The good news is that Charlie Morton is no Dallas Keuchel or Justin Verlander.  The bad news is CC Sabathia is no Masahiro Tanaka or Luis Severino.  The fact that the Yankees are even in the ALCS is cool, but it would be even cooler if they won a game.

The good news is the last Yankee pitcher to win an ALCS game was ALSO CC. The bad news is the last Yankee pitcher to win an ALCS game before CC was Dustin Moseley. If someone “gets hurt” is Moseley available as a roster replacement? (Though CC did start that game. So maybe Jaime Garcia can be 2017 Dustin Moseley.)

[1] Really?!?

I don’t know if CC will pitch long enough to be able to get a win, but if they do win, and CC’s pitching makes that possible,  who cares about technicalities?

The Moseley win was also Mo’s final postseason save, which is kind of depressing as heck when you think about it. Mo’s final postseason save happened SEVEN YEARS AGO?

If we get swept I know my townie friends will be like, “You did worse than us” so please win a game

I don’t love this pitching matchup, but as I said before ALDS game 5 ... it’s baseball.

[1]  You’re pulling our legs.  Dustin Moseley isn’t a real person.

[6] CC to Joba to Moseley to Kerry Wood to Mo.

I think I had blocked “Kerry Wood, Yankee” out of my brain.

He was really, really good, too. Which was so odd. Then he went right back to the Cubs for the rest of his career, so he never had a chance to make a real name for himself here.

[7] I still remember that eighth inning rally, fun game. Marcus Thames with the game winner!

[8]  I remember.  Was hoping he’d stay but I think it was always clear he really wanted to be in Chicago.

I remember basically nothing about the ‘09 ALCS. I remember a whole lot of ‘10 and ‘12 though.

Arod doesn’t like Judge hitting 2nd.

[12] He’s still bitter about Torre moving him to 8th vs the Tigers.  And that was a moronic decision.

[12] Everybody knows that Bird should be third.

[12] Some saber dude a long time ago that Arod probably never read thought that 2nd was a good spot for a great hitter

Funny how avoiding the fastball to Altuve works better.

And so it goes Aaron.

This would be a good time for Sanchez to

oh, for the sake of fucks !

Not the greatest on the basepaths this series.

You can’t be serious, fuck this team playing like a bunch of boobs (no not that deinition)

Shit, the Astros with a good Verlander all year would have been something like a 106-win team….

You can’t ask for more than Sabathia’s done this postseason.  Compared to a couple years ago it’s like he’s a completely new pitcher.

But are they going to score tonight?

[23] Based on the 1st two games, I’d say they’re good for at least one run.

How ya like Frazier now?

I always liked TF

Two cheapies and an YS cheapie, I’ll take it. Todd going oppo?

Re-sign this guy and trade Headley, PLEASE.

[26] Heh, I just emailed the same thing to my brother. smile

28 Fine IF they can trade Headley.

Why waste one of two challenges to maybe get Headley to first?

Edit - with two outs and TPBG already K’d against this pitcher.

[31] I think Joe is gunshy about NOT challenging now.  And hey, even being wrong you’ve got another one.

oh, cool. shitty HP ump. I like how the ALCS doesn’t feature the best umps.

oh FFS, Ken, if the game was won in the “clubhouse,” they could have me playing 1B and win the WS every year.

CC pitching like a vintage Dustin Moseley.

Starlin Castro be what a bad 2B look like when people like my late grandfather think they’re “slick”

[34] I mean ... have you considered that Ken thinks you’re a clubhouse cancer?

This is going to be bad.

You’re not crazy about seeing Altuve in this spot…

All with 2 outs.  Come on CC.

Two cutters to Correa in that spot. CC has cajones!

I know the Astros are required to have nine guys in the lineup, so I don’t understand how Altuve is always up.

I’m glad he didn’t give Altuve anything.  He’s really the guy I most think can kill them.

Like, just by accident Judge should’ve made contact on something low and away by now, right?

The spirit of the BattleCat lives on in CC!

Kind of hoping if Tanaka opts out they just re-up CC for two years and let some other team give Tanaka a 7 year deal, two of which are almost guaranteed to be lost to the inevitable TJS. (Plus, sign Otani of course)

I didn’t think they were allowed to call a ball at the knees on Judge.

[50]  I wondered why you wrote “ducking”...

The girl with the pigtails in the MLB commercial is great. She belongs in a Coen brothers film.

Nice interview Fox! “This is a fun team.” GOOD GOD

I picture Joe Buck standing at Altuve’s locker, cartoonishly large heart-shaped box of candy behind his back and puppy-dog look on his face.

Hey, that’s what Judge should have done in Game 2!

51 - Goddamned autocorrect on my phone is ducking why.

Maybin played that pretty poorly.

Castro hits a jack here.

Sure would be nice to knock Morton out and give the Houston bullpen some work. Morton don’t look good.

Well, I was close.

wait, does John Smoltz really think that Charlie looks good?

No, Joe Buck, that was NOT a good job by Castro to lay off the pitch in the LH batter’s box.  That was a basic job requirement.

[58] Heh, one of these times you’ll be right.  Nah, just kidding, Castro sucks.

does it occur to Smoltz that sometimes those 87 MPH pitches at the top of the zone are just…gettin’ missed, and not evidence of Charlie fuckin’ Morton’s mastery?

seriously, Morton is missing his spots by feet. Maybe it’s the mind meld. You will not hit this straight fastball right down the pipe because I don’t mean to throw it there.

Castro has so many good ABs.. never.

Damn that looked good off the bat.

Another MASTERFUL pitch by Morton that should have been sent to the motherfucking moon. Nice work, Charlie.

Apparently Frazier grew up in New Jersey.

I like how these guys bitch about DNYS playing disgracefully small until balls that should be 10 rows deep hang up and die on the track.

This amazing pitcher with -1 career WAR, who resurrected his career with a 109 ERA+ season. Charlie Bones gonna make some money, because he can PITCH.

But he’s gotta tell his catcher that if the C drops the strike, it will be called a ball.

[70] You sure? I mean, maybe Atlantic City or Newark or something. Big places. Easy to get lost.

If Hixie were hitting in front of Flailin’ Starlin’ he might’ve got the runner to 3rd which might’ve mattered.

[73]  Nope, in an idyllic hamlet called Toms River.  Ha!  They were too poor to put an apostrophe in.  But they were happy.

prob time to PH. When a man tries to get on base with a phantom HBP, he should be sent to cold storage.

I would have thought Mr. Choo Choo’s pitch count would be higher.

hard to know what pitch Chase is looking for. He wants to swing at the slow breaking stuff inside. And then he can’t catch the fastball over the plate. Time for the glue factory, boy.

[75] You SURE? This is the first I’m hearing about it.

Headley. Blind squirrel time.

Agree with UJD that TF turned the signs from - to + over the past month or so.

Disagree, though, with UJD - having just reviewed the play, Judge was nowhere catching that ball, whatever he might have done with his arms.

CHASE WITH THE DRIBBLE BALL! Cue John Smoltz some shit about how Charles Bones made a beautiful pitch but life ain’t fair

[79]  Absolute truth.  And if you would be so kind they would like to borrow that apostrophe.

DH 1-29, they were due.

Ah, Joe Buck did that sly thing where he didn’t know Will Harris’s first name so he had to wait for the intern to slip him a note.

Come on Judge, it’s time to shine!

[86] Are there no poor houses?

I could really go for lots o’ runs about now.

Judge K’s, how many pitches will it take?

[90]  Tiny Todd would have been crippled for life if not for the intervention of a kindly old gentleman.  Which is why it’s such a thrill for him to be playing in front of family at Yankee Stadium.

Yay passed ball / wild pitch.

Since its inception in 1890, the U.S. Board on Geographic Names has discouraged the use of the possessive form—the genitive apostrophe and the “s”. The possessive form using an “s” is allowed, but the apostrophe is almost always removed. The Board’s archives contain no indication of the reason for this policy.

I’m surprised Harris is giving him anything close with a bag open and two outs.

Yay no Judge K!

HR better!!!

More runs!

Alrighty
