Hardball Talk: Yankees sign Cuban outfielder Adonis Garcia for $400,000

Garcia has consistently posted huge batting averages in Cuba, but Badler notes that his raw tools aren’t considered particularly impressive and he stands just 5-foot-7 “so it’s hard for scouts to see him fitting in as a big league regular.”

Doesn’t sound like much of a prospect, but who knows?  I managed to find this scouting report.

Both prospects are described as outfielders, while some reports contend a 26-year-old Garcia possesses some-more flexibility with infield capability. Obviously, both players have girl on their side (Soler is 19 years old), so they are appealing to any team. But, their attack is what has many experts branch their heads.

Garcia has been described as “a pristine hitter,” that creates him a ideal passenger in a lineup to “drive a round to a gaps.”

Any time you can sign a player with girl on their side, you have to go for it.  I do agree that his attack has me branching my head, but I’m not a scout.

The Yankees could use an “ideal passenger in a lineup to ‘drive a round to a gaps.’” Because I know the current lineup is not doing that. Whatever that might be.

Is “branching one’s head” another form of vulning?

The Yankees are about nine pristine hitters short in their lineup.

I didn’t want to excerpt the whole scouting report, but if anyone can tell me what this is saying it’d be greatly appreciated.

However, if a Yankees wish to go a regressive trail it appears Garcia would be a right route.  With a illusive reduce cost tab and some-more expected altogether consistency, a 26-year-old could fit in and equivocate some of a flourishing heedfulness a younger Soler competence experience.

Shouldn’t that be aN illusive reduce cost tab?  I’m also not so sure that Garcia equivocates some of the flourishing heedfulness all that well.

Maybe he could teach Cano to equivocate some of that heedfulness.

[4] If I didn’t know who this article was about, I would have guessed the first sentence was about Sweaty Freddy.

We’ve got enough passengers in our lineup. We could use some drivers. Teixeira in particular is doing a great Ms. Daisy impersonation.

too bad Nunez doesn’t have infield capability.

Makes sense that Adonis has girl on his side.

I actually understood the quote in [4], which has me concerned that I may branch their heads.

Makes sense that Adonis has girl on his side

I believe this “Adonis” is Scuzzlebutt’s cousin.

Was the scouting report written in Cuban Spanish and translated into English by a poorly programmed computer?

It just keeps getting better. Per Hoch: “Mariano Rivera is being carted off the field with a right knee injury suffered during batting practice”

Yeah, MLB network had footage of him being carted off.  Looked bad.

Can we just cancel this season, and start up again next spring?

there is no god.

Well… This might delay his retirement by a year.

This is the tiniest sliver of silver lining on this sh*tty season.

Back the frigging truck up and rebuild. I am inconsolable. I want to punch something.

Hoch again: “Just saw the replay of Mariano hitting the wall. He looked like he was in a LOT of pain.”

Maybe hyperbole, but this feels like the worst Yankee news I’ve ever heard. From the early reports, it sounds like a season ender.

He reacted like he blew out the knee.  He was holding the front of the knee.  But he couldn’t stand on his own.

“Mariano Rivera preliminary diagnosis is twisted right knee - headed for MRI during game”
