8. Austin Romine (R) C .313/.368/.563
9. Ronald Torreyes (R) SS .250/.250/.417

Girardi has to be trolling at this point.  Ellsbury is hitting cleanup and DHing.  Ellsbury.  Whose offense is barely passable for a good defensive CF.  He is batting cleanup.  AND HE IS THE DH.

I get it.  Holliday is hurt, Wainwright is probably not a particularly good matchup against Chris Carter, Hicks is hot and you want to keep him in the lineup, etc.,

It is still terrible.

Interesting that Ellsbury is DH and Hicks CF, rather than vice versa.  I would think that Ells is a better fielder than Hicks.  So, I view this as Joe giving Ells 1/2 day of rest.

I think that that is absolutely what Girardi is doing.

What lineup with this team without Sanchez or Holliday and Bid lost would be appreciably better?

Another 0-4 for Birdo gets us down to what, around .030 even? Come on, let’s get this thing into the twenties.

I refuse to pay any attention to Linda’s epic last start unless he’s great tonight. Then I’ll allow myself to entertain the possibility of believing the absurd fantasy that he’s not a miserable pitcher.

[3] Judge batting cleanup obviously?

[6] Of if Judge has yet to earn his spot in Binder’s CoT, Headley, who has been hot to start the season.

Ha, according to that espn bumper before the commercial break, Molina is one of the Cardinals three best players all-time, I guess.

Too bad Gyorko’s not on the Yankees.

8 Better or worse than Musial?

Two out Mike.

No doubt

Even better!!!!

The villagers have denied Yankenstein.

I stand by my prediction that Bird’s floor is Olerud with worse defense

Let the 🐦 soar

[10] Stan was on the graphic too with Ozzie. Yanks had Babe, Joe D, and for some reason Jeter.

Babe, Gehrig, Mick and Yogi.

What about Dizzy Dean, Ducky Medwick and Rabbit Maranville?  Not
to mention Pepper Martin.

That idiot yesterday who said we should DFA Bird should be banned from this blog

Also more seriously, Rogers Fucking Hornsby.

Sorry everyone, espn has spoken. Cards top 3 all-time is Stan, Ozzie, and Molina. Also, whoever the bald guy is that normally is bad at announcing college basketball for espn is awful at announcing baseball.

Bob Gibson?

So happy for Bird. Reminds me of Jeter who broke out of his early season 2004 slump also with a first pitch homer.

I have to admit… Greg Bird’s struggles was like one of the top two stressors in my life, I think this team has caused me to lose all perspective in life. I can’t believe how relieved I am.

Ha! Idiot ESPN taking Molina and Ozzie over the other true greats. An ESPN that is bleeding viewers.

And a bunch of morons at RAB wanted to send Bird to AAA.

The Natural

A Rod is an extremely under rated twitterer

Humming 🐦  don’t fly away

Okay, Big Mike, just gotta get three outs before the rain sets in.

Is he giving up hard hits? Or more soft contact?

Besides 30 for 30 and the OJ Doc, can anyone name one worthwhile thing espn has done in the past 20 years? Also, nice play by Big Mike to start that DP.

Now to make sure nobody gets injured with the rain.

[33] In between those two. They are hits but not getting crushed. Just decent contact ending up where fielders are not. No one has really crushed anything off him. Has been putting away hitters with two strikes for the most part as well.

Hicksie is dialed in

Is Hicks finally reaching his potential or is this just a hot streak?

Imagine if Hicks became a real player.

[34] A couple years back, they gave Olbermann a show of his own for almost two years.

You know, their sequencing has really sucked tonight.

[39] Maybe they would finally DFA Smellsbury then?

[34] Ritually humiliating Keith Olberman twice.

[41] Yet the espn booth were HUGE fans of Wainwright-Molina going with the exact pitch in the exact location to Bird on the first pitch he saw after the monster bomb…

They could easily have 8 runs right now.

Wainwright seems totally farnsing cooked at this point. CC 2013-14 cooked.

[45] Imagine, if you would, a world in which Jacoby Ellsbury doesn’t hit cleanup.

Molina might want to put some of the white stuff on his chest protector onto his glove judging by the past couple days.

The coming Headley slump will be ugly.

That was a shit call-good eye Judgey

They need to cut back to that lady between every inning.

I think the commentators have a mandate to get kids more interested in baseball. They keep talking about it

On the transfer my ass

Sometimes the third best player in Cardinals history is going to get ahold of one, but that’s just fun for the kids. Kids love baseball! WE’RE JUST HAVING FUN HERE AT ESPN! WATCH ESPN, PLEASE KIDS!!

IF we have decent starters this team might be something

Don’t look now, but our rotation isn’t a total disaster yet…

Hicks just tripped over first base because of his pajama pants.

Heads-up baserunning. That’s why we pay Effsbury the big bucks.

[58] Can’t expect great baserunning out of your clean-up hitter/DH.

Come on, Birdo. I’ve got the over and I need 3 more here.

Yay for non-save situations.

Been a good couple weeks for the Romine bros.

Romine’s going to Wally Pipp Sanchez. wink

It’s ridiculous how un-Yankees they’ve been recently. Tack-on runs in the 8th?!?! What team is this?!

[62] Had to be careful not to hit it out with the bases loaded, or he’d be peeing in a cup too, and risking a lab mix-up of two samples labeled “A. Romine”.

[64] What’s un-Yankees about stat padding?

Even better than 7 in a row, great starting pitching, big Judge and Bird hits, Romine unexpectedly hot, Hicks looking like he might be a real thing, Torreyes with timely hits, and Headley (HEADLEY) hitting like someone I don’t hate, is humiliating the Team That Plays The Right Way.

Lady moron on ESPN was talking about how in ST Matheny was saying the Cards WILL play good D and WILL NOT mess up.  I guess that tells you everything you need to know about Matheny.

Also, we’re about to see Holder who will get two strikeouts, allow a broken bat dribbler single, and then Chapman will come in.

Yay win! Yay sweep! Yay Bird!

Now let’s see if our #3-5 starters - Montgomery, Severino, and Tanaka - can keep up this team’s unreal streak of decent starting pitching.

Holy hell was that satisfying.

Best OPS Hixie who? and Headley. Worst so far Bird on the rise and Gardy.

Yay 🐦ie

[68] Wow, so I guess everyone looks miniscule next to Judge.  Bird is listed as 6’ 4” (!)

Yankees now have the 3rd best pythag in baseball.

Definitely was not expecting that, even if it is only 12 games in.

Has to be a bit of forced perspective there.  Judge isn’t 8 ft tall.

If Tanaka weren’t a total bust, this team would have a shot.

Not to piss in anyone’s punch bowl, but the Cards played like the worst team in baseball. Maybe the White Sox provides more competition. Imagine the uproar around here if the Yankees did trade for Quintana. We’d be grabbing torches and storming Cashman’s house with Quintana’s slow start.

Reality will rear it’s ugly self after we play the townies.

[76] Nope, he’s AT LEAST 8 feet tall.  wink  When I see that picture I just think “Judge SMASH”.

So, if Holliday’s back is better tomorrow and he’s DH’ing instead of Carter, then does the Binder sit Bird against the lefty?

I sure don’t. Jesus Sucre, did Bird cream the ball today. He’s seeing it very well.

81 Me neither maybe Binder will just give Holliday “another day to recuperate.”
