OAK: Dallas Braden (26, LHP, 9-9, 3.28) vs. NYY: CC Sabathia (29, LHP, 18-5, 3.14)
The name Braden seems familiar to me for some reason.

No guarantees today. Well, one. Derek Jeter will hit at least three ground balls.

...though I guess I’ve been watning to see Alby pitch.
Boy, they just don’t value shutouts like they used to.
[194] But then it’s just that they “bought” that guy. Meanwhile, if they fail, it’s ineptitude.
/small market fan’d
So where does C.C.‘s era stand now? I think if he ends around 2.90 with 22 wins he takes the hardware.
[198] It’s hot, they’re going to win the game, and playoffs are around the corner. Would be nice to see the shutout, and would certainly help CC’s Cy Young ballot, but I’ll take the extra rest.
Yeah he’d get it, even though Felix still deserves it.
Jayson Stark just listed Felix as his #1 for the AL Cy Young. Therefore, I know that Felix is *not* the most deserving.
95 pitches and out of the game? christ
In today’s oppressive heat, 95 pitches is probably like 130 pitches.
Girardi already saw the opposing starter pulled for cramps. With a 5 run lead, why risk pushing it?
Always nice to see a Yankee game <3 hrs
[206] beat you by 8 seconds!
[204] looks like 3.02, and probably.

To amuse me!
Yay Alby! Yay Grandy! Yay Win!
Actually, in all seriousness when I first turned the game back on I thought it was Joba, which made zero sense to me. Alby, that’s ok.
Yay win!
Six of seven v Chisox and A’s unexpected and sweet
It’s so cool to hear Granderson talk - an actually cogent Yankee speaker.
This has to be the most depressing Jeter season ever.
I don’t know, 2002 was pretty depressing. That was supposed to be a peak year for him and it looked like he might be on the way out by 30. Now he’s an old SS, sitting on a HOF career, I’m not really sad, this was bound to happen eventually. Last year satisfied my hopes for Jeter’s career.
What’s depressing is how quickly most people here turned on a career Yankee one year after he was the best player on a World Series winning team.
Now that the game is over, you have time to go read my latest LA Times Sports Legends Revealed piece!

That’s a good point. Somehow it didn’t register to me it was an off-year as much. This year he just looks super-cooked, especially lately, which is depressing. He’s not at that point yet, obviously, but it brings back memories of late-career Bernie, which was also super-depressing. I get wistful when guys I remember as great start looking bad.

Haters.

What’s this in reference to?
Did the Albaladejo HBP appear intentional?
[216] That’s before my time. My personal Knick draft-related heartbreak was Scotty Stirling’s “decision” to trade the pick that became Scottie Pippen for Gerald Henderson.
Interesting story Brian-Knicks were star crossed even then. Are you a free lancer or do you work for a newspaper?
We had a few articles written about the business I work for, The Sheets, Ragozin data, a horse racing statistical service. We were written up in the New Yorker and SI and a book was published about us “The Odds Must Be Crazy.”
