We know that the Spiders are an historically awful team, given that they lose about seven of every eight games.  What does that say for Frank “Ivan” Bates, who has lost 18 of the 19 games he’s started?

I think Bates nickname was “Mister”.

[1] Had he been on the Mets in the ‘80s, it would have been “jail.”

I note with interest that SG uses “an” before “historically.”

CC with elbow soreness.  That’s good to hear.

CC may miss start. This team is losing their best players to injuries. Every month, a different player gets injured, this is as frustrating as it gets.

And they can downplay the injury, but an elbow injury is never a minor thing for a pitcher.

congrats to Laffey for his first perfect game

Don’t be so sure. He might get bored and start throwing with his right hand, letting Chavez pinch hit.

an infield hit!

congrats to Laffey on his complete game one-hit shutout

Nova’s breaking ball is on today.

I think all stadiums should be disgraceful.

Cano just missed that

Dare I ask what the Serling call was?

McGehee! DFA while your ahead!

Stewarto!

The look-in ended… but the sound keeps going, I now have the radio feed for free.
Cool.

WTF is wrong with this team? This 2 out rallies are weird

Did Michael Kay finally annoy Ken Singleton to the point where they can no longer be in the same room?  I don’t think there’s been a game this year where they’ve covered it together.

How about the ineffective baseruining? They were so good at it until recently!

Points for Kenny if that is the case…I just assumed Kay was not allowed in Canada (which is points for Canada if THAT is the case…).

Nova being Nova

Cano is one walk away from matching his total from last season.

[25] So that means he’s two away from doubling it?

Jeter is only two doubles away from matching his total from last season

[24] By which you mean - 3 baserunners, 0 walks and 7 SOs in 5 innings?

Smart move walking somebody with nobody on michael I don’t think so

Just heard the the RS 3b has a broken wrist following a hbp.  Wonder if the hitters should start wearing gauntlets.  Make them out of articulated kevlar or something.

[30] I was musing to myself on this the other day, whether it might be possible to fashion some sort of hitting glove like a hockey glove and still function for a hitter.

Granderson.

Nova has been lights out today, sure helps that he is facing the worst lineup in the AL. But all in all he has good stuff, good command and good control so far.

[31] It still annoys me that they banned the sort of elbow guard that Bonds wore. I understand the idea that intentionally being HBP is a problematic strategy, but just train the umpires to be more aggressive (ie, do it at all) calling the rule that requires batters to move out of the way. But competent umping is a point of contention with the umpire union apparently, so whatever.

[34] Yeah, absolutely stupid. That’s like banning hip and rib pads for quarterbacks to keep them from flopping to attract roughing calls.

Edit: And to remove the judgement, HBP should only apply if the batter is hit in a location inside the batters box. Lean over the plate, you’re asking to get hit. Stay in the box, you only hate to retreat into the box. For that matter, a pitch into the batters box and you want the base, go ahead and lean into it.

McGehee is not a 3rd baseman Joe. He should have been pulled against the RHP in the 8th. Chavez can play a couple of innings on turf

I don’t know that anyone could make a better throw than that. McGeheeheeie-ey just couldn’t get to the bag - cought it 2 feet behind the bag on the runner side. Great throw by Stewie.

Don’t worry…in 3 weeks it can be Nun-E there instead.  Lineup aside, props to Nova for turning it around today.  I won’t lie, I’m drinking anyway (Belgian-style beer) but I am ENJOYING it more with the way things are going the last few days.

Nix for Nunez turned the season around.

I would strongly prefer they not trust Nun-E5 with anything more critical than passes in the parking lots. In fact, I would go so far as to make that a recommendation. A warning even.

Robertson should start the 9th. He threw one pitch.

Speaking of 3B, whatever happened to Pena, did he sign on with another team, or just go back to AAA?

TOR radio guys busily downplaying Nova’s performance and throwing the Jays rookies under the bus.

[43] RAB says he cleared waivers and went to the minors.

By the way, I’m kneeling.

UNTUCK THAT SHIRT BABY

OK, that’s going to make it even harder for them to sweep us.

Yay Win ! Yay eh…Soriano ?

[45] Thanks.  Is this the point where we KNEEL?  (I still don’t trust him, as good as he has been since taking over).

Win = good

Girardi has clubhouse door closed.  Nobody knows why.  Some speculation it might relate to CC which can’t be good.

Oh, please no. No more news, let alone bad news.

[50] I really don’t think CC is hurt badly. There were some camera shots
of him, sitting happily in the dugout.

[52] That’s all the opiates to mask the pain.

CC on the 15-day DL.

Well then….time for more beers….

[56] Looks like I picked the wrong day to stop drinking.

CC Sabathia is going on the 15-day disabled list with soreness in his left elbow. The injury first popped up after last week’s start against the Mariners, and an MRI showed no structural problem.

ah, sheee-it.
so the MRI was between the start before last and the most recent start?
anybody else than CC I’d assume season-ending….

So back to the rotation with David Phelps?  Would’ve been nice if they’d stretched him out and kept him stretched out as a starter.

I blame myself, I’m watching The Town right now.  Actually no….I blame the Mayans.  Derek Lowe with the Yankees is clearly a sign of the imminent end times.  Poop - I need more beer…
