MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees Have Some Interest In Rick Ankiel
The Yankees have some interest in picking up Rick Ankiel according to Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post (on Twitter). Earlier this week we heard that they didn’t have any interest in the outfielder, but Brett Gardner is out for the year with an elbow issue and Nick Swisher left last night’s game with a leg problem.
Lefty hitting OF who have some pop but can’t put up an OBP of .300 are always an area of need, aren’t they? Eh, as depth whatever.
Comments
The idea is to drive up the market price, increasing the value of your current assets, so you can leverage them into something with real value for later when the bubble bursts.
[1] Should the Yankees securitize Jones and Ibanez?
Would Ankiel be ahead of Swisher or Ibanez on the pitching depth chart?
but can’t put up an OBP of .300
Clearly he slots in better if he can catch.
