This is probably the last game of the Yankees’ season.  It was mostly fun while it lasted.

Also, as a Rutgers man, I love everything Todd Frazier does. I’ll never forget watching him play at Rutgers and heckling him about who his Comp 1 professor is.

Upstream red team!

A-Rod trolling Papi so hard in favor of the Yankees. It’s hilarious.

Isn’t A-Rod flashing his ring at Papi kind of dumb since Papi has THREE including one from the worst collapse in the history of baseball which A-Rod was a big part of?

Yeah, that part makes no sense, but hey, whatever, it’s still funny!

That wasn’t quite the Severino bounce back I predicted, but it was plenty good enough. Good win!

The reverse sweep is in play!

[296] Only took 8 pitches to get the first three outs. He was Mo-tastic.

the wrath of Kahnle!

Papi - “This is a game I’m going to sit down and watch very closely.”

A-Rod - “Well, you’re getting paid to do that, Papi.”

Ugh, remember that oppo-field shot off Tom Gordon in the 8th inning of Game 5? Even though they were still winning I knew it was over then.  I went absolutely bananas when Jeter hit his three run triple but then got kind of a queasy feeling after Trot Nixon somehow drunk stumbled into catching Matsui’s liner with the bases loaded. Like, a voice in the back of my head saying “They’ll regret not putting them away there.”

God Game 5 still kills me.

Wrath of Kain-lee doesn’t have the same ring. smile

303 Collapse, I don’t remember any collapse.

I didn’t even mention Tony Clark’s ground rule double bounce or Jason Varitek’s endless passed balls with Wakefield in that somehow didn’t result in any runs.

Alex wouldn’t want to manage… would he?

[303] It somehow works despite the 3 to 1 ring deal because ARod’s whole “choker” reputation means that his one is worth so much more because no one really even remembers he won one. (Seriously, I am surrounded by Red Sox fans that are convinced ARod never won a ring despite the fact he carried that team in October ‘09)

310—OK, then:  Long Live the Kahnle!

Gray vs Kluber. Cleveland definitely has the edge there. But otherwise these teams are either deadlocked or tilted slightly in favor of the Yankees in other strengths.

This has been a great series.

[313] They should really bring him on as a bench coach. He WANTS to help the kids and clearly LOVES being a Yankee.

[316] It’s CC not Gray.

Aww Christ… Joe’s getting choked up. W.T.F.

[314] Arod’s 2009 was absolutely the most locked in I’ve ever seen a batter. I was calling HRs after the 1st pitch of ABs and he was delivering. It was unreal.

I’ve been saying this since 1995: it is so dumb to have champagne for the division series. Now they have it for the WILD CARD game!

Division clincher? Fine.
Pennant? OK
World Series? Of course.

Those are all championships.

But ALDS? stop it.

[318] Whatever, it doesn’t change the matchup much.

Ugh. What the hell is going on now in the FS1 studio? Papi hitting BP with tennis racket. Can we have like clubhouse interviews and such? YES?

Wow Dusty Baker?

Michael Kay looking old AF

2004 game 5 was so upsetting i turned off after they didn’t even try to run in Wakefield and varitek (not his personal catcher) while it was still tied. And didn’t turn it back on until 2005. They should have fired Torre then.

308 Good one, Arod is quite the one line master.

[321] If too many champagne celebrations is the biggest problem, I’ll take it.

[325] He needs to call 1-800-GOT-JUNK

Kenny the crowd got in it was a key, nonsense except the crowd gets in it if the Yankees are winning. Flash momentum switches to the Yankees, meaningless blather.

[39] Ted, you work in Boston?  And in an office?

This is purely coming from memories of the first meetup and the rest of the crowd realizing the RLYW secret exclamations.

326. I couldn’t take any more after Game 5 either. I was living in Boston which made it worse (my girlfriend’s apartment was two blocks from Fenway Park). For Game 6 I went to the movies and watched a double feature of Team America: World Police and Friday Night Lights. As I walked out into the night outside the Loews Boston Common, I ducked into the nearest bar, Beantown Pub (where a few nights earlier I had watched the Yankees win 19-8). I saw Derek Lowe strike out Tony Jabroni Clark to end the game and knew nigh had fallen

Game 7 I stayed on the fourth floor of Mugar Library at BU reading books about Shakespeare as I prepared to give a lecture the next day. After many hours I walked down, checked a computer, saw it was a blowout, and laughed.

Worst thing ever.

I watched the game at a bar that was split pretty even. There were fights by the third. Got into a huge fight with my (terrible) girlfriend at the time because she thought I was overreacting to a game (not wrong, but ...). My buddies had to drive me to an Indian casino two hours away to sullenly play poker with a bunch of other dejected Yankee fans.

” Got into a huge fight with my (terrible) girlfriend at the time because she thought I was overreacting to a game (not wrong, but ...).”

LOL. LOL.  My girlfriend (now wife) was from the midwest and didn’t get it at all. I tried to say it was like Michigan OSU if they played 27 times in one season. Anyway, during Game 5 as I maniacally paced and growled and yelled deep deep deep into the night she told me I had to leave and that I wasn’t allowed to spend any time with her again or come over until the series was over.I actually at one point had to buy one of those OTC sleep aids because I couldn’t sleep at all and she told me I was insane.

Also we had been dating for like a month when Trot Nixon hit the walkoff off Mo in the brawl game and I punched a dent in my bedroom door right in front of her.

Nobody who wasn’t there can ever understand what Yankees/Red Sox baseball was like from around 2003-2006. People really did go mad over it.

[334] A reasonable request.

[334] Somebody should write a book about those years.
