Angels (64-52) @ Yankees (69-45), Wednesday, August 10, 2011, 7:05pm
LAA: (2011, RHP, 0-0, undef) vs. NYY: Ivan Nova (24, RHP, 10-4, 3.81)
The Angels’ dominance over the Yankees has gotten so comical that they’re starting an unnamed pitcher who’s 2011 years old tonight. Congratulations to the unnamed pitcher on his first career start and on being the first pitcher to throw a perfect game in his MLB debut. At 2011 years of age, he’s not likely to have a long career, but at least it’ll be a memorable one.

And I thought our C/DH prospect was the only 2011-year-old still in the minor leagues.
Or did we trade Him, and the Angels resurrect Him as a pitcher?
Taking advantage of children. I hope you’re proud of yourselves.
Whore Hey!
Welcome to the bigs, rook.
Maybe this pitcher isn’t ready for primetime.
THis is horrible. Where are Richards’ parents? How can they be allowing this to happen?
Yikes. And mark first pitch swinging. Sigh.
[7] Although I see that it’s actually not true by checking the numbers, I feel like every time I look up Teix is failing to do something.
[8] It felt like it. So damn your numbers.
Good at D though.
Love it.
Nice throw by Martin.
Looks like the offense is done for the night. Hopefully Nova can keep the Angels scoreless.
No Ks through three, does that mean Nova stinks again?
[13] I blame you for this jinx.
No Ks through four, does that mean Nova stinks again?
[16] A lot of weak contact, however. I think he looks really good.
[14] yep, I haven’t seen that slidery looking pitch tonight though. Then again I haven’t been paying real close attention.
How would you describe that look perpetually on Scotia’s face that ticks me off? Dumbshit indignation?
Chavez!
Nova’s thrown some slutters, but hasn’t been able to locate any of them that I’ve noticed. I’m fine with his good Wang impersonation though.
<3 Chavez.
Wow, what a great catch by Bourjos.
Quite a catch by Bourjos, owner of the means of production.
I know we are leading 5-0, but when you have a runner on 2d with nobody out, you should cash that in.
[19] I have a soft spot fo Sosh, so I’d call it severe indigestion. I mean, I wouldn’t be eating right if I were managing a baseball team.
Mathis is on drugs. I don’t mean steroids.
Apparently Mathis is in there for his bat, because he looks like crap this inning defensively.
He was fucking safe.
Gardner was robbed…
Thank God we have the human element to fuck up easy calls.
Is Nunez improving defensively?
Nunez has made two good plays including strong, accurate throws. What is this.
That, however, is not a good Wang impersonation.
[33] It’s a good Wang 2009 impersonation.
Grandy!
Granderson likes this kid.
I always liked the Granderson trade.
Honey Batter don’t give a shit.
So how will the bullpen roll over today?
[39] With pizzazz.
See if Cano can fire up the ol’ Cyclotron.
Edit: apparently not. Still a homer and a single short.
Suck on that Skippy McGritty.
According to FIP, Nova’s given up four runs so far. Boo.
If Joel Pineiro was a Yankee starter he’d still be in the rotation, right?
I’m assuming (and hoping) that there’s no way in hell Nova will be dropped from the rotation.
Quite the thrilling friendly tonight between Germany and Brasil. Scoreless through 35:00
[43] I don’t get that. I haven’t watched too closely but it has seemed to me that most of the balls have been hit on the ground.
[46] Nazis v. Nazi emigrants
[46] The game was played this afternoon. Won’t spoil the result for you.
[44] Burnett ERA+: 91
Pinata ERA+: 70
[48] But no Nazguls on either side.
[48] Are you mistaking Brazil and Argentina? Only Nazi ever know to come live here was Menguele, and even he only moved from Argentina after we got Eichman. There is more folclore from the book of Ira Levin than actual Nazi imigration, the German community is very small.
[43] I don’t get that. I haven’t watched too closely but it has seemed to me that most of the balls have been hit on the ground.
FIP don’t care. FIP cares about HRs (1), BBs (1) and Ks (0).
[52] According to a couple ex-wives and one teenage daughter, I’m a priori wrong. So I’m probably wrong about this subject too. Yes I did have Mengele and Eichmann in mind.
FIP don’t give a shit.
Lox and a shmear

[52] He’s rather correct. The Argentinians took their anti-communist and torture lessons from the US and former Nazis. Wonderful people them Argentinian Fascists. Wonderful people.
Nova got squeezed on “Ball” 3.
By the way, my wife and I just had another failed IVF. Time to get another dog!
Yes, but the game was Germany and Brazil, not Germany and Argentina. Or are you saying I’m correct?

[60] I’m confused. AJ sucks. There, that’s better.
Also, you’re correct. Go history degree, go!
[59] Sorry to hear that WJ. Have you been trying for long? My sister in Law went through this abd it was maddening, but she eventually got her girl.
You can have one of my kids, WJ. I’ve got a bunch of them. None of them has been in jail yet.
This is going to shit in a hurry
The soccer game was a good one (Brazil and Argentina). For Ivy’s birthday, she is going to sleep very early. No US-Mexico game for her. Zzzzz.
Nice to see Girardi on the ball…
Nova pulling a Burnett.
Sorry to hear it WJ, though I would love to get another dog…
USA is playing Mexico in a friendly? Seems kind of pointless after the Gold Cup final.
[67] Almost. Burnett has this special powers were he can read Girardi’s mind and know which one will be his last batter. Then he gives up a HR to the batter, not a puny walk.
I’d love to raise Mel Hall, Jr. Can he hit?
Very very nice!!

Soriano, my favorite!

SG, are you on your knees?
Soriano is earning his paycheck!
(at least some small part of it)
[62]About 2 years trying naturally, then surgery for the wife, then six months going through IVF now. Hurrah. We’re broke.
KNEEL BITCHES!
Who is worser, Swamp Turkey or John Lackeyluster?
Mathis is such a bad hitter, physics hates him.
But our Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are awesome.
What ever happened to that galloping behemoth smiley? The Yankees will never win a world series until we get them and the dancing bananas back.
[71] Depends which Mel Jr. you mean.
Can any of you find a better use for 12 million dollars than finding a pitcher who can get out Peter Bourjos and Jeff Mathis?
Several years ago Mel Hall, then a New York Yankee, kept two cougars from Florida as pets at his house in Connecticut until state and federal wildlife officials confiscated them and charged the outfielder with possession of potentially dangerous animals and with importing wild animals without a permit. “They loved me, followed me around, slept on me,” Hall said wistfully after the cougars had been removed.
Oh Mel.
Can any of you find a better use for 12 million dollars than finding a pitcher who can get out Peter Bourjos and Jeff Mathis?
How about a platoon DH who can’t hit?
Grando Calrissian
[84] That’s the best thing ever.
[76] Her process lasted about 3 years total and a small house. Hope you get it soon.
Damn, nice opposite field shot.
Your home run derby champ
Wolf!
Man, if he doesn’t get the single, that is going to be embarrassing.
That was an awesome opposite field blast by Robbie.
Cuz they took those cougars away is why I’m in the position that I’m in today.
With no cougars around, Mel tragically turned to young women.
Robbie needs to lay down a nice bunt next time up.
[95] That’s right. Soon after the confiscation of said cougars, Hall “dated a 16-year-old, drove her to school in flashy cars and even attended her prom.”

I don’t know what the “numbers” say, but aside from the corpse of Mariano*, the Yankees bullpen is as good as I’ve seen it since the days of Nelson and Stanton.
*a joke
Anyone seen this or commented on this before?

the Yankees bullpen is as good as I’ve seen it since the days of Nelson and Stanton.
The big thing this year is they’ve gotten very little subpar performance. They’ve almost always had a couple of people you’d never want to see pitching, but I feel comfortable with everyone other there now, although I’d rather not see Luis Ayala and Hector Noesi in extremely crucial situations. And I’m fully on-board the Boone Logan bandwagon.
I see Nova’s taken a step back in terms of his recent enhanced strikeoutiness.
