House Money day, with Francisco Cervelli getting the day game after the night game off.
No guarantees today. Well, one. Derek Jeter will hit at least three ground balls.
Comments
“King of Outs”—lol, roflmao, el oh el, etc.
rilkefan, whose side are you on, Parmenides’ or Heraclitus’?
Ima play hookey from work to watch the game!
Too much Mel Hall round these parts.
I’m a little surprised it’s not a house money lineup, but maybe it’s in CC’s contract that if he’s gunning for a Cy he gets the A team.
(4) cot’s is blocked @ work but I can watch MLB.tv… Go figure.
I actually thought the Cap’n would sit today. Maybe vs. righty he would’ve.
First of 5 straight day games. Quite the anomaly, no?
This is a fine lineup against a lefty. I approve it.
[8] Yeah, but not a bad way to spend Labor Day weekend.
[2] I’m a hard-core determinist, so Parmenides all the way.
Or do you mean their prosody?
Day game =6pm start in Ireland so I approve of 5 in a row. Tonights also on tv here
I hate day games, I can’t watch them
I hate day games, I can’t watch them. How did CC look in the first? How many pitches he threw?
hey, 2 straight games with hits for Jeter. That’s a start.
Beat this loser like a drum.
This is one day I’d definitely not want to be at the stadium.
huh- why on earth did Swisher leave the game?
“The name Braden seems familiar to me for some reason.”
he used to debate Buchanan on Crossfire
please let me know if you have updates on Swisher
Thames is officially mortal again.
he used to debate Buchanan on Crossfire
Crossfire is exclusively about the 5-1-0?
Po can still hit.
Po!
It’s fun when Posado reminds us why they put up with his complete inability to catch a baseball.
Yah, Posada! He’s been on a bit of a hot streak lately, it seems.
That’s how they do things in the 7-8-7.
hah, well poor Cervelli looked like he was going to need knee replacement surgery last night, so Posada’s the man I guess.
Posada giveth, and Posada taketh away….
Jorge giveth and Jorge taketh
I was too late but it was my material from Nunez Sunday
CC endeth
CC and Mo should probably be the only ones allowed to pitch in the postseason, and maybe Swisher.
Swisher hurt? NOOOOooooooooo….
4-3 = 2
Swisher hurt?
Why did he leave the game? I joined late and am watching the A’s broadcast.
Why is the onfield delay?
The whole “get off my mound” thing was so overboard. A-Rod should probably not have run over the mound, but Braden’s reaction was so over the top. I can see if Alex had done it twice in a row in the game or something. But for Braden to completely flip out like that over something so minor was just silly. Relax dude.
damn, CC is smokin’ these fools.
[38] Oh give him a break, he’s from Stockton- probably all hepped up on meth.
Why is the onfield delay?
Geren argue call. He safe.
That lineup makes Pittsburgh look like Murderer’s Row.
Pittsburgh
You mean the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees of Pittsburgh?
That’s the one!
[36]
Not sure. I’m not watching the game. A poster at RAB said he thought Swish winced on a swing.
Update via RAB:
Swisher left the game with what appeared to be a left knee injury, but the extent is unknown. That’s the knee he fouled the ball off in Toronto last week. Hopefully it’s nothing serious.
50 walks for Cano?!?!
Cano’s improved plate discipline continues…
Just noticed it’s know being reported that it was a left knee injury. The one he fouled the ball off of against the Toronto Bautistas.
Edit: Rob beat me to it. So, I will just note that when Braden picks you off, you should probably make sure your route to the dugout includes his mound.
So much for other kinds of discipline…
Scary.
damn, Braden’s looking a lot better than the 5-straight loser we saw post-Perfecto.
- Marcus Thames has been dropped by 8,323,239,430,438,509 teams.
You mean the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees of Pittsburgh?
Hey! Stop putting SWB down!
[52] I don’t know. That beard is a crime in 17 states.
Regression’s a cold, heartless bitch.
[55] he looks like every other d-bag from the Central Valley. I live in Oakland and even people here make fun of his redneck ass. That said, he seems to be handling the Bombers pretty well.
A 4-pitch walk, CC? Really?
[58] Just setting up the DP. CC is good.
Suzie:Swisher stiffness in left knee
Suzie: bebop stiffness in ...
nah, nevermind.
Of course Thames has regressed. He did the moment I scooped him up for my fantasy playoff run.
Knees are important and stuff.
So Jon were you singing Thames is on my side, yes it is
Time to put Berkman back in the lineup, please.
And would it kill A-Rod to get back?
Damn that ARod, selfishly injuring himself…
![]()
Thames > Berkman vs LHP. This is his role. He just isn’t having a good game. It happens.
CC is good and stuff.
Game 1 ALDS lineup
SS-Jeter
RF-Swisher
1B-Teixeira
3B-ARod
2B-Cano
DH-Berkman
C-Posada
CF-Granderson
LF-Gardner
Bench-Thames, Nunez, Kearns, Cervelli
Anything else is madness. If it’s a tough lefty, then maybe Gardner to CF and Thames to Left. Maybe.

What would an A’s house money lineup look like? Do I want to know?
Well, this one is moving along briskly.
Uh, do you really think Thames>Berkman vs. lefties? Really? Berkman is one of the best hitters in baseball over the past decade. I’d say they’re close but I’d rather have Thames as the off the bench guy.
Is Jeter OK?
Has CC been very efficient (time and # of pitches) or is that just my impression from gameday?
Braden may be suffering from the curse of hitting the Captain.
[68] I dread the thought of Thames playing the field in the playoffs. Unless it’s the clinching game of a series with a 10-run lead and injuries have forced Girardi’s hand.
I’m surprised Braden hasn’t gotten the ‘football mentality’ tag yet.
Kearns in left against lefties? Wouldn’t mind that
And would it kill A-Rod to get back?
It would kill the team.
/better without him
[75] In that scenario I hope they hilariously put him somewhere on the infield again. Maybe SS or C this time.
Wha happned? Braden was cruising? Injury
[76] Leaving games due to injury isn’t going to garner him that label anytime soon.
WJ,
Berkman WAS one of the best hitters in baseball. Since then he’s aged and had a knee injury.
Three-year splits vs LHP:
Berkman - .258/.337/.436
Thames - .263/.326/.541
man, the stadium is EMPTY. Can’t say I blame the people. too too hot
Admittedly, I was down on Marcus earlier in the year. I may have even used the letters D F and A in a post about him…
1-3-6 = 2
ugh, Jeter!! wtf
Berkman vs lefties(career): .365/.415/.780
Thames vs lefties(career): .339/.518/.858
If you weight OBP a little more than SLG, they come out very close. Given that they’re both DH’s, I really don’t care who’s in the lineup against lefties.
Edit: Beaten to it.
Baserunning has not been a strength today.
Jeter has nothing this year
I may have even used the letters D F and A in a post about him…
Me too. “Dude, Thames is Fucking Awesome!”
Granderson!
Is that allowed?
Speaking of hitting lefties, Kevin Long is a genius!
i hate Jeter
Granderson!!!!
Since when is Granderson allowed to hit HR off LHP?
man, the stadium is EMPTY. Can’t say I blame the people. too too hot
TV shots may be deceiving. In this heat, I bet a ton of people are up in the shade of the concourse rather than their seats. I would, at least every couple innings or so to keep from baking.
[83] Admittedly, so were many of us, but that was when Binder insisted on playing Thames in LF.
I think this has been the longest half-inning so far?
I don’t think I’ve heard Sterling’s HR call for Granderson before. It’s atrocious. The Grandyman can? Really?
Jeter has only 1 GB today. I blame Braden for not providing him with the opportunity.
