NJ.com: Yankees, A.J. Burnett fall to Oakland Athletics, 4-3
NEW YORK — Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira held his pointer finger just apart from his thumb in an attempt to illustrate how narrowly the barrel of his bat missed a cut fastball that could have won the game in the ninth inning today.
Oakland closer Andrew Bailey, a Haddon Township native, rarely throws the cutter, which is designed to zip back toward the hitter at the last second. It was just enough of a shift in movement to keep Teixeira from getting all of the ball, and rounding the bases with a three-run homer.
Whatever.
I am glad I chose to go see a matinee of Captain America instead of this game. Regardless of what happens tomorrow, I am going to guarantee two things.
1) Seattle will enter their series with the Yankees on Monday mired in a 15 game losing streak.
2) Seattle will leave that series with their losing streak over.

Betances’ era over 3, Banuelos’s close to 4 and Montero hitting under 280 with minimal power and yes I understand those are not the best metrics but they’re indicative and a mite depressing.
More importantly, how was the Cap movie? I didn’t think I could be more excited for it until that leaked Avengers trailer showed up on Monday.
More importantly, how was the Cap movie?
I’ll preface this by saying that :
a) I have never read a comic book. I’ve glanced at a page or two but that’s about it.
b) I have not seen a comic book movie in the theater since the Batman movie that had the Penguin and Catwoman and Mr. Freeze or whatever. That was what, 20 years ago?
c) The only thing I knew about the Captain America character was that he wore a stupid outfit and had a shield, and he had a theme song that said something about what would happen when he threw that shield
I liked it. Since I had no idea about what Captain America was, I appreciated the fact that it was an origin story and didn’t really assume any prior knowledge of the character. I also thought they did well with representing the time period in which it took place, and the action was pretty cool. The three people I saw it with all liked it, and they’re more into comic book crap than me(they’d all seen Iron Man, etc.,) FWIW.
Betances’ era over 3
I had trouble figuring out how to parse the “3” into this line.
I guess I’m just stuck in a rut:
Jeter era over.
Posada era over.
Burnett era over.
Joba era over.
Hughes era over.
Townies briefly trailed. Dream on. Tried watching Dinner With Schmucks while working out, even as background it was unwatchable. The next blockbuster I see will be Fincher’s remake of Dragon Tattoo though SGs endorsement since he’s not a comic book fan might make me change my mind. I am a total Salander fanboy.
ESPN.com headline…
Olney: For Yankees, CC’s free agency looms
I laughed.

I liked Captain America as well, but thought it could have been much better. I don’t think it would have been Dark Knight level, but if they added another 15-30 minutes, they could have made it special. As it stands, I don’t think the overall story/plot/side stories are even close to developed. I mean, the major “twist” ***SPOILER ALERT*** is that the guy’s face peels off into some weird skeletal hell boy red face.
