This is probably the last game of the Yankees’ season.  It was mostly fun while it lasted.

It was a fun season.  And next year could and should be better.  Imagine a healthy full season of Bird, among other things.

Just watched It Comes At Night not sure why all the terrible user reviews.  I thought it was quietly and subtly intense unlike for instance The Walking Dead.

1 It was a fun season but also an incredibly frustrating and annoying season.  So many blown saves and a depressing failure to win close games. Friday night was a perfect microcosm of what we’ve seen all year but magnified 100 fold by the significance of the game. They open a lead, the pen blows the lead and the offense stops scoring.  All that and a major blunder by the manager and a few other decisions that didn’t work out.

Big Qs - resign CC? Does Tanaka opt out? Can they trade an excess OF for value? Can we get a BUC who adds value? Can they fix betances?  But mostly we are in good shape.

What would you rather have: Good Tanaka show up tonight, Severino deal tomorrow and force a game 5 that ends in heartbreak? Or the Old Yeller routine today, and pull the Band-Aid?

For pride’s sake, I’d like to at least get one. Maybe two. Then we can bitch to infinity how Severinio should’ve closed out the upset series win after the Game 2 debacle. Gives it more pathos.

Having just had to put a dog down, I say end it quickly.

Gotta win one just because

I’ll take the cheap thrill of winning 3 and 4 but losing game 5 probably by one run due to a blown save. Of course if that happens I’ll really be hating on Binder

Prediction:  Sox win 3 straight one-run games and advance….

Less pessimistic prediction:  Tanaka has it tonight…

Yankees 1,2,4 hitters on an 0fer.  BTW Chapman says he clicked like by accident and apologized to Joe.

Is the whole pen available tonight?

Goddammit, Hanley.

I’m confident about this game.

[1] - Yes. Gleyber, a season, let’s hope, without Judge’s injury slump, without Clippard and Carter, and we’ll see what else, too.

But [3] - also yes. Worth really thinking about whether something in the construction of the team is, at least part, a cause of the problem and, if possible, introduce some sort of correction.

[13] I’m definitely not.  I hope to be pleasantly surprised though.

[9] Well, they won’t all be one-run ...

Giant 0-5 and OBJ likely out for the year…

#1 pick?

Giants 0 and 5
OBJ out for the year
Number one draft pick?

Sports haiku, people.

I don’t see how McAdoo lasts the week after this. What a waste of a year five weeks in. Yankees season about to be over, Giants season over, gonna be a loooooong wait for April.

Giants, McAdoo? Did SF get the WC. McAdoo retired, he could score.

Girardi received a warm ovation from the fans.

OK, maybe not.

God I hate Ortiz so much. I can’t believe we’re stuck with this piece of shit STILL.

Wow. They Boo Girdardi ?

That’s a real dick move, guys. Dick.

22 Jamba and Shilling the two most disgusting public figures not locked up in Maximum Security or holding elected office.

[23] FS1 pregame

It’s like playing wheel of Fortune searching for the correct channel and MLB is so douchey putting games on FS1 or MLB without at least offering local channels a chance to show the game also.

24 You’re right but booing Sevvy was way worse.

[28]
Did they really do that? That can’t be true.

[27] Yeah, it’s incredibly annoying and probably hurting them in the ratings. When I was with PBC, we were airing fights on a number of different networks and the inconsistency absolutely hurt us.

Hey, uh. Maybe we’re getting good Tanaka?

Well, that bodes well.  His splitter was NASTY in the 1st.

First postseason for the ages for Judge thus far.

29 Newsday “Severino was booed off the mound after manager Joe Girardi removed him from the loser-go-home game after just six batters.“

[34] Oh, *then*. Got it. Yes, still dumb.

That bodes less well.

30 Shitty for the fans someone in NYC who can’t afford paying $150 and up for cable to carry ESPN, TBS, FS1 and MLB should be allowed to get the game on channel 9 or 11.

After being shut out in Game 1, they now have not scored in the last 9. Feast or famine offense.

[37]
If they can’t pay $150 and up to see our team, they’re not really fans at all, are they? (Randy Levine)

Why isn’t Hixie batting 7 in front of Todd and TRO and why isn’t Birdnbatting 5?

Greg Bird: OBP machine

The Indians now challenge the HBP and it’s overturned, right? wink

Either their pressing or Carrasco’s stuff looks that good coming out of the hand.

Both Santana and Jackson hit the ball hard last inning. So far no Yankee has hit the ball hard.

[43] Carrasco’s really good.  I felt going in this would be their toughest matchup of the series.  If they can somehow pull it out, I like their chances.

43 Yankees do that a lot.

[45] They’d have a great chance to force game 5, but Bauer/Salazar/Kluber as a three-headed monster in Cleveland is a tall order.

[37] You can also pay $45 for Playstation Vue for those stations.  Or find the games online somewhere for “free”.

I don’t think they are scoring tonight

Tanaka’s sharp.  Hopefully he can match Carrasco for a while.

48 True But there are still plenty of people whose cyber knowledge doesn’t even extend to using the DVR,

I remember this team. Okay, next inning - quick, while they’re not expecting it, switch to the one that actually made the playoffs!

No hitter tonight?

Eleven scoreless after 9 scoreless in game 1

Catchable Aaron. Game over.

The crowd sounds particularly Cleveland friendly. Did they add security at the stadium to prevent flick-knives and blackjacks ? ‘cause this shit cannot stand.

Uhhh, Matt? Wild pitches wouldn’t be charged to Sanchez. They’d be charged to Tanaka. It’s ... it’s why there are two different categories.

Wow, Tanaka looks great. He just has to keep this up for 5 more innings and hope the offesne can string together a CI, HBP, BB and bases-loaded balk.

And I was hoping he’d at least get to 3-0 before striking out.

bulllllshit

Gardy, Judge and DiDi now 1/30 plus Els and Head 0/9.

Sterling Starlin.

[64] So predictable, slider away.  Really wish he was batting 9th.

They got a base hit, that means they win, right?

After losing 9-8 Friday will today be 1-0 or 2-1? That would be kind of fitting for this team this season.

Remember how Cervelli always looked like the Big Kazoo with his helmet on ?

Garder looks that way with his helmet off. Or like those alien guys on the original Star Trek “Cage” episode/pilot.

How many times has Austin Jackson ended up on a team that stuck it to the Yankees in the postseason ? Seems like always.

65 Ya think?

Sounds like Sugar.

Man, if they’re not going to hit the least they could do is take until they have 2 strikes every time.

Nine scoreless Thursday, Eight runs in 6 innings Friday, 13 scoreless since.  If things aren’t going their way they cant seem to adjust. If the opposing pitcher doesn’t have much they bomb him but if he’s on they can’t seem to be able to scratch out 2,3,4 runs.

Judge taketh away. Now if he could just giveth ...

Holy nuts.  If I was managing that would be Tanaka’s last inning - every out was a bad hanging pitch.  Keeping him in is ... unwise.

75 Who would you use?

Green.  Robertson.  Anyone.  They’ve had a day off.

That’s five pitches in a row they haven’t made out on. That’s got to be some kind of record.

Jesus. First pitch. Brutal.

I was hating on the expected bunt but then.

Beyond belief. It’s fixed. Or it’s broken.

I’ll take that. Has Judge made contact in this series yet?

I’m not sure I believe it’s beyond their power in this situation to hit into another double play.

They’ve already made him throw, you know, at least TWELVE pitches this inning.

I’d walk Didi to face Castro if I’m Carrasco.

Well, that was fun. This the old “everything possible without actually scoring” inning, right?

Hey, it’s that thing I said!

Surprised taking Carrasco out for a lefty, even if it is Miller.

I find the roar of the crowd on that popup…disturbing.

Way to make him work for it, Starlin.

That was the game

Hold them this 1/2 inning. This one. No scoring this coming half inning, ok? None.

Wait, they came into the inning tied and got four baserunners before it was out and you’re disappointed?

at least miller threw a lot of pitches.

That was like the mismatch of the century. I mean any Yankee in a close game with the bases loaded is almost a sure out but Castro vs Miller is as sure a thing as a gravity.

I got a bad feeling about this.

I mean, worse than normal.

[97]

[Monty Python Life of Brian voice:]

Worse? How could it be worse?

Can’t believe he got him there. Great outing. It’s over now, right?

Castro vs Miller could be the 5th law of thermodynamics.
