Athletics (65-66) @ Yankees (82-50), Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 7:05pm **Game Chatter**
OAK: Brett Anderson (22, LHP, 3-5, 3.32) vs. NYY: A.J. Burnett (33, RHP, 9-12, 5.17)
Although last night’s guarantee ran into a hiccup, I am going to make three lead pipe cinch guarantees tonight. If any of these don’t happen, I’ll refund your money.
- Toronto will roll over for Tampa Bay
- The Red Sox will destroy Baltimore
- Brett Anderson will pitch extremely well tonight
- A.J. Burnett will pitch horrendously tonight
Ok, that’s four guarantees instead of three, but I’m sticking with them.
Comments

I fearlessly predict that AJ will throw more than 10 pitches tonight.
How many runs will AJ give up in the first inning? 1, 2, 3 or 7?

[2] I’ll take the over.
Since when is AJ allowed to return to the dugout after the first inning with a 0 on the scoreboard?

[4] The A’s will be playing the rest of this game under protest.
How many runs will AJ give up in the first inning? 1, 2, 3 or 7?
I’m going to say 0.
But he will give up infinite runs in the second.
Jeter off the schneid.
Zone to Swisher is wacky per GD. AJ also got a gift strike earlier.
[7] Is that a performance-disenhancing drug?
Another ground ball by Jeter. Big whoop.
Another fly ball by Teixeira. Big whoop.
Teix OPSing 3.000 in September. He could get back up to his career OPS yet…

Could this be a siting of the increasingly rare extremely effective AJ, or is it just a molting phase?
Ok, Kearns, you’re keeping Gardner out of the lineup, I expect you to play well.
What’s going on around here? I thought this was the thread where I complained about how terrible AJ is.
[11] ...and his season OPS+ now above his career average.
What’s going on around here? I thought this was the thread where I complained about how terrible AJ is.
I just closed the window where I was following the game, so I have to assume the game is not over yet.
Not for nothing, but this Nunez kid looks like the heir apparent to Jeter.
I guess Jeter is tired of reading on RLYW about how we don’t think he’s worth 4/80.
WAG: Waldling are talking about Cap’s intangibles and hustle made that happen.
The positive outcomes are going to hide the fact that both of Jeter’s PA so far have resulted in ground balls, one medium, one soft.
Four guarantees for the price of three. That’s what keeps us coming back to RLYW.
What is sweeter than “In play, run(s)”?
Perhaps this is only the second worst offense ever.
“In play, out(s)” with Mo on the mound.
Man, Lester fell off a cliff in the last month.
Looks like maybe all AJ needed was a start against a team that can’t hit.
[17] Nuñez has the DP ability.
Just saw this in Fabian’s away message.
BTF Francouer Chart
Here we go.
[26] Nope.
At least he made it to the 4th. That’s an improvement.
check out the Francoeur/Gardner gfx here:

At least he made it to the 4th. That’s an improvement.
Any scenario that shows IP > R is an improvement.
AJ going for death by a thousand cuts, rather than his usual meltdown.
[32] Came up in a recent thread, nobody had much to say about it as I recall. He doesn’t understand what he’s plotting, incidentally.
Trying to keep blood from boiling…
Why not try to give away a 4-0 in 2 innings. Makes perfect sense.
It’s hard to strike out six guys in five innings while also completely fucking sucking.
AJ Burnett: Finding new ways to suck each and every start!
This game is still winnable….
Quality start. Maybe even ok if he goes another inning.
Quality start.
Then again, quality of opposition. Still, you wouldn’t know it by this crowd.
He doesn’t understand what he’s plotting, incidentally.
For a minute there, I thought you were referring to the other Francouer plot and was thinking that you’re just no fun at all.
Oh I totally feel comfortable with a one run lead and Joba in.
Hmm. Is Joba’s velocity somewhat less terrible than usual lately?
Just walked in. I’ve completely missed both the AJ scuffle and the dreaded Joba appearance, and the Yankees are still ahead. God loves me best.
Nice job by Graeme Lloyd there.
So Joba faced 5 hitters, struck out 1, gave up two hits, and retired other 2, threw 9 pitches, 8 of them strikes.
I think that was a decent outing, although it doesn’t help the ugly high WHIP or the BABiP, I suppose.
How do you walk a guy with a .275 OBP?
Wood is good.
The destruction of Baltimore is underway. As is the Blue Jay rollover.
What the fuck is wrong with Posado ?
One would think that Posada would be used to umpires sucking.
Ball three.
um…who catches now?
EDIT: I see Moello is here.
Moeller.
No, Kay, that was not a “hot shot” up the middle.
Did they make a 40 man move for him?
Does Mo need a catcher, technically?
First game up, catching Mo to preserve a win. Don’t screw it up.
Damn Jeter…it is getting harder and harder to be your resident fanboy defender.
Posada was not smart, was he?
Did they make a 40 man move for him?
Marte to 60-day DL.
Damn Jeter…it is getting harder and harder to be your resident fanboy defender.
I dunno, you could try “He looked safe to me” or something.
Posada was not smart, was he?
Pitch was a foot outside.
Mo could probably still play SS…or 3B…
Mo is so awesome. That was a great spear.
The Orioles really suck.
[62] The ump had to call three pitches during that at-bat. He blew two of them, horribly. But he gave Po a ball he didn’t deserve, then gave him a strike he didn’t deserve.
Yeah, Po was stupid about it.
One strike away from the Mo-Mo.
Is Moeller a better defensive catcher? How not? So it was a good move to force Girardi’s hand.
[68] Posada is a better defensive catcher than half the position players on the team.
Tying run on third for the Jays…
In the ninth with 1 out

[69] I wouldn’t go that far. Maybe better than about 30%.
2 outs still 2-1 for Rays. With a man on third
It doesn’t matter one bit how far outside. Who knows better than Po that if you argue balls and strikes, you risk getting thrown out? Not smart.
Sweeeeeeet.
Sole posession !
Yay Win !
Yay Mo !
Other teams should get to pick which 3 batters to send up there to face Mo, like in “Troy.”
[74] Exactly.
My suspicion is that Moeller was always going to come in to catch the ninth, so it didn’t matter if Posada got tossed or not.
[79] According to Kay (I know, I know) Moello had to run in from the bullpen.
Also, is tomorrow still considered a home game depite having to cede the disputed territory of Bradonia ?
Also, is tomorrow still considered a home game depite having to cede the disputed territory of Bradonia ?
Yes, it is a home game, BUT CC is pitching on the road.
If any of these don’t happen, I’ll refund your money.
...
- A.J. Burnett will pitch horrendously tonight
Since I never paid anyway, how about we just say we’re square?
