign with the Cards. Good. I didn’t want him signing with any of the Yankees’ AL competitors.
