TOR: Brett Cecil (23, LHP, 7-5, 4.39) vs. NYY: A.J. Burnett (33, RHP, 6-7, 5.25)

I’m going to be away this weekend but I’ve set up the Game Chatters to post automatically about an hour before the scheduled start time.  They should show up on the main page, but if they don’t look for links at the bottom of the most recent post.

Wait, a 3-2 slider from Joba? WAaaaa? How could have predicted that??

Great catch!

Wow, well, that was close. Does that mean its bad Joba today?

Some nice OF work today!

How does Damon play that ball…..?

How was Gardner’s NOT a check swing and that was!?!?!?  WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks umps.  Blatant swing by Bautista.  Even from the main camera view.

These umps are something else.

Screw the binder, bring in Mo.

Man oh man can Joba be infuriating.

[107] Off the wall?

Ok, sorry, computer freak out multiple posts. Some even old ones!

Pretty please, with sugar on top, throw a strike!

I suck at posting clearly. Thank God for edit

Oh bloody hell

[113, 115] How did I manage to get between your double post?

Zack-bot.

This AB scares me.

Joba “Warning Track” Chamberlain.

Joba really hasn’t done anything positive this inning.

87 I was in the park listening and that was one of the few times that did call for a bunt.

[117] Ninja skills

Joba Chamberlain = Jeff Karstens

I can’t envision an outcome here that ends with the Yankees taking a lead into the bottom of the inning.

Joba: 8 strikes, 10 balls.

Well, who didn’t see that one coming? Way to show up today Joba

I’m beginning to develop a deep and seething hatred of Joba.

How the Farns can Joba have degenerated this much over the last three years? He’s completely incompetent.

Thanks, Joba.

AJ could have used the win. Joba is garbage.

Man, Joba is a turd.

Why didn’t they send down Joba?

When did Joba become Farnsie light?

Is Girardi just stubborn, or is he just not interested in winning the game today?

So has Joba finally killed off the Joba to the pen mantra with his generalized incompetence? Now is it more of a “Joba to the minors” thing?

Maybe all that jerking him around DID screw Joba up. I mean he looked like Strasburg when he first came up. Now it’s like Kyle Farnsworth is his personal pitching coach.

WOE up next!

Really would have been good to see Mo come on once Joba put to on.

Two things that suck:  Joba and this offense.  Blame them both for this inevitable loss.

Burnett is the only one that comes out of this looking good.

Man, that’s such an infuriating way to lose a 1-0 lead in the 8th.

[135] I don’t remember hearing anybody in the media suggest Joba be sent down, but maybe they have.

Our bullpen gives me nightmares.

And Joba was quite lucky that he didn’t yield more runs that inning.

[139] Nice to see AJ with a solid performance, but to be honest, the Jays had an awful June scoring wise. A month of WOE as it were. Still, nice to see after those last five starts.

If K Long is Svengali to Cano’s Trilby does he deserve any blame for the underachievements of Arod, Tex and Grandy and general WOE

They don’t really have anyone to protect him with Aceves out.

I was hoping someone would find a way to disparage Burnett’s performance.  Considering he didn’t look like he could retire the Rockford Peaches his last several times out, this was obviously major improvement unless you’re the kind of person who lives to see the negative.

[141] Like the Jays did with Halladay? I’m for it.

How on earth does this team have the best record in baseball?

Another great inning from the Yankee corpse of an offense.

That’s 9 runs in the last 4 games, right?

And the Yankees go down 123 and so it goes. Isn’t this like six games in a row that the starters, good, bad and Ok dominated us and going back a while its even worse.  Lately it is more like WOEr

Yankees better not give up the lead this inning: they have the formidable bottom of the order coming up in the bottom of the ninth.

Cervello walk-off in the 9th. Calling it now.

[145] Granderson has had a declining OPS+ since his peak of 135 in 2007. So I’m not sure what to expect from him. Right now, in limited PA, he has a OPS+ 99 and had an OPS+ 100 in 2009.

Eek, that was a flat cutter.

So, finally Rivera is brought in, after the lead has been given up, to face luminaries like Buck, Hoff.., Lewis.

Fabulous.

From 8/6/27 to 8/11/27, the Yankees scored 14 runs in 5 games.  THAT was the birth of WOE.

[146] Mr. Snark Returns.

Just pointing out that the Jays have been dreadful offensively for some time. And I did say it was nice to see anyway.

Yeah, I wouldn’t mind them sending Joba down to completely rework him, mentally/physically/whatever. He’s just not pitching how he should, approach-wise and “stuff”-wise…

[154] Those are fascinating numbers.  I can’t recall your having mentioned them before.

[158] Don’t take it personally!  You live to see the Yankees exceed modest expectations.  I live to read your comments.

Bringing in Rivera now is also weird since the Yankees have the bottom third of their order up in the 9th.  BINDER

[160] I don’t think some posters were here yesterday to read all your witty posts, why not remind them.

[154] The beat goes on…

I’m really hating this game right now.

[162] n = 1.

Anyway, we need to find something we can agree on.  I think it might be Joba.

[163] Yeah, those declining OPS+ numbers just can’t be denied. tongue wink

[165] If they send Joba down it has to be to make him a starter. Otherwise, why bother is my take.

[166] On and on and on…

Alex Gonzalez at the bat? Let’s get Jeff Weaver.

Woah, Cito is a big dude

That’s one call that a robot might not be able to get right.

[168] Et tu Rich.

Why won’t YES go to the front side camera angle there??

Win it now.

Curtis, please.

Is Joba the new Run Fairy?

in 2004, Felix Heredia had an ERA+ of 72. Joba was at 77 before today so it’s close.

Decrepit offense.  This game could go 17 innings and they’d get 3 baserunners.
Maybe.

poop

These guys lost Halladay and the Yanks are batting under .200 against them in 4 games. Wow. I’m not optimistic about extra innings here.

Cervello walk-off in the 9th. Calling it now. Yankees suck.

“Free baseball” according to Kay.  Kind of like getting a free box of used charcoal.  Don’t really want it.

We turn Takahashi into Koufax, the worst starting pitcher in the game into a good pitcher and so it goes this is WOEest and we deserve to be looking at a sixth straight loss.  Does Long only get credit and never blame, just saying, don’t think WOE is his fault but maybe Cano would have progressed as much with another hitting coach.

[182] Why are you listening to Kay? Turn down the volume and turn on WCBS 880 and…....... oh yeah.

Nevermind.

Why do umpires call balls and strikes based on where the catcher is set up?  Ball one was strike three, inning over.

or geting punished in Indonesia and saying “can I have another please.”

there’s not an easy spot in the Yankee lineup….oh wait.

Just look at where that third pitch to Wise ended up.  But because Cervelli reached across the plate, it was called a ball.  Professionals.

Urge to kill…rising…

Edit: Whew.

Wow, Frankie really has not been great in the field…

Nice walk a guy after an 0-2 count, SB, wild throw-world champions indeed.

[188] Inexcusable, but also inexcusable by Robertson.  This is DeWayne Wise.  How cute do we need to get?

And here we go.  More free bases.

Yikes that looked a lot scarier than it was.

This is really setting up to be one of “those games.” I mean, it already really is.

OK, changing my approach now.  Walk, double, single.  Yankees win.

[188] To be honest Jonathan, the catcher does that, it usually interferes with the umps vision for a millisecond or so. I think the ump gets a break when that happens.

Robertson throws the same pitch over and over again. I thought he had a 12-6. Is Cervelli trying to lose this game?  two defensive mistakes and a critical double play ground out?  He’s got plenty of company.

This is DeWayne Wise.  How cute do we need to get?

exactly

[188] To be honest Jonathan, the catcher does that, it usually interferes with the umps vision for a millisecond or so. I think the ump gets a break when that happens.

It should no more interfere with his vision than if the catcher was directly in front of him.  He should be focused on where the ball crosses the plate, which he can see quite clearly from his position.

More lovely ground outs from the captain.  That’s like number 35 from the Yankees today.

Its like the entire team turning into Groundzilla
